Why so many great hardware shops in ED?

Agree - they are some of the more useful shops on the Lane. I use all of them on a regular basis.

Count the Curry Houses on the Lane - there are many more than three (not that its a bad thing).

If only there were only three Real Estate Agents !

So a shop the majority of residents want and use. Unlike many of the others on LL.

He makes money supplying want people want, it not they would go bust. This shop has been there since the begining of time.

Agree! They're great! I also like Labro Tools and Gas on Nunhead Lane.

Dulwich DIY!!! One of the best shops ever. No matter how vague my description they never look amused and have been known to search around in odd boxes when I've wanted somthing esoteric - in this instance an Imperial bolt for a Victorian door knocker.

3 DIY shops and 14 estate agents. I love Dulwich DIY as they are friendly and helpful and always seem to have what I need, however obscure and being described as a thingy to do such and such.

I also like the one that does all the household stuff, just down from the police station. Recently someone posted on here desperately asking if anyone had any John Lewis baby muslins in blue (v EDF) as their child was obviously very attached to them and there were some in this shop all the time. It must have a name but can't remember seeing it.

Between them all you can sort most normal jobs, all day Sunday would probably be too much to ask. Number of times it's 1pm+ and you need just one more coach bolt / varnish / filler.

We're blessed with what we've got. DON'T question it !

I'd rather have more estate agents - there should be at least 28 of them in LL. They are the most selfless members of the community and do more for the good of mankind (and womankind) than all the hardware shops and hospitals put together.

the household goods shop is Farmer's. They have lots of fab stuff.

Without the fabulous Dulwich DIY and A J Farmers this place would be a lot worse off. These are the true small independent businesses we should be supporting not pop up boutique places selling pointless tat, here one day gone the next.

Sorry for not mentioning every single DIY shop on here (whether I've used it or not), but I'm quite loyal to the shops I use locally. But yes, you're right, I'm sure there are some other equally great independent DIY shops around here too.

The only shops I use on the main drag of Lordship Lane on a regular basis are Farmers, Greetings, Dulwich DIY, the Co-Op, Dulwich Caff and Mon Petit Chou. I've been in to most of the other shops, bars and restaurants on LL, but only infrequently. And there's actually a surprising number I've never set foot in, even after 17 years in the neighbourhood.
