Indeed, the woods are fantastic. Absolutely beautiful and so peaceful you forget you're in the middle of London. I walked through them a couple of Sundays back with a mate and his dog and then had a couple of pints in the Woodhouse and then walked back through them again. Used to walk through the tunnel as a kid with my dad and big sister. Happy days.

Also sitting outside the Dog on a summer's day watching the world go by whilst sinking a few pints is good for the soul.

Mates brother was stopped by a pair of bobbys the other week when he was walking into the woods to mess around with his new two grands worth of full frame Nikon dangling around his neck as they thought he was going to take photos of virile young men coupling as apparently the woods have been a very popular cruising spot for some time now. Not sure why they stopped him though, unless it was a privacy thing?

Seeing as the Magdala is going to close or something, perhaps ED will get the decent gay bar it deserves, those woods must get right chilly in the winter!

How can it be a privacy thing? Why would the coppers be protecting outdoor sex fiends? That indeed would be political correctness gone mad!

Anyway, I used to love walking to the top of Barry Road to ensure I got the back left hand seat on the 12 to go into town. It had much more leg room than the others. The bendy has nothing on the Routemaster.

I also remember the heavy snow in 2003, and could see it getting thicker and stickier as the 176 mounted the hill to Dulwich Library. The difference in temperature from the Goose Green end to the Upper East Side (I know, some people hate the term) is quite marked.

Ooh, a ride on the back seat at the top of the 12, or on the front bottom seat from The Plough to Notting Hill Gate was a wonderful journey!

Talking of snow, the last decent snow I remember in London, was coming back home with a fresh Sega Megadrive after helping with the UK launch and wishing the 176's engine was more powerful as I couldn't wait to be back home and have a monster Golden Axe session...

I remember there being a number 12 routemaster parked outside an ice cream parlour in Sapporo, but never did get a photo of it as it would mean getting off the Chuo-Bus and paying another fare, tch what a skinflint eh? :))

Yesterday, summer gave us a revelatory farewell, an unexpected parting gift from a previously taciturn and gruff relative. I was in Peckham Rye Park, but I imagine the harmonious and grateful mood there was replicated across London, wherever people turned to the sun and uncoiled in its gentle warmth.

I will remember it.

Ha, I've just realised hat he first time I met Mrs Keef was in the British Legion of all places! There for a mutual friend's party. It was a couple of years and many more meetings through said friend before I finally managed to convince her that I'd be worth taking a risk on. Hope she doesnt regret the risk toooo much!

Dear Moos, I am so sorry I just do not recognise people at all well, I have never logged faces easily

and can remember driving straight past my business partner having been in partnership for ten years,

so not much chance of saying hello to anyone then.

    • We've been using Modern Milkman for six months or so.  Good and reliable service and intuitive website
    • The receptionist did request a phone call and there was an issue where seeing the symptoms would have been helpful , plus I had questions I wanted to ask - but I just got a text with very generic advice (e.g. if X happens, go to A&E).  You can definitely request routine appointments by phone. Perhaps it's at the doctor's discretion with same day ones.  Having said all that, I think it's a pretty good surgery compared to some.
    • I recommend Andy—he was punctual, tidy, resourceful, clear about timing and pricing, and did quality work at relatively short notice. I would use his services again and have already recommended him to friends.
    • You can still  request a phone appointment with a doctor, I think, if it's an issue you need to ask questions about? Or, I have had questions quickly answered by a GP  via their online system. Hopefully all this is teething problems, and the staff as well as patients are having to get to grips with a relatively new system. I can fully understand that it is much better all round if GP face to face appointments are saved for things that need a physical examination, and it must mean that patients who do need one  are seen more quickly than under the old system?
