I will be staying in today downing a few bottles of warming malbec and then maybe ordering a Chinese tonight (for myself). I don't sign up to these middle class marketing events such as St Valentines day.

Btw Gula, I love how you managed to fit 'East Dulwich' and 'Waitrose' into one sentence, well done :D

Louisa.

We've got a gig tonight, so will be Upstairs at The Old Nun's Head, with hopefully a lovely crowd of people who want to spend Valentine's Day night (as it were) listening to the very excellent James Findlay and Alex Cumming (shameless plug).

If you're by yourself, let us know and we'll introduce you to people.

If you fancy joining us (door 7.45pm) details are here http://thegooseisout.com/james-findlay/

ETA: But I'm rather hungover from too many pints of Runner at last night's shanty evening at The Ivy House :(

Congratulations, lovely news!

(about the baby, not the fish & chips) :)

Edit: stayed in, made fantastic (modest) pulao, dhal, chutney & flatbreads. Don't go in for all the hearts and flowers stuff but I always send a card to the one I love.

Staring out of the window at blokes trying to protect their bouquets from the howling wind and marvelling at the chutzpah of opening a 'pre-loved' jewellery shop the day AFTER Hallmark's favourite time of year.

Oh, and slurping down some of Bruno's un-oaked draft red after a bloody steak and broccoli in garlic and chilli.

    • A slightly vulnerable but hopeful post… Hi everyone, I’m a guy in my mid-thirties who’s recently moved back to London and East Dulwich (I previously lived here for many years before, so I know the area well). But if I’m honest, I’ve found the return a little tough. Most of my close friends have moved out of London to start families — totally understandable — but it’s left me feeling a bit adrift and not quite sure how to make new connections again. Work has taken up a huge chunk of my life in recent years, and I’ve definitely let hobbies, interests and a proper social life fall by the wayside. I feel like I went from a fun social life in my 20’s to suddenly blinking and realising things had gone a bit er…quiet. So, I’m trying to redress the balance a bit — mainly so myself and my partner don’t murder each other 😂, and just to meet some new local faces. I was wondering: is anyone else in a similar boat? And would there be any interest in starting a relaxed, low-key local social group? Could be a casual pub meet, sports, park hangouts, live comedy nights — open to ideas!  I’m happy to do the organising/admin side of things — just wanted to put it out there and see if there’s any appetite. I’ll gauge interest and take it from there.  If you’d prefer not to reply publicly, feel free to drop me a DM.  Cheers all! 👋
    • It's Inner London. You could move somewhere else?
    • They are people.  That's how people often behave.
    • Same reason there are several pizza places and Indian restaurants?
