Foxy :)

Ah - what great idea for a thread!

For me and my kids today its the lovely lady who runs 'Kids Club' at the Brixton Picturehouse on a Saturday morning (I know, I know, not quite in ED). She is always cheery, has only kind and uplifting comments to make, is full of enthusiasm and joy and makes our trip there!

HP

The service at Plough DIY. Service with a smile no matter how small the purchase, genuinely nice staff.

The newsagent/post office on Forest Hill Road. I use it often, and love that I can chat to the post office staff about their families, they ask after mine, and the guys that run the shop are great. Makes me feel part of the community every time I go in.

The food in Toasted, especially tasty lamb & then salted chocolate tart.

Beer from BossMan.

Sausage rolls from The ED Deli.

Helpful advice & unusual gifts in The Cheese Block.

Anything DIY you need from the ED home ware store (opposite the bishop)

Babur Indian delivery

Great/friendly bike servicing on Northcross Road market

Aneto's coffee & service

Oddono's - We recently had ice creams at Marine Ices at Chalk Farm, and it made me realise how lucky we are to have Oddono's in ED - much much nicer ice cream, quite a bit cheaper if memory serves, and much better service :)

And totally agree with Treeview re ToastEd's salted chocolate tart, if that was the one with the raspberries too - probably the most yummy thing I've eaten this year so far :)

Oh, and let's not forget to say Positive and Nice things about Foxy for starting this thread :))

Rekindling my support of Dulwich Hamlet FC this season after more than 40 years has been very enjoyable and great fun. Can't wait for next season.

My local butcher Kim Libretto on Wood Vale. A top bloke with the best cuts of meat and sound advice on how to cook it. Always a pleasure to visit his shop.

The staff at the Great Exhibition. I miss the old CPT greatly but the staff at The Expo (as I call it) has made the transition easy. The sun's out - time for a few afternoon drinks in the fresh air.

The Castle - proper old school boozer with the finest Guinness in Dulwich and the best place to watch sport locally.

Easycome at the White Horse in Peckham on Wednesday nights. Top night out.

The Gowlett - great pub with blooming lovely pizza and the fact they sell one of my favourite ales. Timothy Taylor's Landlord.

Not getting washed or dressed until late Monday afternoon. Time for that drink now I think.

Thank you so much Sue .. That has just Brightened my day;

and having just spent a little time with a very Special Person this afternoon.

..and the Sun is still shining. and I haven't been drinking.

Foxy :)

The contractors at the house just up the hill from Jenny Eclair's, who have removed the grafitti on their hoardings (and to the man on the corner of Friern/Goodrich Roads who paints over the nasty tagging his walls seem to attract).

Wish I could say the same for all those folk with overhanging tree branches and bushes.....

The very glitzy/OTT furniture shop at junction of Highshore and Rye Lane . I went in to ask if they had an old chair for an elderly man who was feeling unwell outside .

They said " sure ,which one would you like ? " and they weren't being sarcastic ! Just instantly helpful .

Though how they make a living I@m not sure . I never see anyone in there buying anything .

    • Personally can’t stand carpets however where I am renting has carpet in  bedroom and hall. Not great quality and certainly not cleaned. Was  in B & M recently and looking at carpet shampoo -wow got a can costing £2.99 to test.. No scrubbing as others seemed to imply. Spray, leave and poof - smells great, no dabbing or scrubbing and c leaving rubbish. First to admit is only temp solution but no need to hire carpet cleaner instantly  or pay for a company to come and deal with professionally. For 3/6 months happy to have used this - Have a carpet cleaner and in a month or so plan to use it.    Buy a steam cleaner for floors - not expensive - much better than mop and bucket and more hygienic all round. Can pick up second hand ones on e bay.
    • Is this a true story? What protein powder causes kidney damage? Why didn't you cite an article? I shop at H&B, mostly to buy their castor oil, however, I would recommend researching any product beforehand. They do have very informative articles on their website. To be honest, I don't see the point of this post. You could have just taken the product back for a refund or complained in store and in writing.
    • Well the Italian on Lordship Lane  recommended here was delicious.  Thank you so very much -my party were extremely pleased with ambience, location and lovely food plus puddings to die for. They are also on Deliveroo.  Will certainly be back when I am back in 6 weeks time. Went past Love Dulwich at lunchtime on my way to Italian - only a party of 2 - food might be excellent but decided to give it a miss - wasn’t impressed with manager who admitted he had only been there 2 weeks. Might be being totally unfair but doubt it, as no comments since about a month ago from Pugwash.
    • Thanks for the tip! I did a quick search and I’m thinking of grabbing a Bissell one. Looks like it’d be really handy for crumbs and pet hair without dragging the hoover out all the time — and especially at night when I don’t want to wake the kids 😅. For me the flat microfiber mops with the bottle attached has been game changing. No more lugging a bucket about, the thought would put me off at times
