Next EDF Drinks - Friday 5th Dec at The Wishing Well Inn

Recommended Posts

My sister's godfather used to run a crochet website called Slipknot. They used to get endless abuse from Slipknot fans for not actually being about Slipknot.

If you see what I mean.

Hmmmm it's been a long week, I promise I think of some more interesting conversation before tonight....

They said the prize was a barrel of beer, but I think they probably meant a gallon, either one I'm happy!

I used to do the pub quiz there about 15 years ago. First prize was usually a case of beer which we'd quickly polish off afterwards.

Great night, good to see new faces.

I think the pub itself rather divided people. Some loved it, some not so impressed.

I had a fascinating conversations including foreign relations and human rights and one over the urinals with an old chap about his choice of Soho based entertainment. Something he would only indulge in after pension day.

Some stunning Karaoke.

But .... Oh Brendan................................................... :))

Great night good to see new forumites along with the regulars keef, jah,mp,floating onion, andrew b, mockney, georgia, sean, and the one,s I forgot.

There is a rumour that a certain forumite might be changing their posting name to one of the below.

Yogi Bear

Kinky Bear

Hairy Bear

Cucumber Bear

Naughty Bear.

But who was it, ????????

Bob S

A lovely night....great to see old friends alongside new faces too (hello to Anthony and Sabrina to name just two).

Keef's Livin on a Prayer was awesome and his dance moves cut a dash too.

Looking forward to the pics Andrew!

edited due to grammatical error!

I did my usual piss-poor job of circulating, only managing to say hello to about half the crowd despite being amongst the first there...

Thought the pub was solidly traditional, although the chaps with the neck tatoos flicking through our unattended stuff did put me a tad on edge towards the end. None of that overshadowed another cracking night - guest singer belting out "living on a prayer" inbetween heavy pulls on an inhaler was a particular highlight!

V good night - so glad I didn't have to leave early for once!

Great to see everyone and to speak to a few new peeps and nice to try out a new pub.

Mr Buggie thinks this it is now his favourite pub - this is often said about establishments though!

Don't apologise. It was the highlight of my evening. Natalie had gone out to deliver a baby and I was stuck inside on my own, bored, ill and feeling sorry for myself.

Sounds like you guys enjoyed it.

I had a lovely time.

After a horrible week at work (which is not over yet, by the way) I was on the verge of not going and I'm so glad I made myself. Lovely, as always, to see all the regulars and very nice to meet a few newbies. Special mention for Antony who, after a dubious start ("accidentally" wandering off with BN5's pint) completely won me over with charm, wit and flattery.

Karaoke was very special, although Keef may never forgive me for not taking part, it was worth it to see him take on Bon Jovi with such style. And as for Jah Lush.... well, what a performance.

The evening even ended well with a good brisk stride home with the buggies (stopping at the EDT for a toilet break (Men, why don't you ever go before leaving the pub?) and kebab and wine for supplies) but don't even get me started on Mr Buggie's kebab breath....;-)

Had a great night, i was definitely in the camp of not being a massive fan of the pub but loved the karaoke and singing livin on a prayer with alleycat - the ol' voice is a little worse for wear today..

thanks for Raj for buying me my first drink although it did take me a moment to recover from them not serving pinot g.. great to meet JJF, the lovely lady that works for the foreign office and as always seeing all the regulars that I enjoy the company of so much..

see you all soon

    • I edited my post because I couldn't be sure we were talking about politicians and I couldn't be bothered to read it all back. But it was off the back of a thread discussing labour councillors, so it went without saying really and I should have left it.  What I said was 'There's something very aggressive about language like that - it's not big and it's not clever. Some of the angry energy that comes from the far left is pretty self-defeating.' (In relation to a labour councillor rather immaturely, in my view, wearing a jumper that read 'fuck the Tories').  But I don't recall saying that "violent rhetoric" is exclusively the domain of the left wing. So I do think you're taking a bit of a bit of leap here.
    • You literally just edited your earlier reply to remove the point you made about it being “politicians”.  Then you call me pathetic.    I’m  not trying to say you approve any of the ugly right wing nonsense.  But I AM Saying your earlier post suggesting  violent rhetoric being “left wing” was one-sided and incorrect
    • I never said that. Saying I don’t like some of the rhetoric coming from the left doesn’t mean I approve of Farage et al saying that Afghans being brought here to protect their lives and thank them for their service means there is an incalculable threat to women.    Anything to score a cheap point. It’s pretty pathetic.
    • To be fair we are as hosed as the majority of other countries post-Covid. The problem is Labour promised way too much and leant in on the we need change and we will deliver it and it was clear to anyone with a modicum of sense that no change was going to happen quickly and actually taking the reigns may have been a massive poison- chalice. As Labour are finding to their cost - there are no easy answers.  A wealth tax seems straightforward but look how Labour have U-turned on elements of non-dom - why? Because the super rich started leaving the country in their droves and whilst we all may want them to pay more tax they already pay a big chunk already and the government saw there was a problem.
