I've just seen the 2 women rummaging through bins!

For the past week I've been reading the various postings complaining bitterly about bin rummaging 'ladies' or 'women' - AKA 'lowlife bin scavenging thieving gypo scum' with increasing incredulity and amusement in equal measure.


While I love that some of the postings are as entertaining as any of the reader comments below the articles in the Daily Mail online (which I also love browsing, I might add), I have to make two observations:


1. Loons! You are proper loons!


2. When not obsessing over the discarded stinky contents of your bins, are you busy dragging them into the street outside your house in order to save 'your' parking space on the public street outside your house?


Hope you don't mind me asking! It's just that I have this image of you in my head and I just had to clear that up.

Two days ago I saw a guy lifting our bin lids and looking inside them. He stopped at one, tipped it towards himself then started pulling stuff out of it. I was having a pint in the pub over the road so couldn't quite see what he was removing. It was our recycling bin so I was naturally suspicious (some people recycle unshredded bank statements).


I decided to run over to see what he was up to. He said he was collecting ring pulls and pointed to a load of cans on the floor. Those were the only items he had pulled from the bin, there was no 'sensitive' information in that particular bin so I just let him get on with it and went back to the pub to finish my pint. After he'd raided that bin he moved on.

I wouldn't have used 'uncharitable' because letting someone scavenge in my bin for discarded crap could hardly be called charitable. I just think the people who get all worked up over this are a bit up themselves and neurotic.


Why would anyone really give a shit if they aren't stupid enough to put anything with their name etc on. If they are stupid enough to put any papers out with their names on then maybe they need to look at themselves, because with all the publicity about ID theft, you'd have to be a moron to do that.

Not sure why anyone would put an unshredded bank statement in the recyle bin anyway, but I think your reaction was pretty normal to be honest.


The people who don't even want anyone taking their old clothes or broken electricals etc are the ones my comment was aimed at.

I?ve got off street parking and the bins are on the drive way. The "scavengers" in question have to walk on to the drive to start their rummaging. This is where I had my motorbike cover pinched from and that probably does mean I?m more vexed about the whole scavengergate issue. I still don?t think it make a difference though - it?s just wrong to go through people?s bins!

quiz of the week


A darker skinned pair of women are going through the bins in public. They do not speak English.


are they:


a) part of a global criminal enterprise that is searching for documentation or your DNA to use for some kind of ingenious yet unknown scam that could clean you out and leave you destitute and fighting the pigeons for the discarded chicken bones that litter our streets


b)Collecting used and binned fabric and clothes that they sell for 50p a KG at a number of shops in South London, as well any any scrap metals that can be weighed in at any number of local metal recycling outlets.

The term gypos is generally considered to be a term of racist abuse. See story below from The Daily Record:

TOM McDonald, 82, who set up the Blairgowrie, Rattray and District Pipe Band, was given a ?200 fine for verbally abusing a couple.


A MAN once nominated for citizen of the year has been found guilty of racially abusing a couple by calling them ?gypos? and ?minky tinks?.


Drum Major Tom McDonald berated the state of the couple?s garden and then launched into a tirade of abuse in a row over a drum pad.


McDonald, 82, set up the Blairgowrie, Rattray and District Pipe Band and was nominated as Blairgowrie?s Citizen of the Year. He denied making racist remarks in McDonald Crescent, Rattray, on May 16 last year.


Francis Drummond, 37, told Perth Sheriff Court McDonald got into a row with him over a drum pad lent to his daughter. Francis said: ?He was going on about the state of the garden.


When he was walking away he gave the V-sign and said ? f*** you, you minky tink?. Sheriff Michael Fletcher found McDonald guilty and fined him ?200.

I don't whatsoever. It's the act - zero interest in ethnicity.


Even gypsies could be Irish for example. And I never even got that specific. In my mind, gyppo is akin to 'skanky' or 'grubby' with no racial thoughts whatsoever. Same as I'd say to a friend with a messy house or who hadn't showered, for example.

re saving my space, I couldn't possibly save "my" space with a bin, which would be disrespectful to the neighbours ;-)
