Rather than have a monthly ruck over where we go for the next drinks, Georgia and I would like to create a venue rota for next year. A bit organised perhaps, but, whilst we enjoy the drinks we dont enjoy some of argie-bargie that goes into identifying where we go.

So - please throw your collective hats in the ring - where would you like to go?

The criteria might be: big enough to hold a group of 30plus people, any place that would welcome 30 plus strangers turning up out of the blue, good accoustics - i.e. where people can hear each other, other added value features might be karaoke (a big hit at the Wishing Well), open fires (for winter meets), beer garden (for summer drinks). Also, the places really need to be within reasonable hitting distance of ED, i.e walkable within 30 minues.

If any pub/bar owners who feel that they fit the bill would like to volunteer, please post here as well.

The Rye most definitely in either the winter or the summer but summer would be wickard!

Clockhouse

EDT

Bishop - but not sure on the space issue

The Mag

CPT (quiet but we could make it work)

Herne Tavern

Plough although the service is as slow as grass growing so its certainly not my favourite choice

I am new to the forum, but would like to join the EDF drinks thingy

agree with SeanMacGabhann

Montpelier

Rye Hotel

would be my choice

but Magnolia, Clock House, Herne all great by me

thinking ahead, the Rye have B-B-Q's in the garden in the summer, now that's a cheery thought on a winter's dusky eve, never been but bet it would be nice... drink in one hand food in other.... what could be better

Oriwisu Spot

FHT

Montpellier

Plough

Bar Story

The Castle

Magnolia

Any away days? Perhaps extraordinary saturday or sunday afternoon meets? Borough, Forest Hill, Honor Oak, some lovely ones up in Greenwich, boat trip and everyfink etc

Drink in one hand, drink in the other.....?

The Adventure Bar? Surely everyone must love the ear-splitting sounds of Bon Jovi while battling your way to the bar for a Mojito?

Seriously though, as a newbie myself I'm quite a fan of The Plough...failing that, I do quite like The Gowlett but it sounds like its been done to death.

Ahhh, no! Is it really time to put the monthly bun fight to bed? I love that little squabble. I think the selection of a venue is a debate that grows organically out of the feelings people have about the previous drinks. Be interesting to see what choice people would opt for after the zany time that was the Wishing Well. I can see the benefit of pre-selecting say, the venues for two months at a time, but not a whole year. Pleeease.

of course.. we could... just stop having them??

Revolutionary thinking.

We could rethink it a bit, organise events rather than regular piss-ups.

Let's face it I see half of you down most pubs all the time, and Keef's Plough night is always a success for a regular beer + music.

We could be a bit more adventurous rather than argue once a month whether it'll be the Mag or the Gowlett AGAIN, and can anyone be persuaded to come to the CAstle.

Ok ok, I'll shut-up, just saying...might not have been so stupid an idea...been going to them for almost 2 years now, let's face it!!

I think that the monthly drinks are a good way of people introducing themselves, people know when they are (mostly) and this is particularly important for those with young families who need to plan ahead.

Of course, as many peole do, there is nothing to stop people organising other activities if they would like .....

    • Went to a fireworks display maybe 20 years ago at the Crystal Palace, it wasn't bonfire night, can't remember why it was being held, Capital Radio were there. There were people hanging from a crane, classical music, and quiet fireworks,  It was lovely, still dramatic with the colours but no loud bangs. Not sure why this hasn't become the norm.
