I went to a different takeaway last night, won't name it as that is not fair on a local business, but it was within a few minutes walk of Yee Wah.

I have to say the lack of quality compared to Yee Wah was noticeable to the point where I left more than I ate and it reminded me why I have used Yee Wah for over 15 years

We too tried a different Chinese a couple of nights ago, the one on the corner of Upland & Hindmans. We ordered the same dishes we got from Yeh Wah but were disappointed. The service was good but the food wasn't unfortunately & no way anywhere as good as Yeh Wah's & so the search begins for a good local Chinese takeaway

I've only had the vietnamese food there (not the Chinese dishes), but it wasn't good.

Wulli is good but if you're looking for shredded beef, sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken, etc then that's not really their forte.

I've never had those dishes....only the Szechuan stuff.

If you don't use it already get on hungryhouse. There's about 100 Chinese alone that deliver to our postcode, that's not to mention all the other cuisines. I don't order any other way now and regularly get discount.

Woke with a start this morning realising that if Yee Wah have closed (high probability now) then the Chinese calendar on my bedroom wall is the last one I will get from them.

On the plus side it may become a collectible as a result. Watch out for it on an auction site near you soon !

Gina, it's not about how many takeaways there are nearby, it's about finding one that had the same attitude towards quality ingredients and food as Yee Wah appeared to have!

I've mentioned this before but Golden K1tchen (opp the old Grove Tavern) is our local and I'm a fan. Nothing fancy or unusual on the menu but good. They do a great salt and pepper fried aubergine and king prawn with broccoli. I pick up rather than wait for delivery though as it's a small family business and not sure how many drivers they have.

If you go in early evening there is sometimes a family meal going on with what looks like really interesting stuff. I did once ask the lady who runs it if any of it was on the menu. She laughed. A lot. Not much call for chicken feet in SE22!

I challenge anyone to find better salt & chilli tofu than that from Yee Wah. Even the most hardened carnivore would find it difficult to resist.

If they all get their frozen bags of deep fried stuff and pre made overly sweet sauces from the same wholesaler, what makes any of them different? How they fry it? Frequency of oil changes? I'd genuinely like to know.
