What's better... staying in on NYE on your own or going to a party where you don't know anyone?

I'm just going to the CPT, which for the record, is not charging. Not particularly exciting, but cn't be doing with yet another night in. I shall also be surrounded by people who can most definitely hold their drink :)-D

I assume there is a tacit "on New Year's Eve" in this statement :)

CPT pretty subdued but no ticket charge bumped in to some Forumites and had a good time, got home 4 can's strongbow, bottle red wine and half a bottle of champer's would have drunk it all but Mrs Bob S beat me to it.

I had a nice time at the CPT, even got up for a dance! Left at a reasonable time, but made the mistake of going back to a friend's to call a cab... Several drinks later we finally got our cab, and got home abou 4. Oh well. :)-D
Glad to hear that people had a good time locally on NYE. Just to report, I managed to sell my ticket for last night's do and had a great time boogie-ing. Managed to get a lift back Denmark Hill too, which was good. Felt sorry for people that had been out in central London and coming back to SE London (no tubes). Most people had decided to walk by the looks of things, as at around 2.30am there seemed virtually no nightbuses going south of the river.

If you look at one of the previous months drinks threads you should find a link to some photos, have a look on there and you will probably recognise us. I don't know if Georgia has a specific part of the pub booked for us, often does.

I would offer to meet you on the way in, but my working hours can be unpredictable and I can't be sure when/if I will arrive.

Good for you CJ Im glad you plucked up the courage to go, I have met some lifelong friends by putting myself out there..

Going to your first forum drinks can be totally daunting, i went to my first back in april.. It is normally just spot the biggest group of peeps and you find them but if closer to the time you decide to go Jaws and I will be getting the bus from ED so you can come with us...

Hi Cityjules, so glad that you went to NYE party and enjoyed it. I'm considering coming to the next drinks on Friday 9th January too, and am in the same boat as you in that I don't know anyone. I'm assuming it's the Phoenix at Denmark Hill station. Handy for me as it's nearby... technically I live in Camberwell rather than East Dulwich - but only just ;-)

Speaking for myself, we are lovely. (fighting urge to insert smiley... no - no!)

Nice work going to the party, Cityjules, we were all rooting for you to go and have a fab time. Look forward to meeting you at the Phoenix. Seems an appropriate pub name for the new year.

Oh go on then :)-D

    • Second time Aria has completed a plumbing job for me and both times he’s been polite. Communicative, kept to time and completed the job. He’s very helpful and tidy as well. First job was ball valve in water tank, not easy at all. He and his team were fantastic. This time kitchen tap cylinders replaced and tap tightened.  Much appreciated, Aria thank you.
    • Thought others may be interested to help a local community centre help others.    My bank account offers roundup and it’s been growing all year. As well as treating myself or putting it towards a train ticket to see my family I’ve made a donation to the Albrighton. They can use donations at any time but I hope my donation will go towards the Christmas hampers.    Can you support them so they can provide Christmas hampers?   https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/albrightoncommunityfridge?utm_id=1&utm_term=M22JKQb6W   A donation of £50 will pay for a hamper to feed a family over this Christmas period. A donation of £30 will pay for a hamper to feed someone living on their own over the Christmas period.
    • I've never got Christmas pudding. The only times I've managed to make it vaguely acceptable to people is thus: Buy a really tiny one when it's remaindered in Tesco's. They confound carbon dating, so the yellow labelled stuff at 75% off on Boxing Day will keep you going for years. Chop it up and soak it in Stones Ginger Wine and left over Scotch. Mix it in with a decent vanilla ice cream. It's like a festive Rum 'n' Raisin. Or: Stick a couple in a demijohn of Aldi vodka and serve it to guests, accompanied by 'The Party's Over' by Johnny Mathis when people simply won't leave your flat.
