Glad to hear that the dinner service is good. I went to Pedler for brunch a couple of weekends ago, and was not impressed. The kedgeree was good (although the portion could have been larger), but it was a constant struggle to get the attention of the staff and the food and drinks took a good while to come. Which was darkly funny, having been warned upon arrival that we needed to be done with the table after an hour and a half.

Norris and Knight on Forest Hill Road is highly recommended. The homemade carrot-and-beetroot cake with pumpkin seeds and the pork pies are worth a trip on their own. Friendly staff and happy to have dogs out the front or the back; the back yard is lovely and they keep their own chickens there for eggs.
Second the recommendation for Norris and Knight on FHR. Very nice place, good coffee, nice guys that run it and happy chickens in the garden. Re the closed down DIY shop, I heard from the chap there that it's apparently going to be a deli/ice cream shop? Be nice to have some more fresh produce on that strip (though the Turkish supermarket up the road is fab).

On the windows of the old DIY store on FHR it has painted "Potager, coming soon" and various pictures of veg etc.

Would be nice to have somewhere to buy on that strip other than the Co-op. They always have junk on sale by the entrance (discounted crisps / sweets etc.) and after a busy day at work no matter how good my intentions I seem to leave with a bag of stuff I wish I hadn't bought but will hoover up anyway.

Tried two new Peckham places yesterday. First, the pop-up bar by Pedlar people in the railway arches behind Bar Story on Blenheim Grove. They have two arches: one seems a bit canteen like and has a hot dog chap selling his wares; the one next door is more bar like, with a slimmed down range of Pedlar cocktails, wine and beer. All based around the lovely Little Bird Gin. Lovely staff working there although I felt a bit sorry for them as they were clearly freezing! First time I've ever been offered a hot water bottle in a bar before.... Anyway, great place for a drink if you wrap up warm. Open noon - 6 Sat and Sun only.

Second, and after more gin at Rye Wax, we went to Flaming Mangal, the new Turkish ocakbasi place on Rye Lane. This has only been open since Thursday I think. Very very quiet but I guess no one knows it's there yet. It's got loads of seats and was very bright. Bit too bright for me but...staff were again smashing, food was solid (collectively we had variety of starters, shish and veggie dishes) and all left happy and full. Not as good as FM Mangal for me, but perfectly fine and not as far to walk! BYOB too.

    • The reason why this time it feels believable that it will actually happen is that the council has at last awarded the contracts for the works to BAM Nuttall.
    • Looking for a few (any size) paving slabs for small garden project.  Nearby to Northcross Rd.  Can collect.    thanks
    • One more while I'm here, although more of the way a word is used, and whilst possibly pedantic it really does annoy me!! "Dilemma" Constantly used to describe any tricky decision, but the definition is a decision with only two options, both of which will have an equally bad outcome.  So a choice of whether to have cake, ice cream or chocolate is NOT A DILEMMA!!! See also "Decimate", which means to reduce by 10%, not just general widespread destruction... 😖
    • So sorry to hear this, makes me so angry that some scumbag thinks they can just take someone's transport, freedom, enjoyment away, and there's so little chance of them being caught or punished adequately.  If you haven't already, register it on BikeRegister and change the status to stolen, hopefully if any responsible person considers buying it then they'll check there first.  Report it to the Police - very little chance they're able to do anything, but it's important for the stats, which may eventually provoke action by the gov? Set up search alerts on Gumtree, eBay & Facebook Marketplace, but try to be as generic as possible - often they are listed as just "road bike" rather than the exact model.  I've also printed out flyers and dropped off at local bike shops in case the bike is brought in for repairs, but not sure how worthwhile that was. Hope this helps...
