Specifically EDF posters/readers who should be working but are busy on here? How many man/woman hours are lost because you can't resist getting the next word in? Apart from Foxy who says he is retired, don't the rest of you feel like you are stealing from the well being of the country for generations to come? And some of you will complain about the trains/buses when the only place you are going is to 'work' to do what? Read/write on the forum.

I always smile at "X is costing the economy Y" stories, as the figures quoted are simply plucked out of the air. For instance, killjoys always turn up on TV whenever there's a big 'snow day' to say how much people skiving off are costing the economy. A quick Google reveals quoted figures of ?1.2bn a day, ?500 million a day and, hilariously, ?679 million a day. It's all nonsense. Skiving the odd day does not "cost the economy".

I can't bare people who won't live and let live over a snow day. After all it's only once in a blue moon! Some people are just members of the killjoy police. Retired here so free to look for bargains, get angry at the world and drink copious glasses of wine and pints of beer.

They were arsey with the receptionist, asked stupid questions, didn't listen to the answers, talked too much (mainly about how important they were) and attempted to bullsh@t rather than lose face when they didn't know the facts.

There was a terrific Monday "snow day" about six or seven years ago. There was no traffic, so we walked down the middle of the road to the Bishop at lunchtime for a swift pint. By three o'clock it was packed. Ended up spending all afternoon there.

It was a wonderful day - no traffic (until about 8pm), people ski-ing (yes really) along Park Hall Road, his Lordship managed to get from work as far as the Dog in the Village and then 'had' to stay there for a few pints and a spot of dinner until he could get a lift the rest of the way home...

This was February 8/9th 2009. It was the heaviest snowfall London had experienced in 19 years. We had well over a foot of snow outside, I remember because on the sunday evening I left the spiritualist church in Bexley and could barely navigate my way home! It was horrific. The next day everything along LL was closed, apart from the pubs! I do hope we have a good heavy snowfall this winter but the long range outlook isn't looking hopeful.

Louisa was moaning her tits off on here when that snow fell. Complaining about everyone skiving and taking the day off


But now she's all I hope we see snow again, and not reminding us all what bad people we were

Oh for goodness sakes StraferJack stop spoiling things! The 'drag up posts from years ago police' are out in force tonight! It was just a bit of snow after all. I was a little irate at the time and in hindsight maybe a little short sighted over this one. Just to clarify I've mellowed over this since on reflection and wouldn't say no to some more snow.

Jeez,what is this 'loosing' malarkey? Am I going to have to look up the Urban Dictionary again like when I didn't realise septic was an American or is it that no one can spell losing?

      Assistance Dogs - Autism: any experiences?

      https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/information-hub/assistance-dogs-emotional-support-dogs-and-therapy-dogs/   hello   i’d be interested to understand if anyone.has experience of Assistance Dogs especially for autistic children of different ages for emotional support and therapy   There was a prior thread on this topic on EDF 10 hrs ago but it had limited experiences and there was a (claimed) change in UK legislation in 2019. Whilst the industry appears unregulated/unlicensed, there are several providers (approx 15, perhaps more) who claim to have fully trained dogs or say that they can help families to train a puppy/young dog over the 18-24 months.  The latter obviously comes with a need for strong commitment to the challenge. Costs for a fully trained assistance dog are quoted at £13-15k albeit they claim £23k total cost to train the dog. On the one hand, this could potentially be a useful solution for some families if such a dog was truly trained as their websites claim and such a dog was accepted in public places and schools etc… On the other hand, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an assistance dog of this type or in this context (only for a blind or partially sighted person) and hence a real risk of fraud or exploitation! The SEN challenge for families coupled with limited resources in schools or from local authorities or the NHS as well as the extremely challenging experience of many families with schools offering little or no support or making the situation worse leaves a big risk of lots of different types of fraud and or exploitation in this area.
