pop9770
Yep f##ing makes me so angry! There's really no need for Heathrow air traffic control to send every plane over the same for path they could easily spread them over a wider area and make our lives more bearable. The first plane shown in our vicinity yesterday morning was LX345 LHR->ZRH, flying east over Thornton Heath at 06:16, at 10,000 feet. There were four more in the following hour, all also eastbound at 5-9,000 feet and no more north than Penge.http://www.heathrow.com/arrivals shows first arrival BA032 from HK, at 04:49. I went back to Webtrak to check it. It came in over New Barnet and started a U-turn over Marlow to land. pop9770
Only flights into city airport today. They're fast and only every ten mins hardly noticeable.Unlike the Heathrow ones.If only it could be like this every day. :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54015-aircraft-noise/page/16/#findComment-1025065 Share on other sites

Elphinstone's Army
This morning, (3.16)? I awoke thinking the MotherShip was landing on the roof, awful roar. There is no respite today. I keep windows facing East closed, as the larger planes seem to change gear over Barry Road, hence the screaming engines we oft times hear. And consider the pollution. flyer22
Agreed - they do seem to be flying lower or at least more overhead as the noise is a lot louder than normal. Action Group time? Planes into Heathrow normally fly 5 miles apart.. but can be as close as 3 miles. So 5 miles in 20 secs.. 15 miles a min. 900 mph. 3 miles in 20 secs.. 9 miles a min. 540 mph.I do not think so. Planes are usually 1.5 - 2 mins apart. 5 miles in 1.5 mins. 200mph 5 miles in 2.0 mins .150pmhThat is more realist for an aircraft on final approach.DulwichFox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54015-aircraft-noise/page/16/#findComment-1026705 Share on other sites
rendelharris
You're sort of both right - Fox is right about the frequency, but of course the noise precedes the planes and lingers after they've passed, so (from our garden at least) the actual periods of silence do only last twenty to thirty seconds. Jah Lush
I've timed it before and Fox is right. Around every two minutes peak time Sunday during the summer. Very busy flight path today. Woke me up around 6am this morning and it's been pretty much continuous ever since. It also being very warm and leaving windows open to keep cool doesn't help. aerie
It's exhausting, having to wake up enough at 3.30 onward to close the bedroom windows which face south east. If they are closed all night it's too hot and stuffy and sleep is elusive.
