Are there any amateur meteorologists out there that can, with some credibility, forecast this year's summer in UK? For every year since 1999 the Marmora family, have taken summer holidays in Cornwall. We've had 4 good fortnights, three average but the last two were diabolical.

Am considering reversing family tradition and going where the sun shines for sure - but ......... some have said that this year's hard winter, berries on the holly, late daffodils all point to a great summer. Can I rely on this kind of thinking?

Any views??

We normally go abroard for summer hols, but with the credit crunch and the weak ? against the Euro we will have our annual holiday in England. I would be very interested in what the weather will be like this summer.

Last year it seemed to rain constantly and i could count the days/evenings i sat out in the garden on the fingers of one hand.

Indeed it was lovely today. Seeing the sun out and the blue skies certainly put a smile on my face and I left the house full of the joys of spring.

I'm hoping above all hope that we have a glorious long hot summer that'll make up for the past couple of years which have been really awful.

I shall consult MrRose shortly, but for what it is worth he has studied the weather (can't spell meteorology) when he was training as a gliding flying instructor (they need to know more about the weather than people what fly planes with engines in them!) and he reckons it will be a hot summer.

However, I have to tell you that having tried to plan a weekend in August, all our favourite places are already heavily booked, specially the more expensive hotels in the west country. It's getting worrying now! So book something sooner rather than later. I shall try and revert back when MrRose has come from from working for one of you!

A friend of mine told me she'd read an article by a man who's made a fortune out of accurately predicting the weather - and it said this summer was going to be beautiful.

She's on holiday at the moment - tart - but I'll get some information from her when she gets back.

I have a theory that if you get a hot day around St Patricks day (17 March) you are in for a good summer - works every year. First summer I came to the UK was 1990. 18 March that year I was wearing a t-shirt in a pub beer garden, coming from Ireland I could not quite believe how nice it was. Turned out to be a v hot summer - I have used this theory every year and its pretty accurate - if you get hot weather mid March, you can all start planning your holidays in England. I'm happy to personally guarantee this.

    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
    • Having a BBQ (fingers crossed) in 2 weeks and need a small BBQ for veggie bits and any spare benches or garden tables and chairs to borrow to add to mine. Any going? Thanks in advance...
