Christ. What can you possibly say in response? Now might be the time for BBW to invoke king cnut.

Excommunicated? Well they're well rid of such a despicable fucking cunt of an archbishop and if the pope comes out in defence of this, or arguably worse, keeps quiet, then I can only hope that that signals a death knell for catholicism around the world. Although of course it won't/

There are no words of anger or disgust that adequately express how I feel about this.

That's just beyond disgusting. I know that this is nowhere near the same ballpark, but when I was a child our priest (catholic) would not baptise babies born out of wedlock. The catholic church preaches that you can't enter the the Kingdom of Heaven un-baptised. So if this teaching was correct it was a terribly punishment for the baby. Like I said, nowhere in the same ballpark, but it's what I grew up with.

I'm no Fidei Defensor, far from it in fact, but isn't paedophile scum a little harsh?

Be interesting to see how the ecclesiastical authorities react to this. They got it woefully wrong on that Bishop in Argentina, let's see if the arch-conservative pope wassisname can feck it up again.

Here's hoping.

Nothing to be offended by - think I'd remembered your having used the wording "cnut" elsewhere (although forgive me if I'm mistaken - had had some ale last night and didn't bother to do a search).

Was simply meaning that I felt that this was a circumstance that fully warrants that level of language.

Oh I wasn't offended Rosie just a bit puzzled as to what you meant.

Appart from the Archbishop the lawyer for Recife and Olinda Marcio Miranda is also a cnut of ocean going proportion for recommending a caesarean birth of twins from a body that at that age in a banana republic like Brazil has little chance of surviving.

What I don?t get is why if the catholic church is so evil, being excommunicated is so bad?

And also why in a story with two villains ? one a priest who excommunicates some people from a church (whatever that actually means, I don?t really know) and one a stepfather who repeatedly abuses a stepchild, it?s the priest/church that is filth, disgusting, vile, revolting, despicable and peadophile scum?

(for the avoidance of doubt here, i don't think that the doctors or mother acting badly on the facts as i know them, but i think that using this story as an excuse for an outpouring of hatred against a faith followed by approx 1/6th of the world's population (to some degree) is a bit OTT)

pk, I think it goes without saying that everyone on here thinks a rapist paedophile stepfather is disgusting scum.

What is even more shocking in this scenario is that the church, which should be a source of succour in times of crisis, is villifying the very people who are trying to help this child.

I'm inclined to agree pk.

It's not unlike Jehova's witnesses who'd rather die than have a blood transfusion.

Religious rules aren't there to be broken by pathetic little things like compassion, humanity or logic, they are hard and fast things that result in heaven or hell.

Seen from that point of view it's we heathens who are stupid and doomed, and the archibishop who's trying to prevent more souls condemned to hell in future.

Can't have your cake and eat it you know.

Mind you fucking stupid cunts!!!!!!

Yes, effectively forcing people to live their lives in abject fear of God and the chuch, and adhering to a dark ages outlook on life is such a plus point innit - those papal coffers dont fill themselves you know.

Hushing up sex abuse cases is probabaly another slur on a noble institution as well

And I wont even make any reference to the Lateran pact, cos that will invoke that law about calling someone a Nazi that some deluded fools think instantly devalues whatever point you may have made

And El papa isnt an ex Nazi either Im sure

OTT ?

    • Sadly I think you will never convince people like this. They think gardens have to be kept chopped back and controlled. My theory is that this comes from being (or trying to be) controlling in every aspect of their lives, so I doubt if anything you could say or show them would have any effect. But are they actually coming into your garden or leaning over into it and pulling up/damaging things? If so, maybe one of our community police people could have a word with them?
    • Dear Nature lovers - advice please. I am being harassed by a neighbour who doesn't like my standard of gardening which she calls 'messy'. (I have rewilded my garden with advice from the London Wildlife Trust and a gardening expert from The Times.) I have twice caught this neighbour and her husband pulling up my plants and damaging my trees. Plus she has photographed my house, and sent a dozen complaints to the Dulwich Estate about my plan to rewild the verge outside my property - approved by the Estate some 4 years ago in line with their stated policy of supporting biodiversity in and around Dulwich. What can I do to introduce these neighbours  to the benefits to us all of returning a portion of our gardens to nature?
    • Have you tried Southwark's leisure centres? As a regular attendee at Peckham, Camberwell, The Castle and speaking to friends, the dance routines for all ages are similar to Silver ones. In addition Natty, Bianca and Isac are brilliant instructors.
    • I've been there for lunch a few times and the home cooked asian food (as part of Sweat Dreams cafe) is genuinely great and a must try. I think the food side of the business has been slow to be noticed but people are now realising what is actually hidden in plain sight.  As for the Aroma Lab coffee ... it is excellent, they are very welcoming and friendly (and unpretentious!). This Australian coffee snob is mightily impressed!!
