Next EDF Drinks - Friday 3rd April at The Lodge (above the EDT from 8:30PM)

Recommended Posts

Great meeting everyone last night, really enjoyed it. Definately the plushest EDF Drinks venue I've attended (4th on the spin!), and the food samples were pretty tasty...

Now I am going to rough it at Craven Cottage and check out the ale & pies in that neck of the woods :)

Well I had an excellent night - failed to speak to as many people as I intended to but I think I made up for it by inappropriate touching up of CharlieCharlie's necklace in the toilets - and Keef, yes, I did think you looked quite the cool rider.

Managed to get kebab juice all over the sofa when i got in though.

Had a great time, and thanks to the Lodge for looking after us - a lovely venue.

Also actually got off my lazy bottom for once, and met some new people who are as charming in real life as they are on the Forum. You may interpret that exactly as you wish.

I feel amazingly perky, but then I didnt get up until noon. The weather is lovely, an afternoon pottering on the balcony and possibly an evening by the River beckon.

Very many thanks to The Lounge for their hospitality.

He means the Lodge, the Lodge. Forgive him - he be more sozzled than he thinks

I bumped into some revellers this morning who looked far better than they had any right to (ooops - Sean casting judgement again) I had an idea the night was going to be good and so it was. Well done georgia for sorting it out and well done the Lodge for putting on a good show. . I like the idea of your forthcoming iPod nights as well

An excellent night!! Surprised no major hang over. Behold the powers of the lamb doner wrap from stab and wine!

Very nice venue which I think they did very well out of us. Good nibbles, just not enough, felt there could have been more from that point of view.

They need to change the sign outside though, doesn't reflect the interior and feel of the place.

Well done Georgia!

Great to meet as many as I could and put some faces to names!

Roll on next one!!

Nice venue - thanks Georgia.

I decided not to try to talk to everyone in the room on this, my fourth EDF drinks night, and ended up having a laid back and relaxing evening rather than feeling like a stressed-out pinball on steroids.

Had a great night...

..met lots of new people which is great.

Met two longstanding forumites I was hoping to - Moos and jah - and both were, as I expected, well worth the entrance fee alone...infact they both bought me a drink which I didn't return..next time.

Invented children that people didn't have, gave some awful tips for the Grand National, failed to dig myself out of a "come dine with me" hole, drank a bleedin' Gin & Tonic, nearly lost CC's drink....and ended up going down to Camberwell until 4....all good fun...(no Kebab)

Indeed helped hangover a bit. Pleased for Mockney and Rhinestone too (how come I get the 0-0s!), Mockney fretting about if he'd got a suit to wear to the was worth having to have a Gin & Tonic.

Sorry only spoke fleetingly Sean, good to see you as always.

I recall meeting someone who promised to send me a song about actuaries... not yet convinced this wasn't the drink talking and that no such song exists (seems an odd thing to sing about!), but I'll be watching my PMs with interest!

That was me. It's not about actuaries per se (it's about the appropriate time to have "off" between relationships (oh - and penis pumps))! But it is called The Actuary Song and is sung in a musical (called "I Love You Because") by a character who is an actuary! I suppose it has some "actuary-type" qualities about it!!

Enjoyed meeting people: some again, some for the first time but, too many, not at all. Thanks Georgia - and yes, the venue was nice. Decor eclectic. Some of it hideous and some of it rather lovely. Something for everyone - a bit like the people there!!

Edited for my own reasons.

    • Per Cllr McAsh, as quoted above: “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution. " Is anyone au fait with the Clean Air Act 1993, and  particularly with the state of 'Smoke Control' law and practice generally?  I've just been looking  through some of it for the first time and, afaics, the civil penalties mentioned  were introduced into the Clean Air Act, at Schedule 1A, in May 2022.  So it seems that, in this particular,  it's a matter of the enforcement policy trailing well behind the legislation.  I'm not criticising that at all, but am curious.
    • Here's the part of march46's linked-to Southwark News article pertaining to Southwark Council. "Southwark Council were also contacted for a response. "Councillor James McAsh, Cabinet Member for Clean Air, Streets & Waste said: “One of Southwark’s key priorities is to create a healthy environment for our residents. “To achieve this we closely monitor legislation and measures that influence air pollution – our entire borough apart from inland waterways is designated as a Smoke Control Area, and we also offer substantial provision for electric vehicles to promote alternative fuel travel options and our Streets for People strategy. “We as a council support the work of Mums for Lungs and recognise the health and environmental impacts of domestic solid fuel burning, particularly from wood-burning appliances. “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution.  “This work is being undertaken in collaboration with other London boroughs as part of the pan-London Wood Burning Project, which aims to harmonise enforcement approaches and share best practice across the capital.” ETA: And here's a post I made a few years ago, with tangential relevance.  https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/278140-early-morning-drone-flying/?do=findComment&comment=1493274
    • The solicitor is also the Executor. Big mistake, but my Aunt was very old, and this was the Covid years and shortly after so impossible to intervene and get a couple of close relatives to do this.  She had no children so this is the nephews and nieces. He is a single practitioner, and most at his age would have long since retired - there is a question over his competence Two letters have already gone essentially complaining - batted off and 'amusingly' one put the blame on us. There are five on our side, all speaking to each other, and ideally would work as a single point of contact.  But he has said that this is not allowed - we've all given approval to act on each others behalf. There are five on her late husband's side, who have not engaged with us despite the suggestion to work as a team, There is one other, who get's the lion's share, the typicical 'friend', but we are long since challenging the will. I would like to put another complaint together that he has not used modern collective communication (I expect that he is incapable) which had seriously delayed the execution of the will.   I know many in their 80s very adept with smart phones so that is not an ageist comment. The house has deteriorated very badly, with cold, damp and a serious leak.  PM me if you want to see the dreadful condition that it is now in. I would also question why if the five of us are happy to work together why all of us need to confirm in writing.             The house was lived in until Feb 23, and has been allowed to get like this.
