Have you ever made a claim for a completely outrageous expense? (to your employer if you're an employee; or 'on the business' if you're self-emp or have your own company)

Inadvertent or intentional?

What was it for? And how much?

Did you succeed?

Or were you caught out?

I have heard of some people regularly putting through - successful - claims for lap-dancing club bills... Entertaining clients, apparently.

We had a few drinks after work that went that way only a few months ago, and led to a visit to 'For Your Eyes Only' down the road. A good night was had by all, though I did remember in the morning to my horror that much of the night's entertainments were duly slapped on my company plastic. Relief did follow though, as it turns out FYEO specify any frivolous add-ons merely as 'Personal Services'.

Worth every penny if you ask me.

'apparently'? Come work in our firm..happens all the time!!

Recruitment agents often take clients to strip clubs.

It happens in banking too (obviously).

I've never done anything too outrageous (I never really have the scope to expense many things in my job) but have paid for meals for friends and family before. It's not much... but probably came to more than Jaqui's husband's porn.

Back in 1997, I was holed up in a Luxembourg hotel room for 2 weeks during which time I had to arrange Cup Winners Cup semi final travel & ticket arrangements in Paris for me and my cousin - anyway it cost my employer over ?200 in hotel room telephone charges...

Although some of the telephone costs included getting a running commentary on the final minutes from a friend at Highbury watching Liverpool beat Arsenal :-)

The worst one was my pal who told his work that his only sister was in a car accident in Australia & lost both her legs, they payed for an all expenses ticket back home for him, extended holiday pay & gave him a pay rise...btw, his sister was never in an accident & has no probs walking. Lets hope his bosses never check his facebook...
Back in the 80s I was called into my bosses office and told that we were in serious danger of coming in at year-end under budget and that this would be a catastrophe and must not be allowed to happen. We spent the next three weeks lunching at every over-priced restaurant we could think of. On the last day before year-end we surpassed ourselves; went to the old Roux brothers restaurant and ordered a bottle of wine with a price-tag so HUGE I cannot bring myself to divulge it. Anyway, we came in only slightly under budget and my boss was delighted and I got a big pay rise. Those were the 80s. These days if I tried to claim anything more expensive than a packet of chewing gum I'd have to send a three page memo explaining myself.
yup, in my first job, also in the 80s we went to some exhibition then took loads of clients and competitors out for a huge meal and drinking cocktails in some crappy west end bar "Peppermint Park" - my boss and me then spoofed with our competitors for the bill, we lost, then I had to spoof for the bill with my boss, and lost....luckily he signed my expenses, but I wasn't sure he would as he was paralytic on the evening and the bill was two months take home for me...luckily pole dancing wasn't in the UK then

I woek in an culture that lives on expenses, entertainment & freebies

I refuse to get involved in the whole vile package - probabaly to my detriment and it does fuck up any "networking" opportunities, but its better to keep your principles than whore yourself for a few quid or a free meal

Whats the difference between an MP pushing the boundaries of her expenses & you taking your partner out for a meal & passing it off as client entertainment ?

Answer: nothing.

this isnt A La carte & you cant critisise the MPS for adopting the same principles as the rest of us.

I see what you're saying. Except that MPs should know that the opposition and the media thrive on any tiny bit of dirt they can dig up. And my expenses don't come out of public funds.

But yeah, all this fuss about a couple of PPV films is ridiculous, for such an insignificant amount.

    • I'd like to post a recommendation for Jerry Oscar of H.F.U. Ltd.   Jerry has just completed the renovation of my bathroom and I’m so happy with how it turned out.  My bathroom has a strange layout (with about a quarter of the room/floor space un-useable due to the stairs underneath), but he came up with some great ideas that have really made the most of the space - somehow he turned the room into a tardis and made room for a bath (previously only had a shower) AND even given me extra storage. He's a magician!  I felt he really cares about what he does and treated the project like it was his own home. He was also great to have around – super friendly, easy to talk to and raise any queries or concerns with the project, and he was very respectful of the space. He kept his tools tidy and made sure the bathroom was still usable while he worked, which made a big difference day to day. He doesn’t cut corners and clearly has high standards.  I’m honestly so pleased with how everything turned out. If you’re looking for someone reliable and skilled, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Jerry. He does kitchens too, and if I ever redo mine, I’ll be giving him a call. • These Gents are amazing, we asked them to come and paint our whole house interior and fix a number of issues from previous paint jobs. They are professional, clean up after themselves and pay attention to every detail. Their work is outstanding and I can't recommend them enough, Brian and Malachi are incredible.
    • Fabion is an experienced plumber. I was connected with Fabion through an App when I had an emergency issue with my water tank in the loft. He fixed it.  He also came back to replace my taps in the kitchen. Since then Fabion has been able to help me with the following:  1. Putting up blinds - immaculate 2. Dismantling and reassembling beds x2 (30 mins flat)  3. Taking down big old doors Extremely professional. Clean - never leaves a mess. SO fast. Attends when he say he's going to attend. Friendly and kind.  I cannot recommend him more highly.
    • Hi would be grateful for any recommendations. It is for a special birthday. One of the party is vegetarian. Thanks
