So did I quids!!! It was approx 1995, I was only about 17. They used to get big acts there doing warm up shows. In fact ED Comedy (as it was then) still does up at the hob. Izzard though is probably far too big a star these days!

Still like him, but think his comedy peak was "Dress to kill", and that was over 10 years ago now!

Cake or death?

Actually Keeeff, you couldn't be more wrong. Eddie does tiny warm-up gigs all the time. He does them quietly though so unless you know they're happening you'll never hear anything about them because warm-ups don't get reviewed. Last week he played the Pleasance in Islington, which is really small, and he played Liverpool Uni, also last week. ?10 a ticket.

His warm-up venue for the last tour was mostly the Soho Theatre but last year he did a couple of nights at the Arts Theatre near Leicester Square. These are both tiny venues and he only charges ?10 a ticket.

The problem is that the gigs sell out so very fast that I don't even get the chance to post on the forum. I'm a huge Eddie fan and always go to warm-ups whenever possible. I'll make a real effort to post something here about the next one but it is difficult and I don't want to piss forumites off by posting about something that's already sold out.

Ricky Gervais is also doing warm-ups at the moment - he's using the Bloomsbury Theatre, the Shaw (I think) and also some gaff in Finchley. I've been to a couple but I've never found Ricky's work in progress that funny to be honest.

Anyway, death or cake right back at you.

so right, giggirl, Izzard is in totally a different league,

Gervais... to much work makes a dull boy, still very Office-y, bit of a one trick pony IMO

how to you get to find out about the warm up shows, are you in the business?

any tips and or PM's welcome

Sorry Charlie but Eddie's warm ups sell out so fast he doesn't even post info on his own website. Next time he does something I'll try to buy extra seats if I can and offer them for sale on the forum. They are really brilliant and he's so much more relaxed than he is when doing a "proper" show. I guess he thinks that for ?10 everyone is happy. It is actually quite funny (in a perverse way) when he does something that falls flat.

I expect to see him do a handful of warm-ups in the regions but come late summer I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't set up shop somewhere like Soho or the Arts for anything up to two weeks to finalise the material for the tour. Soho is also used by, amongst others, Russell Brand and Omid Djalili for warm ups. Russell Howard is currently in "warm-up residency" at the Soho; Monday nights ?10. All good fun.

If anyone is interested in seeing Ricky Gervais do a warm up, I think he's got one coming up in Finchley later this month - 26th I think. Here's a link to the venue - phone them up and see if they can confirm when the tickets go on sale. Bear in mind that the staff may not know about it yet but I think it will happen. Tickets will fly out the door of course so phone asap if you're interested.

    • no need to be snipey mulumbo - just trying to understand what you want to achieve - if you have what you need great - no need to be ungrateful or unkind
    • He should be. His behaviour has been appalling. Refusing to comply with a Speaker's request to come back to the HoC and explain himself shows utter contempt to parliament and the electorate. If he had any any integrity he would resign. Nothing to do with the prisoner, but all to do with his arrogance and contempt. This Labour party don't have any integrity at all though. We are two weeks away from the Chancellor of the Exchequer breaking a fundamental manifesto commitment. Breaking promises like demeans the entire contract between voters and MPs. If she doesn't resign for breaking those promises (she won't) then all manifesto promises going forward have to also be treated as lies, not worth the paper they are written on.  She should have already resigned herself for the breaking the law over her failure to register as a landlord. They are an absolute disgrace. And whilst all this farce plays out in Downing St where the fuck is the Prime Minister? Nowhere to be seen, unanswerable to the public about this disgraceful shambles.
    • That's a shame. I tried to take my car there for an a/c issue a couple of times this summer but they seemed to be closed on both occasions so I gave up in the end. Hopefully they'll enjoy their retirement proceeds from selling their site to a property developer! The garage in Upland Road (Pitstop) is good for servicing and repairs. Kwik fit in Grove Vale is also good and they do the diagnostics tests too.
    • It's done while you wait. 🤷‍♂️
