I had a great bank holiday weekend, hope everyone else did to. I had a great time checking out the bank holiday offerings of the pubs in ED. It was a surprisingly hot day and the football was on, we started at the Bishop which was rammed full, such an uncomfortable place to be especially when it is hot. The beer is dire in there to, there is hardly any gas to the beer at all and at ?3.80 a pop, its a costly pint. We then headed down to the EDT and although the beer is better, the staff are absoloutely ghastly, they would rather have a chat to each other than serve customers. So infuriating. Next stop was the The Vale to watch the football. I must say I dont really head down that way much but I had an excellent time, I saw the match and then we headed out into the garden for some lunch, I read somewhere that there was a new chef there. It was excellent, I had the lamb shank and my mates all had the spicy cajun burger. It really was fantastic. The staff were so friendly, it was busy but not once did I feel crushed or devalued. I will certainly head down there more often. Roll on the next bank holiday weekend!

Misinterpreted, you just posted in another thread as if you own or work at the Vale..

"Hi Viper,

Thanks for the feedback, what would get you to venture down to see us more? The DJ is actually a very good one, but we are not tied to it. Anything else that you would like to see? Any feedback would be more than welcome.

Thanks"

Oops.

two problems with the initial posting

1) Its the Vale

2) Its the Vale

The correct approach is to bang on about how great XXXXXX or the XXXXXXX is - it is forum convention that everyone will agree with wnhatever you say on these subjects and no one will be suspicious

Maybe if the Value served ?4 plates of olives to its patrons & employed a junior member of staff full time to paint elaborate signeage on a daily basis, things might change

Why have you Xed out Green & Blue and The Cherry Snorky?

And it looks like that the problem in the first post is that the OP is a scampy little schemer who tried to hoodwink the good burghers of ED. And the hood he was trying to wink us with was made of wool, which he tried to pull over our eyes.

Still he's been caught out good and proper and is probably crying now.

I did eat at the Vale one weekday afternoon with son no1 while waiting for a tyre repair. This was last Summer. The guy behind the bar was very friendly.. the place was wather empty and echoing, the food was Okish but they had no veggy choice on offer really.. we had quiche and chips there was nothing else. Is this the place with an outside space for children?

My guess is it isn't marketing itself properly at any niche. It has a dj... aimed at adults out at the weekend?

steps to mount an effective PR campaign

1) Register on forum en masse using different IPs

2) contribute and get people on your side on a wide range of dull topics, including School waiting lists and lost cats

3) Nothing controversial, just vanilla chit chat - no calls for bourgeois blood to be running in the gutters of LL etc

4) begin the slow process of raising the profile of the establishment - eg "wheres the best place to watch the Liverpool game ? ( the correct answer id of course anywhere except the open sewer that is merseyside) - nominate your chosen bar, quoting previous examples of a fantastic day out for the whole family

5) get other members of the squad to ageee but put a few red herrings in ( " was a bit busy for the the FA cup last year through...took 5 minutes to get to the bar" etc )

6) drip feed the PR on a regtular basis using alternate established logons and reboot your router after each posting to muddy the trail

I would have made sure I posted using a different username, I don't think it's much more complicated than that. Maybe go through a proxy if you're really trying to cover your tracks.

I've actually been subtly suggesting you all shop at the Irish shop under multiple logins for years now. It's nearly a full-time job.

Why is it that every fake recommendation is so obvious?

Even if this poster hadn't posted the other messasge... even if he/she wasn't a new user... it's just so *obvious* from the tone and format of the post.

Slag off one or two popular establishments.

Mention that you then went to another place, which you wouldn't have normally tried.

Throw in some irrelevant details which you "read somewhere".

Finish with implausible, over-the-top, glowing review of products and service.

"Not once did I feel crushed or devalued"!!

Loving this line. Why do I suspect this is an exact quote from a letter of complaint they've have recently? Let's face it, no-one uses that phrase in normal conversation.

"I went to Sainsburys on Saturday afternoon, the queues were massive and there were only about 5 tills open. I have to say, I felt completely crushed and devalued."

"I got on the 176 bus last night, after waiting twenty minutes, it was rammed as usual and I couldn't sit down because someone had their bags on the seat. I felt completely crushed and devalued."

"My cat ran away at the weekend, I felt completely crushed and devalued."

See, it sounds almost normal now, doesn't it?

Now determined to shoehorn this phrase into monthly sales meeting with boss this afternoon!

    • Staff get taxis in and out and get paid extra (which I think is x2). Some people like to work on Bank Holidays and others don’t. Some people actively avoid Christmas for personal reasons. Long live freedom of choice!
    • Here is another article from the excellent Special Needs Jungle (SNJ) with tips for responses to the SEND conversation survey. Including shoe horning in EHCPs which they "forget" to ask a question about in the conversation. And living as we do in Southwark with the huge misfortune of 100% academy secondary schools, some thoughts on this and how unlikely inclusion in mainstream is within the current education landscape. Closing date 14 Jan 2026. And please consider a donation to the excellent entirely run by volunteers SNJ. In my view the government could save money by creating some smaller mainstream secondary schools for kids who can cope in primary school but not  with the scale of secondary, and need a calmer less busy setting. The funding would have to be different - it is currently on a per pupil basis which favours larger schools. But it would undoubtedly be cheaper than specialist provision, and the huge cost to individual children and families (emotional and financial) and to society. https://www.specialneedsjungle.com/tips-help-complete-governments-send-conversation-survey-law/ If anyone wants to take a radical step to help their struggling child, my tip is to move far away: these are the best two schools I have ever visited and in a beautiful part of the country. I only wish we'd moved there before it was too late for my son who had to suffer multiple failings at Charter North and then at the hands of Southwark SEND, out of education from February to October in year 10-11, having already suffered the enduring trauma of a very difficult early life, which in combination with ADHD made his time at schools which just don't care so very unbearable for all of us. https://www.cartmelprioryschool.co.uk/ https://settlebeck.org/ As an add on, I would say to anybody considering adoption, please take into account the education battles that you are very much more likely to face than the average parent. First you have schools to deal with, already terrible; then being passed from pillar to post within Southwark Education, SEND, Education Inclusion Team, round and round as they all do their best to explain why they are not responsible and you need someone different, let's hold another multi-agency meeting, never for one minute considering that if they put the child at the centre and used common sense they would achieve a lot more in much less time without loads of Southwark employees sitting in endless meetings with long suffering parents. It is hard to fully imagine this at the start of your adoption journey, full of hope as you are, but truly education is not for the faint hearted, and should be factored into your decision. You'll never hear from people who are really struggling and continue to do so, only from those who've had challenges but overcome them and it's all lovely. And education, the very people who should be there to help, are the ones who make your lives the most hellish out of everything your child and you face.
    • It’s a big problem all over London. I’ve seen it happen in Kennington and Bloomsbury in the last year. I think there has been some progress recently with some key arrests, but you do need to be very careful when walking around with your phone out, especially, as you say, if wearing noise cancelling headphones. Sorry you experienced this
