Lunch at the Vale

Recommended Posts

I should add that I've never actually been in The Vale, mainly because any place that advertises itself as a "DJ Bar" is obvious shorthand for "full of trendy twats" and "won't have Strongbow on tap and will instead try to peddle you some ridculous imported designed by marketing gonks brand of cider in a massive bottle and (horrors!) with ice, for almost twice as much as a normal pint would have cost you."

Ha ha, Jeremy, Osbourne Stewartgate was a classic!

I've always stuck to my NTV feelings, but popped in to watch a footy match a couple of months ago, and have to sat it was a nice place to watch the footy.

Just a shame there isn't much else going for it, and my coat got nicked ther, and they told the police "nothing gets stolen from my bar". So helpful.

I guess the Vale is old East Dulwich - a throw back to when landlords / owners had to show a harder line to customers.

I only visit the place when I want to watch the Football and have not encountered any issues personally. Beer seems cheaper than on Lordship Lane. I guess the big problem is it's location as it's a bit isolated from modern day East Dulwich on LL.

The thing is, the Vale is getting better and for those of us that live up this side, it can be v pleasant for the occasional jar. The garden is fantastic and the kiddies bit (my boy played in there for an hour on Saturday) is great.

The OP was so obviously a fake I couldn't resist checking the posting history...

Yes, I have been meaning to go and have a look. If they sold themselves as a child friendly place to eat and offered a semi-healthy child's menu and ran some weekend promotion.. they'd do themselves much more of a favour than this sort of thing which just makes them look desperate. What's the play area like? Is it still Ok to park in trhe vicinity?

Astroturfing for your own business is one thing - yes it's "illegal" but lots of people do it on this forum and others like it with varying degrees of success. As others have said, it's pretty easy to spot even if you can't prove it and you can form your own view about whether that's a business you want to deal with.

What strikes me as really unnecessary is to slag off the Bishop and the EDT in that way. I haven't worked in a bar or pub for years (and things have probably changed) but I would guess it's a small enough world that it will almost certainly come round to bite the Vale on the backside. Or maybe they are far enough away that they don't ever need to borrow change and/or pipes/equipment/glasses, discuss security and crime in the area, share information about troublesome customers etc...

Having already expressed my views on this establishment on another thread I won't repeat myself here. I agree with Sidue there was/is no need to do any bad mouthing of local competition and really makes one wonder of the attitude of staff/owners of said establishment. Am I encouraged to venture into this place with all this talk of new ideas and improvements when open "slagging" off is done? hmmm lets see...

I am open to bribes if The Vale needs another login?

If it's a goer I'll remove this post to cover our tracks. ;-)

Just get the copy over to me by Friday each week plus a cheque, and I'll do the rest : )

Additional jibes directed at rival establishements (eg The other day I saw a man sobbing into his flat pint outside The Gowlett, which looked to be on fire), will be extra.

This looks too easy.

Misinterpreted's post could be a rival's attempt to discredit the vale.

Is this a clever example of reverse advertising?

Hmmmm. I suspect that the other posting by misinterpreted that was made 4 minutes after this suspected self-congratulatory endorsement was actually intended as a Private Message to Viper, as it's addressed to an individual, i.e. Hi Viper. The poster, misinterpreted, being new to the forum, may have then gone into a flap after realising their mistake and without realising they could edit the unintended posting has since gone under cover as no future posting have been made by misinterpreted.

Of course you could be right in that it was a deliberate attempt by a competitor to undermine the Vale - on the otherhand it could have been a carefully calculated risk by misinterpreted that drumming up any kind of publicity in the cynical east dulwich universe is a good PR exercise.

No, as we have all discovered this is nothing like a clever attempt at reverse advertising. How embarrassing, it's a bit like saying hello everyone I'm as bright as a 1 amp fuse!.

Well, Ratty if it's not a bar for trendy tw*ts with overpriced bottled cider, then I would say its marketing campaign is definitely way off the mark 'cos that's the impression I got the numerous times I walked past and didn't go in. Of course, now I've got the impression its stuff are numpties who are so desperate to plug their bar they'll do almost anything, no matter how underhand. And funnily enough, I still don't want to go inside.

Be fair it isn't that bad a pub, but you have to ask yourself, why did he do it?. It's ridonkulous. Sack your promoter and employ someone with a brain, you can't do it on the cheap unless you have experience.

Unless as was stated earlier The Vale has zero knowledge of the forum and it is a conspiracy theorists dream come true, hay ibilly99 should this be merged with the conspiracy theories thread. LOL!!!!.

A doppleganger by the name of misinterpreted was employed by another establishment on LL to discredit the competition.

You never know????????.

    • I am faintly amused by the cries of horror when the overtly political actions of Southwark Council Labour (their car hatred does after all form part of their manifesto) is countered by what might possibly be political action of others (although there is some evidence to support it being a groundswell of purely local and not party-affiliated activity). Who is behind Southwark Labour party one might ask - is it Militant Trotskyites? From where are they being funded? The Kremlin, Beijing?
    • Ha ha, some people really don't like an opinion that differs to theirs do they! Bravo One Dulwich - you're magnificently rattling the cages of people who don't want to hear a differing opinion and the fact they get so irate about it is the icing on the cake! Some spend so much emotional energy trying to convince themselves One Dulwich is some shadowy, agitator state-funded lobby group when all they are is a group of local residents giving a voice to the majority of residents impacted by the measures.
    • @Earl, Be assured, it is purely a local group. In fact it is a genteel group of Dulwich area residents, mostly ladies , who are a little  reluctant to publish their individual names as they do not wish to be targets for hostility from internet trolls. Local residents who attended the anti-LTN gatherings in Dulwich would have easily recognised the active members of the group. Should you have any queries about funding, it is quite easy to send them an email.
    • Hi  I have a spare old wheelbarrow that you could have for free. You’d need to come and collect it from Telegraph Hill, so drop me a message if you’re still looking and we can arrange a time best wishes carrie
