Nothing in my opinion Sherwick it's just that it should be carried out by the authorities and in the case of the two offenders being dicused they should be locked up for the rest of their lives being that when they leave it will be in a box. They should be locked up for 23 hours a day with no human contact for those 23 hours unless strictly nessecery. No T.V or any other form of entertainment. Soundproof cell. basic yet reasonable sanitary utilities. Strictky monitored to stop themselves doing themselves any harm (I want them to live out their incarceration for as long as possible) A very tiny window that gives them a very small glimpse of the world that is passing them by.

In effect, a living tomb.

I'm seriously struggling to get to grips with peoples lack of imagination regarding the conditions I've described above.

If someone killed a member of my family and I knew they were enduring the conditions I've described and was safe in the knowledge that they were never goin to be released I'd be content that justice had been done.

The "waste of effort and money" is a red herring... for the tiny proportion of crimes which would warrant a death sentence (e.g. in the U.S.) I don't think it's going to make any difference at all to the costs of the prison system.

Some people are assuming that the parents would like to see the murderers killed... maybe they do, who knows... but you shouldn't assume others share your values. Not everybody is driven by revenge.

No offence taken, and I think I've put what I meant very badly. I suppose what I was trying to say was that as a society we need more than punishment to deal with crime or we are not a society at all.

I see the word revenge being tossed around as if revenge against such barbric and heinous crimes should never be considered. Well I tell you what if I was unforunate enough to be in the shoes of the parents of the students butchered by those evil bastards, I'd want them to suffer EXACTLY the same fate inflicted upon their victims. Yes it's revenge yes it's tit for tat yes it's an eye for an eye and I've no problem with that at all. I'm F**king sick and tired of all the naval gazing that goes on today, we hear so often about the pontification of the liberal bleeding hearts who bang on about the rights of the criminal and F**K the victim, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH. I ain't no F**KING christian, nor do I believe in any other doctrine, but I certainly ain't prepared to turn the other F**KING cheek. Now to all of you who are anti capital punishemnt accept there are more & more people who want it brought back and the numbers are growing. IF THIS MAKES UNCOMRTABLE READING TOO F**KING BAD. Kill the c**ts and have done with them, pieces of garbage that they are. I make no apology for my views.

Absolutely.

There can't be many 40+ somethings who have lived thru' Decades and witnessed the decline of our standards and wonderful Society who would not agree with you.

Most certainly (almost) everyone who lives in a Community, where these Human pieces of filth reside, would endorse your views Atila.

These Guys need to be taken out of Society for ever by whatever means necessary.

I like BBW's idea of a living tomb but would prefer that after the perpetrators got stabbed 200 themselves and, somehow, survived.

"I make no apology for my views".....

Nor should you ever be defensive or apologetic about having them.

Quite frequently those of a more "liberal" persuasion in their 20's/30's have finally had enough by the time they get older and come around more to our way of thinking.

Article 2 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union prohibits the practice of judical execution in time of peace, so however many people in the UK want to reinstate it, it isn't going to happen.

Blood lust solves or redresses nothing.

My father was murdered by terrorists, that they killed them selves offers nothing back to me. Would I want the death penalty. No it does not bring back a dead man. Is society better for it ,No it is a screen, it does not deter people from killing people, violating each other. If it really worked in the places still in it's thrall then why is it still necessary to apply it.

As a society we are tarnished by the death penalty, do we look at the American states that use it as visionary or trapped in a brutal & moral time warp.

The later is true, if you think anything other then ship out and move to one of those places. Put your money where your mouth is.

    • “There was an excellent discussion on Newscast last night between the BBC Political Editor, the director of the IFS and the director of More In Common - all highly intelligent people with no party political agenda ” I would call this “generous”   Labour should never have made that tax promise because, as with - duh - Brexit, it’s pretending the real world doesn’t exist now. I blame Labour in no small part for this delusion. But the electorate need to cop on as well.  They think they can have everything they want without responsibilities, costs or attachments. The media encourage this  Labour do need to raise taxes. The country needs it.  Now, exactly how it’s done remains to be seen. But if people are just going to go around going “la la laffer curve. Liars! String em up! Vote someone else” then they just aren’t serious people reckoning with the problem yes Labour are more than a year into their term, but after 14 years of what the Tories  did? Whoever takes over, has a major problem
    • Messaging, messaging, messaging. That's all it boils down to. There are only so many fiscal policies out there, and they're there for the taking, no matter which party you're in. I hate to say it, but Farage gets it right every time. Even when Reform reneges on fiscal policy, it does it with enough confidence and candidness that no one is wringing their hands. Instead, they're quietly admired for their pragmatism. Strangely, it's exactly the same as Labour has done, with its manifesto reverse on income tax, but it's going to bomb.  Blaming the Tories / Brexit / Covid / Putin ... none of it washes with the public anymore  - it wants to be sold a vision of the future, not reminded of the disasters of the past. Labour put itself on the back foot with its 'the tories fucked it all up' stance right at the beginning of its tenure.  All Lammy had to do (as with Reeves and Raynor etc) was say 'mea culpa. We've made a mistake, we'll fix it. Sorry guys, we're on it'. But instead it's 'nothing to see here / it's someone else's fault / I was buying a suit / hadn't been briefed yet'.  And, of course, the press smells blood, which never helps.  Oh! And Reeve's speech on Wednesday was so drab and predictable that even the journalists at the press conference couldn't really be arsed to come up with any challenging questions.

    • I am keeping my fingers crossed the next few days are not so loud. I honestly think it is the private, back garden displays that are most problematic as, in general, there is no way of knowing when and where they might happen. For those letting off a few bangers in the garden I get it is tempting to think what's the harm in a few minutes of 'fun', but it is the absolute randomness of sudden bangs that can do irreparable damage to people and animals. With organised events that are well advertised there is some forewarning at least, and the hope is that organisers of such events can be persuaded to adopt and make a virtue of using only low noise displays in future.
