Thank goodness I live in the relatively peaceful backwater that is Peckham Rye!

When I get in from work and have taken my stab vest off, I do so love to log on to the EDF and see what mayhem is occuring in the East Dulwich 'hood.

Perhaps the BBC should commission a new docusoap ... East (Dulwich) Enders! Any takers?

I hope that everyone involved in this incident is ok.

Even being a witness to a violent incident can be traumatic.

I would not like to speculate what the catalyst or motive for this incident may have been, but am sure the Police will be thorough in their investigation.

Given the success of Barry Station Manager on this forum, would it not be a good idea for the Local police Station to adopt a similar stance and have a person who we can ask questions too and get some sort of reassuring response.

MinaBlue, the incident didn't take place on Worlingham.. When the guys were caught here, it wasn't like there was a big take-down with guns a-blazin'. Everything happened in a calm and civilized manner. This is (usually) a very calm street and you have nothing to worry about.

As an American, I find that often people seem to over-react to everything here, but maybe I'm just way too blas?.

They aren?t kids ????. they are maniac gangstaaassss!

They stopped being kids by about 10 these days, by that age they have seen heard and been involved in more than most over 40?s have.

Most of them are left at home alone whilst mum works 7 days a week some are looked after by the older sister / brother or granny or left at a friends house.

Usually Mum doesn?t have a man in her life let alone the father of the gangstaaaa.. If she even knew who he was.??

The gangstaaaaa have seen every kind of porn imaginable and every kind of sick depraved movie and listened to hours of nonsense gangstaaa rap.

At school they probably behaved like angels and learnt absolutely nothing which will be of any use in the real world.

They know at a very early age they will never be able to buy the bling Rolex or the Lamborghini.

They have been failed by their parents and by the education system doomed before they get to their teens.

The authorities and PC nonsense fail them by not stopping and searching them for knives.

I was in Paris a couple of months ago for one day and saw Police stopping and searching lots of youths on the metro probably 10 or so.

In all my time in London on the tube and in the hood I think I?ve seen two stop and searches?

Our Police are great when it?s all happened

But dealing with these poor sad sorry gangstaaas before they kill each other

They are sadly pathetic.

id like 2 point out i was not picking up on admins instructions as a silly request as i fully appreciate the damage and upset caused by incorrect infornation and rumours spread about can do - many of us have been on the recieving end. I just think perhaps it could have been said in a more relaxed and friendly way and considering most i stress most were posting sensible on the spot reports...tis all

A scary and sad post but unfortunately very true.

Yea a kid who a couple of minutes before was a gangstaaaaa ready to stab anyone who looked at him funny or disrespected him.

Even a 30 year old will look like a kid when they get stabbed.

I know I start going all glazy eyed and become a child when I cut my finger with a kitchen knife.

We all know these ?kids? have been failed miserably by our society.

We do them no favours by allowing them to strut around and carry weapons.

SOCO are roaming our street in plastic suits at the moment photographing the pavement.

We're not allowed to walk on the pavements in Matham Grove.

The detective doing the door to door said he wasn't getting much as most people were out.

We're taking the attitude that it could happen anywhere so aren't worrying much.

It must be worrying if you've got teenagers though.

To quote Ian Rankin (the crime writer), when a body was found in a wheelie bin round the corner from his house in Edinburgh:

"It's not the sort of thing you expect to happen round here!"

Surely these kids are known to their teachers in school and the school should be feeding back to parents any concerns and for that matter the police.

When children enter the secondary school system the school should have a partnership with the parent/parents ('every Child Matters)and should insist on parent feedback.

I can't imagine that any parent just doesn't care what their child is doing, and hasn't worried that they would get that knock on the door saying their child has been involved in an 'incident'

Unfortunately, I think the parents are half the problem.

    • I can't really comment on the general West/East/Village discussion.  It's all out of my price range, and like others I expect, we moved here when the area was much more affordable and dare I say much of it 'ordinary'.  But was thinking exactly the same as New Wave regards to SE23 as a place to live, and convenient for SE22 etc for visiting including buses and an easy cycle.  You have hills of course in Forest Hill but this adds to the charm (and from a lot of places the views). At the edge of Forest Hill you have the best pub in the country, the Blythe Hill Tavern.  Pubs can get better, and can get worse, as they do everywhere, including Forest Hill, but the Blythe is consistently great for the craic and the beer (no restaurant but the pizza van comes at weekends).
    • Forest Hill area around Manor Mount/Horniman gardens...Or Off of Honor Oak Rd good transport Links (Overground and Southern to London Bridge)  decent Bus Routes (P4 goes past Dulwich College and into the Village). Very easy to get to Crystal Palace park Horniman Gardens and museum on the doorstep Horniman Triangle kids playground Dulwich Woods and Dulwich Park and riding school in walking distance. A few decent pubs and again easy to go to Peckham, and ED for good resturants. A few excellent coffee shops where you can get lunch. Theres a brilliant Thai resturant (Matoom) and a very good Japanesese (Sushi Garden) and 2 family friendly pubs/bars that serve good food (The Signal and Sylvan Post). a fantastic butcher, a couple of Deli's and a Sainsbury for all the other 'stuff' There is also a local pool and small gym We've lived in this area (Near Horniman border of Lewisham and Southwark) for 13 years having moved from Notting Hill. It feels very safe and is family friendly..We were originally looking to buy in Dulwich but did'nt want a small victorian terrace we got more for our money here and have been very happy.
    • Indeed Alice, but the traffic illustrated and those affected by it really don't count; they are examples of necessary collateral damage in the council's fight for the 'greater good'.
    • One of the many, many beaches around the world you have flown to?
