I don't feel exploitation is necessarily the right description for what happened. I can see a parallel here with Princess Di's funeral service.... massive out-pouring of emotion, contentious 'sermons', music performed by great artists with revised lyrics... off-spring and other family members under the spotlight... we're not so different here, really. Add to this the obligatory US evangelical/showbiz element and that's what we saw last night.

slightly off topic but I think the media is ignoring the number of suicides by distraught fans. There was a tiny tiny article in the london lite (couldn't read it i was peering over someones shoulder so only saw the title). Found this but it seems to have been sort of ignored and I personally feel it's far more tragic than Michael dying.

I totaly agree that they must have been a bit 'not quite right' (npt that anyone is right/normal) i just think it's sad (especially for the families of the people who killed themselves) that it's kind of been swept under the carpet whereas the complete opposite can be said for the funeral of jacko.

I caught one minute of the whole vile performance, the last minute. I too feel sorry for her, very strange behaviour that a family who wanted "privacy" would then put a microphone to the poor child.

I watched some of it ( I quite liked Stevie Wonders' conribution). Was there any in-put from his parents? Obviously that are elderly now and the relationship with his father has been much talked about. Am I the only one who thinks perhaps his mother had a part to play in the person he bacame?

Seeing the grieving family on stage together just seemed somehow odd. A bit too 'stage managed', perhaps that's the real problem with the person lying in the silver cask.

My fave jacko story involves me telling a huge jacko fan from work who believed that jacko was innocent because he would never ever abuse kids, that that he should stick to sh*ggin chimps because they dont talk. I was just fed up with her going on and on and on abt his innocence, which was based on the fact that he could never do it because he loves children. she didnt speak to me for weeks- which was great.

Please Hugenot - remember the man did 'Thriller' (27 years ago).

Surely we can turn a blind eye to these paedophilic bits and bobs?

'As part of his trial he revealed that he lay on the bed with boys having got them drunk, and taught them to masturbate'.

Really? I never knew that .

Does a paedophile have to actually touch a child to be convicted? What about online child porn ?

So, if he was cleared, and they were right, he must have had the emotional maturity of a child which would indicate a personality disorder .

Thanks Jah Lush .

'They see the gentle Peter Pan who never grew-up and only feels happy in the company of innocence.

I see the fcuked-up grown man who has a stash of porn and gets a buzz out of teaching kids how to w*nk.' Bob, Yes, your right , so should he have been convicted for this ?

    • Ah sorry, it was comedy.
    • I have never used AI in my life. It's just notes from my forthcoming monograph on light industry in Dulwich and Camberwell 1879-1946 (dates chosen for obvious reasons).
    • Thank you, this really made me chuckle. It's like you met my brother as he would be the one taking more than his share. Plus the 'pikey' chutney is a winner. Unusual as in can't be identified??? Sadly I'm not the host otherwise I would definitely do that I regularly shop in the Cheese Block and am a fan. But as people have pointed out, there is no cheese shop that charges less based on bulk, so Aldi unusual cheeses may be what the familam receive! Yay, so I can get discounted mouse nibbled cheese still! Oooo, now I do love a Stinking Bishop. It actually offends my stepmum by it's stinkiness but luckily she is not one of the attendees at this particular gathering.  This is blooming genius. It's actually my partner who has the biggest issue with buying in plastic so I will have to hide the wrappers from him!
