In a similar fashion to who is the stig we will all search for the identity of this "chair" person. I will commence selling "I am the chair" t shirts and these will sell like hot cakes in Ed and its borders. The search will gather apace and journalists will be drawn to Ed from far and wide. This search will grab the imagination of a nation .... [ I don't expect this thread to be lounged as it is a very serious topic and should be treated as such].

Just experimenting alomg the lines of Amo,Amas,Amant,Amamus,Amatis etc...

Reminds me when I worked for Southwark Council Asylum at Diamond Road, Peckham and I asked if a particular Lady was "manning" the Office in the absence of her colleague.

OMG I got hauled in and told I SHOULD have said "personned" the Office.

"Staffed" I would have readily understood and that is what I should have said, no doubt but I was honestly told by Jean Kingsley, Social Sevices Manager that I should have said "personned" the Office....

Postscript: Just remembered that to make it even more "mental" I went back to the Lady and, with incredulity, told her what our Leader had said and her reaction was "and??"....realised it was either me or them who was on Planet Zog....probably me...

Oh dear Reggie. I wonder if this chair is going to be into a bit of tough love and bring us all into line.Admin was always a bit of old mr chips but this new chap, I'm not sure what to think.this rules out quids from the betting he's far too relaxed to play that cameo and id rule out bbw too he's too much of a maverick.we are narrowing this down- gradually.

Where does it say that all the topics in the drawing room have to be "serious"? As I understand it, it is for discussions that you want to have, without going off topic. I know the guitar discussion is a bit daft, but there are plenty of music people on here, and I am genuinely interested in opinions.

Next time I'll be a bit more "proper", and start a thread on brass Vs woodwind.

By the way, I am not the chair. I could have been, but I am too busy.

    • This week's edition of The Briefing Room I found really useful and impressively informative on the training aspect.  David Aaronovitch has come a long way since his University Challenge day. 😉  It's available to hear online or download as mp3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7wv In a few days time resident doctors -who used to be known as junior doctors - were meant to be going on strike. This would be the 14th strike by the doctors’ union since March 2023. The ostensible reason was pay but now the dispute may be over without more increases to salary levels. The Government has instead made an offer to do something about the other big issue for early career doctors - working conditions and specialist training places. David Aaronovitch and guests discuss what's going on and ask what the problem is with the way we in Britain train our doctors? Guests: Hugh Pym, BBC Health Editor Sir Andrew Goddard, Consultant Gastroenterologist Professor Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mark Dayan, Policy Analyst, Nuffield Trust. Presenter: David Aaronovitch Producers: Caroline Bayley, Kirsteen Knight, Cordelia Hemming Production Co-ordinator: Maria Ogundele Sound Engineers: Michael Regaard, Gareth Jones Editor: Richard Vadon
    • That was one that the BBC seem to have lost track of.  But they do still have quite a few. These are some in their 60s archive. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0028zp6
