Thanks all many reminders and a few newbies.

My reggae story - early 70s the older lads at school and mates older brothers all old school skinheads so an introduction via Ska...but then not really that much exposure (when I first heard the name Bob Marley i thought he'd be like Peter Frampton or Eric Clapton as it sounded a very english name!). A lot of reggae around during the punk thing but really I was exposed to dub reggae via blues party's in Leicster, where a really good mate went to uni and our incessant search for grass led us to some great blues parties - aways friendly despite us effectively looking like white football hooligans (wedges and Fred Perrys) - although of course we had to pay to get in and probably a bit extra for a can of lager. Loved reggae ever since

jah, one love

For me, Dr A is the biz.

Also Poison Flour.

His album Best Dressed... was a classic back in the 70s (a non-stop favourite on our turntable then), but the CD re-issue includes a bunch of extra marvels and is really worth getting. If you buy just one reggae album, this should be the one.

Too right Jah. As in my previous comment: Dub. I rest my case.

I was never much into the Lovers Rock thing. But the roots and the dub...

I've got it. Was playing it at ear splitting volume last weekend. Get the Born For A Purpose album too. Wicked!

@ Atila - U-Roy's Runaway Girl - Boss tune.

    • Certainly the infamous (and mythical) SE London cat killer turned out to be foxes attacking dying and dead cats injured by cars, but fox: cat encounters do appear to happen, even where cats are victorious. Fox: adult humans less so. At least where foxes are the aggressors.
    • That was very kind of you to take the cat to the vet. Did the car not stop?
    • This is a bit outside our area, but I'm posting in case .... Last night (Sat.20 Dec), around 10.30, we saw a cat hit by a car in St Norbert Road, SE4.  We took him to the out of hours vet in Beckenham, where they confirmed that he had died.  They will see if he is microchipped, and contact the owner if so.  They were very kind.   He was a lovely cat, grey and white.  He must have died very quickly.  So sorry to be the bearer of bad news 😞 The vet is Medivet in Beckenham, tel: 0208 650 2003.
    • Watching my cats over the years with foxes, I've found that foxes have totally ignored them. One exception was when a young fox hadn't seen my cat and found himself eye to eye with my cat at a distance of 1 metre. There was a stand off but the fox blinked first and my cat chased him out of the garden. So proud of her. I believe when foxes have attacked cats, the cat has been vulnerable  - old, young, ill wounded.
