You're telling porkies, innit (I hope :)) )

No seriously. I live up the top end of Whateley Road, near the corner with Crystal Palace Road. Heard some shouting outside my window and being the nosy person I am had a good look outside - saw an armed policeman running up Whateley Road and turn right into CPR (strangely enough he had a police flat cap on but was wearing normal clothes). This was too intriguing for words so kept looking out - few police officers standing on the corner of Whateley/Ulverscroft and then five mins later a uniformed armed policeman was standing outside my door (hence taking the rubbish down so I could be nosey!). He told me to go back inside, another five mins went by then the helicopter started hovering overhead and then another five mins (all times are approximate!) later two police cars with their sirens blaring rushed up Whateley but this time turned left onto CPR. Would love to know what was going on, I wasn't the only person to have noticed as people were walking down Whateley Road as the police were there and saw someone hanging out of their window when the helicopter was overhead. Felt like I was in the Bronx! Any further information would be much appreciated.

I live in Ulverscroft Road, I went out to the offie whilst the helicopter was around, I never heard a thing ....

Anyway enough of this, Rab C Nesbitt about to start on BBC2!

We were caught right in the middle of this on our way out to dinner. This was a CO19 operation and the suspect was apprehended on the corner of Landcroft Road and Rodwell Road. The suspect was a male and was shouting abuse as he was pinned down and watched over by approximately 6-7 plain clothed CO19 officers fully armed with machine guns. It looked like the helicopter was tracking him via infa red as no lights were being used. There were about 4 or 5 cars on the scene when he was arrested, but more were circling the immediate area in pursuit and to block access roads.

The whole thing seemed to be very professionally handled and was over very quickly. We just walked by on the other side of the road while the police did their thing.

Slightly freaked out, given our proximity to the location, but impressed with xone262's use of top notch cop jargon.

PS I googled CO19: http://www.met.police.uk/co19/

Ha, I was hoping this would appear on here.

I was watching Eastenders at home on Pallatt Rd when I heard lots of shouting, I went out my front door and was astonished to see several plain clothes officers, running past my gate all armed. They all had they same flat police style caps on. I heard them tell my neighbour opposite to 'go back inside'. They appeared to apprehend someone at the junctiion with Crystal Palace Rd, by the rear of the post office. There were about 4 unmarked police cars, but I could here their radios. They defo arrested someone as I saw him lying on the ground cuffed and they all DID have firearms. Shortly afterwards I heard a helicopter hovering overhead.

I think SO19 is the armed response unit of the MET Police

HONESTLY - it was all rather scary and exciting!

Oh come on, fess up, this is all a load of b******s, isn't it, a bit like the Eastern European brothel we were treated to a while back :))

Edited to say: The "HONESTLY" is a bit of a give away :))

Edited again to say: If it all turns out to be true I will slink away and hide in a hole for a few hours ......

I saw the arrest as xone262 described at the corner of Rodwell and Landcroft. But after about 20 minutes the suspect--who had been cuffed and held faced down with a gun pointed to his head all this time--was released. Obviously the wrong man. As you could imagine he wasn't too happy.

I think they were looking for a missing apostrophe. ;-)

    • What jab?  I had them many years ago to little or no effect.  I never went for the allergy testing where they jab you with various pollens to work out what sets you off.   Rely of tablets nowadays, so much better than the old days of piriton which sent me to sleep. June use to be hell from mid teens.
