Georgia, you do a great job of organising the drinks for not much thanks. For me, that is nothing to do with not wanting to go any more.

If you've had enough of the organising, you have more than done your fair share - maybe someone else's turn to take on the mantle of social secretary?

Yes, me too.

For what it's worth, Georgia...I really enjoy the drinks...and I admire the way you always remember to organise them with reserved areas and nibbles etc. I think you do a fabulous job. Fabulous!

Sure, they may not be the "be all and end all for any of us", but they are nevertheless great fun.

Yes course, but essentially they provide a great opportunity for new people to the area and the forum to meet up and make friends.

Well quite - but that comment is not meant as any reflection on anyone attending the drinks. I still think the forum drinks are an absolutely fantastic way of meeting new people and have played a huge part in making me feel settled and happy in East Dulwich.

And as others have said - Georgia, you'vve done a terrific job for a long time now - thank you.

I think that the EDF drinks are a brilliant idea and though I have not been able to make it to many of them since I joined the Forum, think it would be really sad if they petered out. I have had a great time on all of the occasions I have been (about 4-5 in total). Georgia does a really great job in bringing us together... don't lose heart Georgia... we love you AND the drinks

(would come tonight but am going to Bath so see some mates run in the half marathon...

personally I prefer watching than running, and if I am in a rush find a cab to be a much more elegant solution)

I have to say, i've only been to the evening in Black Cherry, as i'm new to the EDF. Georgia did a fantastic job in organising the area and getting the food sorted. I may make it tonight, but i'm heading straight out from work and don't know what state i'll be in by 8:30!!

Anyway, don't get disheartened Georgia and keep up the good work!

bee-limey. Just seen the posts since I mentioned I wasn't going tonight (not that my post had anything to do with what followed)

Some people have been going to drinks for many years and have been going less and less as time goes by - I imagine people who have become regulars in recent months will start to ration apperances in time as well - it's just way of the world innit. Certainly no reflection on Georgia's organisational skills - the very idea!!

I'm not going tonight but I fully expect to be going to the next one or soon after - have a good night everyone who is going (and if you haven't been and are thinking of going then do!)

Sadly I cant attend tonight, I am at a wedding.

The drinks are still relevant, they are a great way of new people meeting folks and engaging with East Dulwich. Friendships have been made through the Forum, romances kindles (even amongst some of the people that have said that they wont be coming to the drinks anymore!), some leading to marriage (see above).

I think it may well be that those of us who have been on the Forum for some time find that they dont go to every drinks as we may have done. We feel comfortable with our circle of friends and dont feel the need to socialise as we once did. There have been some spats and disagreements, of course. Inevitable when you bring a group of disparate people together and combine this with drink and high spirited discussion.

These arent reasons to stop the drinks, they might be amongst the reasons why the peope attending the drinks change, but that turn-over is healthy and to be welcomed. It reflects the way that ED society works.

ED's population enjoys a high churn rate, lots of new people coming in as others leave. There will always be a place for an opportunity to meet new friends, the Forum drinks provides once such opportunity.

Georgia has done sterling work in organising the drinks for a number of years and I can understand why she may feel a little weary at times, especially when the value of the drinks is questioned. Would anybody like to take over? If so, drop a PM to Georgia. Lets see how many PMs she gets ;-)

They?re always a good night. Can?t remember one that hasn?t been.

I only go once every 3 months or so but I always enjoy them. I would highly recommend going if you haven?t been before and are thinking about it. It?s nice to get to know the people you share your suburb with.

Can?t make this one though. I have an appointment with some retro Chinese and a pregnant lady.

Mucky x

accurate is an understatement!!!!

last time I went to the drink I was mumbling something vague about the number of times I had been (could not remember the figure)

and Mr MacGabhann swiftly announced the exact number of times I had attended... WHAT a memory the man must have!!!

Do you think he takes notes or something?????

Agree with Sue that Co- Op does not make for a pleasant shopping experience.  On the subject of Waitrose not coming to ED - one can only assume that market research has been done by the company which makes it a non starter which, when you think about it is strange as all the big contenders are here.. Perhaps the powers to be have never heard of ED!! Maybe a Lidl or Aldi will rear their heads but somehow can’t see it as space is way to small. Really is strange that Waitrose is a non arrival - never ceases to amaze me how many eateries are in Lordship Lane alone and the majority all survive.
