Blue toyota damaged by hire van outside the carpet shop
boosboss replied to Fuschia's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Well done for reporting it. (Maybe the driver of the hire van was the owner of the car too! :-S ) -
My nephew was diagnosed with dyspraxia and dyslexia in early childhood. During middle school he had catch-up tutoring due to being unable to keep up, handwriting being a big issue. At secondary school he was given a typing tablet for regular classes and attended SEN sessions to work on his handwriting etc. He's just finished his second year of a three year business degree at uni, has a part-time job and is generally enjoying student life. He doesn't let his condition stand in his way, just deals with it. It's not all 'sunshine and rainbows' though, he does sometimes shy away from things he finds difficult. We'd like him to drive, but after a few lessons he decided he didn't like driving and found it difficult, didn't need to drive at the moment and has put driving on the back burner. However, when he decides that it's something that he does need to do, he will. He was quite clumsy and heavy handed when he was younger and probably still is when he's not thinking. He does challenge himself with things as well, he's 6'4 and sporty. He's found boxing and the disciplines that come with training help with physical control elements. He's fortunate I guess, to have a very supportive family who view the conditions as conditions and not disabilities. :))

let's hear it for the Peckham Rye gardeners
boosboss replied to Huggers's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yep they do 'Polish the grass' for the judges! The gardeners and maintenance staff are great at Peckham Rye. Very friendly and approachable too, so don't be shy at telling them how much you appreciate their hard work. :)) -

Yeah, cos Colyton Road isn't residential! Marmora is as much of a through route as any!

They were fireworks, I saw them too! ;-) -
Was it really a fox in Hackney? Bill Oddie doesn't seem to suggest so! ;)

Not so, if they had parked with their wheels on the pavement further along the road where it is under 'Parks' the ticket couldn't have been issued by the warden as the road and pavement are out of their remit. However, there is no way of them knowing whether they are within the park or still on the public highway without being told. Also, seeing a long line of cars all parked with their wheels on the pavement understandably would make you assume, wrongly, that it is acceptable. The ticket was issued correctly, but the warden had the opportunity in this instance to do the decent thing and warn them. Yes it would have been easier not to have parked they way they did, but even easier if they hadn't stopped off at the park or stayed at home, etc etc.

Strakers Road is Highways to the service junction on the left as you go down it and Parks beyond that! Both the road and the pavement are in a dangerous condition. Highways views Strakers Road as non-priority and Parks have even used some of their budget to fix potholes at times. The pavement is hardly used for purpose as the shared cycle/pedestrian pavement is easier, smoother and more direct to the cafe, and park. Parking on the pavement is an offence, but in this case the warden could have very easily prevented the offence from happening by simply talking to the OP's parents. Issuing the ticket did nothing to prevent the obstruction, it was purely to penalise.

The bag needs to be clear. Apparently, the flies see a much bigger reflection of themselves and stay away. It's a common practice in Spain.

Probably not, they're not allowed in Peckham Rye. But you could call the council on 020 7525 2000 to check.

In my youth I had a part-time job in a restaurant. It was my job to carve joints at the tables of customers. I also served dessert (just to make my booboo clearer). One evening I was carving beef for a customer, with all the other guests watching me. When, with the meat on the plate, I lifted the gravy boat and asked the customer 'If he'd like some custard with it' The diners fell into fits of giggles and the rest of the silver service waiting staff had great difficulty controlling their spoons whilst trying to serve. I rushed off to the sanctuary of the kitchen with a very red face, knowing I'd have to face these people again at dessert. I did have to face them and they were gracious enough not to request gravy with their sweet! Oh the shame!! :-$

Blah, blah, blah.... So much hand wringing......... Is the bitterness now worth the struggles of the past?

I saw it a while back and thought it was a very powerful film. I did struggle to understand what Precious was saying much of the time, she seemed to mumble an awful lot! Still enjoyed it though.

No planes chopping them up! ;)

Agreed Milo! I don't agree with taking over a family home, preventing people living in their own homes, but leaving properties unoccupied whilst there're so many homeless and greedy landlords offering hovels at almost extortionate rents, then fair play to the squatters.

The welcome home I get from my dogs. :))
