  1. I think, as with most things, it's just a case of knowing, and watching your own child. We don't want our daughter sitting glued to telly for ages at a time, but I don't really think it will harm her. When she watches a bit, then loses interest and starts playing with a toy, that tells us it's all good. When she starts constantly asking for it, and trying to find the remotes, that tells us it's probably getting a bit much.
  2. I think it is very harsh to say Rafa wasn't up to the job of winning the prem. There was a load of backroom stuff going on, and he still came very close. Now the dust has settled, I think I am happioer that he has gone, mainly because I don't think he was that easy for the players to get on with. I do think he's a very good manager though, and I think people are unfair to claim he was bad for the club, or taking them backwards. He had a shocking season, but there were several reasons for that. Anyway, a good first weekend, and hopefully a good season ahead. Piers, yes it's probably a boring 2 horse race at the top, like Scotland, but I do think last year was interesting both at the bottom, and in the race for 4th.
  3. The Liverpool of old was 20+ years ago. The only thing this Liverpool has in common is the name, the colour, and Anfield. Same for any club obviously.
  4. I disagree, I think they'll do pretty well this season, and have quite high expectations. I didn't like it this time last year when lots of people were tipping them for the title. Too much pressure. Jah, the bookies had written them off. Before yesterdays match, you could get 16/1 for them, and that is the biggest price you'd have gotten for Liverpool at the beginning of the season for a long time.
  5. I was pleased with the pool yesterday, and they were unlucky to conceed a horrible goal, but I'd be more concerned if I was an Arsenal supporter. The Arsenal fans in the CPT were not a happy bunch. Liverpool controlled most of the second half, with 10 men. Real shame for Cole, who is not a dirty player, but that was a red, no doubt. It wasn't malicious, but it was a shocking challenge. Hopefully he'll come back strong. Anyway, I take heart form that performance (which basically should have been a win), and quite like the fact everyone has totally written the pool off. Now the reds can just get on with it, and see how the season works out. Spurs and City have a lot more pressure on them right now.
  6. Nice to see the personal baitig has already started. Same old sh!t.
  7. Ah, congrats Tillie Jnr. :)-D
  8. On Film 4 next Weds (I think) at 9.
  9. You should have gotten 2 bottles of wine! Congrats! :)-D
  10. I have to disagree, I'd say "middl;e ground" pretty much sums up the streets where I live. (Sydenham Park / Sydenham Park Road).
  11. Jah Lush Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > 2/10 Hasty. 7.5/10 I'd say.
  12. Your morale is fragile... Like china in your hand! I've said several times that Sydenham has some lovely housing, the likes of which you won't find in Dulwich. This is because it was once rather grand (about 100 years ago), whilst ED was a place for the plebs. These days, most of those lovely big houses, are divided in to flats. In some areas, Sydenham residents look longingly at Dulwich (although they'd never admit it). When I first came across the Sydenham forum, it was a thread called something like "Middle class pub", in which several posters complained that they didn't have somewhere nice to go in their lovely area, unlike down in ED. On the other hand, there arew things about Sydenham that are great. I always say I am happy where I am, as I have all the good stuff about ED a 10 minute journey away, but I really like the feel of where I live. You've just described ED, Sydenham, Forest Hill, Brockley, Camberwell, Honor Oak, Lee, Greenwich, Blackheath... so on, and so on.
  13. We did the whole In the night garden thing from a few months. But our daughter has never really gone for the whole routine thing, so it diodn't do us much good. These days, we tend to stick it on for a short time in the mornings, so we can run and clean our teeth and get ready. It does get addictive though, and she sometimes goes in search of the remote, and moans if we say no, so we had to avoid it for a while as we didn't want her sitting staring at it. I think it is handy for short periods, but you need to keep an eye on it. I do love The Hoobs on early morning Channel 4 though!
  14. My first thought was pretty much what Anna said. At one time I'd have probably been pleased enough, but not now.
  15. Ha ha, cross posted with Jeremy.
  16. Visitors from Sydenham Town Forum, who are taking Louisa far too seriously, and who really love "sydders" (WTF?!?) a bit more than a person should love an area. That said, there are a few of those in ED too. And to think people wrote this thread off very early. Good effort Louisa, took a bit of time to mature, but it got there in the end :)-D Would none of these people eat fried chicken then?
  17. Don't apologise to The OP, she won't mind. The last incarnation had a good Polish cook, who IMO did a lovely tasty roast, but couldn't do deserts to save her life. You may be right, it doesn't know quite what it wants to be. I worry though, that it just wouldn't get enough trade whichever route it chose. Personally, I quite like somewhere in the middle. I want somewhere I can watch the footy, without feeling like I might get beaten up. But I don't really enjoy the whole gastro thing, I just like a Sunday roast when I can't be bothered cooking,or going to my mum's in Dulwich.
  18. Well I disagree about the food inThe Dolphin, but agree about the Wood House, and The Dog. Best roast I had in Sydenham, was the Woodman (R.I.P.)
  19. The fact I'm a keyworker, and know a fair bit about the schemes, and the fact I am good friends with an architect who works on keyworker buildings, including the one in Greenwich that I'm talking about. I don't just type things because I think them.
  20. - Your friend died screaming like a stuck Irish pig. *Throws off the roof* - Did it sound anything like that? Once again, Cool! :)-D
  21. Agreed.
  22. Don't Look Now.
  23. >:D< I love that film! Good call.
  24. Generally I'm liking the big up for Sydenham. BUT! Please don't tell me you're talking about The Dolphin? It's not even as good as it's sister pub The Dartmouth Arms. Very disappointing food. (and the Sydenham forum would prove that I'm not alone in thinking that).
  25. GinaG3, just read your post, and yours is exactly the sort of situation that people shouldn't find themselves in.
