  1. Happy birthday indeed. Is it me or does this thread just go round in circles? I can't quite put my finger on it but have an uneasy sense of d?j? vu. Weird.
  2. But there are heroes - they walk among us. They wear their pants on the inside of their clothes (is that what's confusing you RosieH?). They are everyday people that make life more special for the rest of us. If we're doing music then I'm going with the Foo Fighters - "My Hero". I can't post a You Tube link because I'm at work - someone help me out. I really like the song because it is about ordinary people. John McCain used it in 2008 - ouch - Dave Grohl was not a happy man. Edited because I just googled the song and found this: Republican nominee John McCain used this song during the 2008 US presidential campaign. When the Foo Fighters learned through news reports that this was happening, they denounced his use of the track. The band said in a statement: "The saddest thing about this is that 'My Hero' was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential. To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song." The Republicans replied that they had obtained and paid for licenses from performing rights organizations to play this song, along with millions of others.
  3. PeckhamRose that was most eloquent. I salute you. Px
  4. Dear God PGC, stop with the red wine. I am begging you. Please.
  5. Would you stand up for him Brenda? He's an OAP.
  6. Members' booking opened today for both the National Theatre and the Donmar Warehouse. At the National, public booking opens next week I think and you'll have to be very quick if you want to see the new Alan Bennett play as it will sell out in the first day or so. That's "The Habit of Art". Also booking is "The White Guard" and that will have Cate Blanchett (I don't know whether that's been announced or not) so will sell very quickly. If you want to see either of these plays then book next week as soon as they go on sale. Cate Blanchett is marvellous by the way - I saw her in Plenty about 10 years ago in the West End - mesmerising actress. The Donmar's programme is on sale to members today (do join - it's the best theatre in London) - that will go to public booking in a month but there's never very much left by then. Phone 020 7845 5815 to ask about membership.
  7. Well it's a matter of good manners isn't it PK. You don't sit whilst an old person or a disabled person is standing and you don't put a small child on a seat in a crowded bus when the child could easily sit on your lap. If you got on the bus carrying a tired toddler then I hope someone would stand an offer you a seat. It's just basic good manners.
  8. What bothers me more is a child taking up a seat and not siting on its parent's knees when the bus is full.
  9. If there were to be a general election tomorrow I would have no idea what to do with my vote. I've always voted labour; but not any more. I would rather leave the country than vote tory. If that guy from the Monster Raving Loony Party hadn't gone and topped himself I think he could be a serious contender next time up - he'd definitely get my vote.
  10. And all is calm and quiet this Sunday morning in Munchkin Land
  11. For me, the very best thing about the ED forum (when it's on top form) is that there are people who come on here and post things that in a million years I wouldn't agree with but they argue so well that they at least have my ear. For the same reason, it's why those who want to subvert the forum incur my anger. Very sad to see C4 producing drivel like this.
  12. I'm so busted - red shoes are my favourites. How can anyone not love red shoes! Unfortunately I stubbed my toe today on the way to the gym so I'm hobbling around and my footwear this evening is aesthetically challenged to say the least.

Yes it was difficult viewing but I didn't think it was well made - I thought that it was scraping the bottom of the barrel for C4. There was no point in the programme that I felt I was being challenged and was being shown things from a different perspective that I didn't necessarily agree with but nevertheless had merit. For me it was as challenging as reading the Daily Mail.
  14. Dear Lord I think my house might have blowed away. I'm scared to open the front door in case I see the yellow brick road. Is there anyone alive out there ED?

    Great Gigs

Absolutely Keef. Complete W@nker. Mind you, I wouldn't pay ?125 to see the Beatles. I liked George though.

    Great Gigs

The staff at O2 (and at indigo2) can be quite unnecessarily nasty with the punters. I've been in the standing area quite a few times and I've seen some incidents that just shouldn't have happened. Someone should have a word and tell them that the punters are paying a lot of money to have a good night out so don't be so heavy handed. It's very expensive to go to gigs these days and booking fees are way OTT. Drinks at the O2 are very expensive. The food is expensive too but I don't eat fast food (unless I'm very drunk) so that doesn't bother me. They don't let you take your own food or drink in and take it off you at the entrance. Try telling them that your diabetic - I do this all the time and they just wave you in. The sound isn't brilliant and there's no atmosphere. I've never been up on level 4 but I do feel sorry for the people that end up there - they look like they wish they had stayed home. Artists are greedy too - Paul McCartney charging ?125 for some level 4 seats - they are really crappy seats and you'd think with all his money that he would give his fans a break. He can stick the frog's chorus where the sun don't shine as far as I'm concerned. The best that can be said about the O2 is that it's a piece of cake to get to from ED. Jah's right - the Roundhouse is the best in London.

  24. It would not surprise me at all if he ate babies for brunch. He is deeply, deeply, scary.

The force that through the green fuse drives the flower. Yes? Please say yes because my parents would be so pleased that a very expensive heducation was not entirely lost.
