  3. Moos Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > giggirl, why Fake Plastic Trees? I'm intreegued. For some reason I've got it into my head that it was directed at, amongst other things (relationships, obviously) living in London. Can't remember why I think that - I must have read it somewhere. Px
  4. I watched this programme on my laptop last night via the link in Keef's post. There's an hour of my life that I won't get back. It was vile; absolutely vile. The only thing that kept me watching was the belief that sooner or later a point would be made. What on earth was the agenda of the filmmakers? Are they trying to tell us that the death penalty is a good thing and we should open the debate again? Is that what it was about? As far as I'm concerned it was real "lowest common denominator" TV. Ann Widdecombe and Gary Bushell FFS. Oh, and Miranda Sawyer - you should be ashamed of yourself - there goes your credibility. If Channel 4 want to open a genuine debate about the death penalty (or anything else) then let them do it in an intelligent way, without the use of shock tactics, sensationalism and pompous vox-pops. If this is the sort of tosh being broadcast then thank God I don't have a TV. Disgusted of Dulwich p.s. The actor who played Glitter was very good though. p.p.s. In the ad break there were some ads for BT - those actors must surely win awards for being the smuggest people on TV. Who the heck is casting these people?
  5. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" - mentions the Chelsea Drug Store - is that London or NYC - I love the song though so I'd put it in - Rolling Stones
  6. Guns of Brixton - The Clash I Live in Camberwell - Basement Jaxx Down the Tube Station at Midnight - The Jam Memory of a Free Festival - Bowie Wild West End - Dire Straits (I really like this song - but it's a big blast from the past) 59 Lyndhurst Grove / Mile End - Pulp (I had to look this up - it's in Peckham) Electric Avenue - Eddie Grant (about Brixton)Do the Strand - Roxy Music Waterloo Sunset - Kinks (one of the songs I most hum along to in my head) King's Cross / West End Girls - Pet Shop Boys Brompton Oratory - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead (wankers) Chelsea Girls - Nico (more likely to be about NYC but I really like this version anyway) Only Living Boy in New Cross - Carter God Save the Queen - Sex Pistols (stretching a point I know - the Queen lives in London) Warwick Avenue - Duffy Misty Morning Albert Bridge / Rainy Night in Soho - Pogues Up The Junction - Squeeze London Pride - Noel Coward (don't laugh - I've got a great version of this you can borrow if you want) LDN - Lilly Allen (annoying woman) The Stones must have done SOMETHING - where's Jah? Ditto the Who
  7. Foo Fighters' cover of Baker Street
  8. Rosie I don't want to judge you honey but you're making it really hard. YOU NEED TO GO TO THE SHOP YOU LAZY SO AND SO. Alternatively, if you're anywhere near Silvester Road PM me and I'll sort you out.
  9. It's the glass ceiling of ED

  11. Ah it's a first person shooter. Codswallop. Last one of these I played was Doom.
  12. Have you tried Moxons?
  13. I'm shortly planning to return to Berlin. I think now is an interesting time to go. The wall coming down 20 years ago was a momentous event of course, but I think it takes 20 years for the dust to settle on any momentous event and for the history books to be written. I don't think it would have been possible to make a film like "The Lives of Others" even 10 years ago. The Stasi were so feared and then, after German unification, so demonised. It's an extremely well written and executed film and it made me cry buckets at the end. Interestingly, the East German actor who plays the lead Stasi officer, was himself "watched" by the Stasi before the fall of the GDR. When his files became public he was able to see which of his colleagues were Stasi spies monitoring him. Allegedly his own wife was a stasi spy. How heartbreaking is that? Also, he started out as a construction worker and had himself helped to build the wall. It's interesting stuff. On a shallower note, I think I'll stay here when I go: http://www.schlosshotelberlin.com/?page_id=169&parent_id=169
  14. Here's a credit crunch tip - open a Quidco account and do all your regular shopping via there. http://www.quidco.com/ It literally is, in the imortal words of Dire Straits, "MONEY FOR NOTHING". I use it for everyting and I get hundreds of ???? back every year (?440 already this year). Honestly, money for nothing. They retain ?5 of your earnings every year to run the site but other than that you get a percentage back of all you spend. And they don't allow any advertising on the site - which is brilliant. Here's how it works - the etailers sign up to Quidco. If you want to buy anything from that etailer then you go to Quidco, log in, find the link to that etailer, and then shop normally on that etailer's site. Quidco is sent a percentage of your spend and they pass some/all of this on to you. The money really mounts up quickly so well worth doing. Mostly I use it for booking Eurostar, booking travel with Expedia and buying CDs. Bravissimo has recently stopped it's association with Quidco - which is a pain! All Saints, however, gives 10% cash-back and free shipping. Nice - I love All Saints. Try it.
  15. Go to the video shop and get hold of a copy of "The Lives Of Others" before the weekend. It's a real must see. I have a copy so PM me if you want to borrow it. I loved the Checkpoint Charlie Museum http://www.mauer-museum.com/ The Reichstag is a must but be prepared to queue http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichstag_building
  16. Do you think it will be put on the Channel4 catch-up site? Hope it is - really want to see this. It is strange that they've chosen someone who is still alive. I wonder if they would have chosen someone who had the finances to take legal action? I wonder if he (Paul Gadd) has seen it? Weired.
  17. No no no - terrible idea - don't tell lies
  18. Huguenot - we've never met but you sound so thoroughly decent I had a tear in my eye reading your post. Who would play you in EDF the movie? I'm thinking a young Gregory Peck (Atticus Finch of course).
  19. Rosie - you say you have proof? Have you spoken with her? You still need to give her a chance to explain. There really could be a good explanation and it could be a simple misunderstanding. For now keep your feelings hidden and send her an email. If she doesn't have a decent explanation then she's not worthy to be your friend and you should dump the bitch. If it's a mix up at the restaurant then fine, let it go and give her another chance. No other explanation is acceptable - I don't care if she's hard up, can't pay the rent or whatever - this behaviour crosses a line. Then go twitter about it.
  20. Rosie - reading your post made me feel very sad. This person is NOT your friend. Send her a carefully worded email giving her the chance to explain herself (but it had better be good). She's not your friend and life is way too short to waste time on someone who will (a) lie to your face (b) take hard earned cash from your pocket. Friends do not behave this way.

  23. I failed my test by "agressively forcing my way out into oncoming traffic" trying to get out of the test centre car park.
  24. It is spam and it is rude because she's posted everywhere. If she'd posted in the right section I might actually be interested enough to look at her website. But coming on here especially to post her services all over the gaff is just rude and isn't likely to win friends and influence people.
