Moped mugging on East Dulwich Road by Goose Green
Sue replied to mcj_1985's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Since seeing this and similar posts on here I've become really aware of mopeds and scooters driving around the back roads especially :( Is their M.O. generally to snatch your mobile out of your hand then immediately drive off? Because if so that might be slightly easier to avoid than a confrontational mugging? I've never been worried walking round here, but I've definitely recently got warier :( -
Surely if everyone goes down there picking the herbs, there will be nothing left for others to enjoy? Surely a community garden of this kind is to look at, not to strip the the plants??

Very very sorry to hear that.

Royal Mail Sorting Office Closure Meeting..
Sue replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I thought the parking mentioned at the meeting was referring to the staff's own cars (they can drive to work and park in Sylvester Road, but won't be able to in Peckham). I don't recall that there was any mention at all of lack of parking for Royal Mail vehicles. -
Thanks for posting. I found it interesting, so I expect other people will too.

Moped mugging on East Dulwich Road by Goose Green
Sue replied to mcj_1985's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So the pavement outside the railings at the green's boundary? I walk on Goose Green a lot, so obviously this is worrying, but slightly less worrying than if they were taking mopeds onto the green itself. -

Sorry to hear this. Was that actually on Goose Green itself, ie on the path, or on the road/pavement adjoining it? -

It doesn't address the distance issue or lack of parking for ED customers at all, does it? Yes they are consulting the unions but the feeling I got from the UCW rep at the meeting was that many of the posties are not that bothered about moving to Peckham, because the working conditions in the Sylvester Road building are so bad. What I would like to know is what if any other options they are actually considering. But I haven't written to her yet :( -
Amac thanks so much for this thread. We went to Shoreham on the train on Sunday and did the circular walk. Bluebells, fantastic views, great ale at the George Inn - Old Peculier on draught- and a fantastic roast lunch for just under a tenner! Then we wandered round the village and saw Samuel Palmer's house etc. We had a lovely walk and a lovely day and we will deffo try out the other walks! ETA: And the bluebells were proper bluebells, not those big Spanish (?) things :)

Not just in East Dulwich. We walked to the Square and Compass in Worth Matravers (Dorset) a week or so back, with family, including kids. Just off the cliff path. Lovely old pub with a hatch for a bar, a strange fossil museum attached, and equally lovely green space in front for the kids to run about and the adults to sit and drink ale and eat pasties. Except - the grass was full of dog sh*t. All over the place. Due to the many many dogs, with owners who clearly weren't watching what their dogs were doing. Literally. No bin for said sh*t. Parents trying to keep their kids from running/walking/crawling in said sh*t. Which reminds me, I meant to write to the pub. Yes the dog owners are to blame, but surely the pub could at least provide a bin and maybe bags? It was disgusting. -

Royal Mail Sorting Office Closure Meeting..
Sue replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
To be fair, if they are sometimes having to sort post outside because the building cannot cope with the increased volume, then regardless of asset stripping, it is unfit for purpose. So if it cannot be made fit for purpose, which we do not know, then from most ED residents' point of view it would be better to sell or let it and relocate elsewhere in ED than to relocate to the existing building in Peckham. -

The issue with the listing doesn't address the fact that the building isn't fit for its present purpose. Would it not be better for Royal Mail to look (assuming they haven't done, which we don't know) at moving the ED delivery office to more suitable premises elsewhere in ED, for example as was suggested at the meeting, to an appropriately sized module (?) on an industrial estate? -

Both letters to the CEO and letters via or copying in an MP would be dealt with much more quickly than letters to people lower down the line. And yes senior managers would have to be involved in something going out in the CEO's name and signed by her, unless it was a standard response, which I can't think this would be. -

Many moons ago I used to write replies like that for Royal Mail. Your letter will get passed to someone like me to investigate, liaise with the appropriate people and draft a reply for the CEO 😀 but yes it will get dealt with quickly because you have gone to the top. I intend to write to her too, let's hope if there's enough pressure we can at least persuade them to look at other options, eh. -
red devil Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Try and get some plants that are evergreen to > provide all year round greenery, again ferns are > good for this. Not all ferns are evergreen, so make sure you get ones which are (and suit your conditions) if you want them to be green through the winter! Climbers are lovely to give you height and to clothe fences etc and many are suitable for containers. Don't plant anything too vigorous near the house though! Many climbers are scented. If you plant perennials in pots they will mostly be dormant in winter, but be aware they are hopefully still living beneath the compost, so don't excavate huge holes to plant other things on top :)
