  1. Loads of space for us ... and those wonderful electric cars that we won't be able to hear coming :-S

Please don't do that *Bob*, you contribute a lot to the forum. Not wishing to insult anyone for starting a thread (of course its up to you and people can ignore ones they don't like) but.... I do think there was a collective groan to see yet another thread on a variation of 'change a letter'. I'm sure the response would be the same if someone started an equally similar thread on football or computer games, for example. I know that you can ignore threads but imagine what the Lounge would be like if the majority of subjects were of repetitive stuff eg. 5 threads about football, 4 wordgames and 3 on golf and the same people posting on them intermittently. I don't think that anything else would have much of a chance to evolve if that were the case (in my opinion anyway).

Frankito is NEW around here, you hear that??? NEW!!!! (But out of interest, who'd be the likely candidate for previous incarnation?) PS Quids, we'd never stereotype you. PPS my biggest regret is not realising I would use this forum so much, registering as an unimaginative, personal username and for being too diplomatic in my responses to those that are clearly talking bullsh1t on a subject they have only a vague understanding (argh, being too polite again!) and finally missing the BBW era and now missing some posters who were there when I joined and sadly no longer post (CharlieCharlies pictures were amazing).
  5. Dear Nette, Admit it, you've already gone and dunnit! You've bought those front seat tickets, haven't you? Yours in shock, katie
  6. LLM - taste is lovely but I do prefer the paler, delicate colour. Will use only lemons next time I think. Going to attempt a gooseberry and elderflower sorbet. Mmmm. Anyone tried making lavender jelly? (Not for a dessert, more like a chilli jelly)
  7. Dulwich DIY and AJ Farmer on LL both sell those tall, clear bottles with rubber rings and plastic corks attached to a wire/spring type thing (whatever its technically called, I dunno). Also, why didn't anyone warn me not to use golden caster sugar when making the cordial? Doesn't harm the taste but it looks a bit like, erm, you know. Or do the oranges and lemons make it that colour anyway? Edited as the corks aren't rubber but they have these rubber disk things.
  8. So you don't really have a pair of great tits* after all, Nette? Who'd have thought it? *in your garden
  9. Tsk tsk, dear Ms Curtain. Only the best seats have gone? So go grab yourself a slightly inferior seat and enjoy, leave the ones at the front for those who are more unfortunate than you.
  10. *Bob* stop waffling and get yourself out a bit more. To Nunhead, apparently.

Maybe all those serious NHFers are out partying .... in ED :)-D

(I'm eagerly awaiting the witty comments from the others, what part are you playing?) :)
  15. Is it just me or have there been a lot of ED-specific threads moved to the Lounge lately? What's going on? Are the titles unclear or has the criteria for posting in that section changed? I know its supposed to be strictly about ED but the posts I have seen in the Lounge do seem to be about ED :-S

  17. "inconsistency"? Changeable, yes. Variable, yes. Inconsistent, nah. The correct terminology is lateral heterogeneity. JohnK - someone has suggested you contact BGS which is what I would recommend too, all their maps are online now. I have also PMd you about someone who knows quite a bit about London's geology who may be able to help. Good luck with your project. PS Here's a favourite of mine from the great, VC Illing, 1919. "Geology is not an exact science. The personal factor looms so large in many of its problems that he must needs be hardy who dares to be positive, and inexperienced who considers his verdict the final solution."
  18. Get a sharp knife, slice some oranges and limes. Throw the limes in a tall glass, add crushed ice, top up with soda water. Drink immediately and then eat the sliced oranges. Lie down, naked, in a darkened room with the window open. Sleep. You'll need someone to wake you up a bit later with a hot mug of strong tea and a good quality bacon sandwich. (Don't fret if you've run out of sourdough, it will only add to your headache). Hair of the dog is the way forward if the hangover is particularly bad but don't order the same drink as the one you had the previous night. Finally, make sure that you don't have anything important, hah, like work, to do the next day because then you're fucked.

    Slutwalk

Has anyone been on jury service for a rape case? A very long time ago I was and in that particular case, it was impossible to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the accused did it. The woman and her ex-husband (both admitted that they occasionally had consensual sex) had the minutiae of their lives thrown up before court for all to hear. It was harrowing seeing them together in court (knowing how difficult that must be for them), hearing all private details, from what they'd had to drink, even what brand of vodka did they normally buy, what they were wearing, why did they still see each other, why did she still have sex with him, whether they really did have an argument and she changed her mind or not, were the bruises because he had forced her, doctors reports and so on. I can't imagine why anyone would go through all that if it wasn't true but only one jury member disagreed that this man could not be convicted because the evidence presented did not add up to proof beyond reasonable doubt. I don't really know what I'm trying to say here except it still haunts me to think of them and I feel we were never really able to know the full truth of what happened that night. Sometimes I think, he must have done it and other times I think but what if he didn't...and then back to, if he did.
  20. You're confusing me now Mr Medic. Kindly stay on topic please. This thread is supposed to be about cats. Thank you.
  21. Must be incredibly frustrating when forum users insist on using one of your previous incarnations, I'm sure you'd agree.
  22. Er, Alan, Mr Medic. Don't you mean that this is for huncamunca?
  23. I'm moving to a remote island off the Outer Hebrides. Can I join please?
  24. Its considered to be very unlucky to get married in May (in Scotland). I never, ever, have daffodils indoors as my mum (and her mum) considered that to be very unlucky. I hate it if I see them in a vase anywhere now, probably as I'm now scarred for life after the Incident When I Picked Daffodils and wasn't allowed to take them indoors.
  25. PS Mick Mac is fab (tu)
