  1. Sorry I should be more specific - I am making a chocolate sponge, a mint sponge and an orange sponge - so after a plain sponge recipe that comes out lovely and moist, but can be adapted to add the flavourings I require. I have had a browse on the web but there's variations in the recipes (no of eggs etc) and I was wondering if any EDFers had a tried and tested foolproof recipe :) ETA - that cake does look yum though, may have to try it another time :)
  2. Bakers of East Dulwich!! I am after a tried and tested spongecake recipe that will fill a 26cm cake tin, and can be modified to make it different flavours (such as mint or orange)....I want it moist and airy and perfect!!! Any hints or tips? I have seen a hummingbird bakery cupcake mix, but I didn't know if I could translate that to a big tin. Thanks!
  3. I am so tight I won't even spend 8 quid unless I know it's worth it :)
  4. Hello, I was wondering if anyone's used one of these before and if they work? I want to sew up some felt toys and don't want to splurge on a sewing machine if these would do the trick. Thanks http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MINI-PORTABLE-CORDLESS-HAND-HELD-CLOTHES-SEWING-MACHINE-/220721592835?pt=UK_CraftsCollect_SewingMachines_RL&hash=item3364083a03#ht_1345wt_1185
  5. the pub quiz I did at the EDT was incredibly hard with really obscure questions...needless to say we didn't go back (we're bad losers!!!) :) i would like to see reasonably priced food (ie not a tenner for a burger....!!!)
  6. regards to pub quizzes - I used to go to a very successful on a Wednesday night in my home town, the pub would be packed out with regular teams, everyone made a night of it and bought drinks and dinner there so they made lots of money. the key was the questions weren't too difficult or too easy, interesting rounds, a free raffle whereby you won a box of chocolates and it didn't end too late for a school night. plus a decent quiz master - fair, not too serious but also not over the top and thought he was the star of the show.
  7. Correct me if I am wrong but aren't the Olympics all about doing it for your country as you're winning medals for the country that wins the most? And if you call them british then it doesn't include the Scottish, welsh and northern Irish also competing for the great Britain team?
  8. Well I didn't expect any additional money, however several of my colleagues have all asked 'oh are you going to get any more money' so that got me thinking. I was happy with the extra experience, but I didn't know (because of my colleagues asking) if that was the 'done' thing for companies to pay an incentive for maternity cover. I will be covering her role entirely, moving into another office and reporting in to her boss, and I am assuming they're going to get a temp in to cover my role (though this hasn't been dicsussed - as usual I expect they'll leave it to the last minute)
  9. Hi there I have been asked to do maternity cover for someone who's senior than me. I have said yes as it'll be a good experience, but I was wondering what the etiquette is regarding salary? The lady I am covering for is on substantially more than I am, but I don't know if it's general practice I will be given a rise or a bonus for the time I am covering. Has anyone else been in this situation? Thanks
  10. Hi Treacle, people go round door to door selling dusters and cleaning products, they do it for charity, so it was probably that.
  11. Northern lights trilogy by Philip Pullman, my favourite book ever
  12. torch just went down southwark street and traffic was held on red traffic lights for about half an hour, so i think there will almost definitely be an impact!

Made the mistake of going there on opening night last night, didn't expect it to be so busy! Queues to get in do we gave up and went to bar story, also rammed so we tried Montpellier, also rammed! Felt like we were in Shoreditch with all the hipsters milling about, who knew peckhcm was so trendy. Does anyone know if you can go up to franks (well the top floor of the carpark) during the daytime? I would like to see the view. Thanks

  16. I am pretty sure the other week I saw what looked like a homeless lady doing a wee/poo outside of there.....I am hoping it was a wee as that's slightly less offensive!
  17. another vote for kuki for me!!!! had a cut with Pauline and she explained how my hair had been cut previously and suggested new styles and i love what i have got now. thanks :)
  18. Good pint Worker - and if only the cars would realise it's still a pedestrian crossing - seems that they're more fussed with beating the traffic lights than stopping for pedestrians
  19. Sorry to hear that Bruce. I noticed our front door yesterday looks like it has been tampered with by a would be thief - it looks like someone has tried to pry open the door with a crow bar as there's cracks in the paint and wood where the frame meets the door. scary stuff!
  20. maybe the person who left the note i posted a picture of stating that they know who the perpetrator is could let us know on the forum?
  21. update: props to the person leaving this note, wonder if it'll help...maybe they should get a photo of the driver and stick it up there too
