  1. And take food with you. Lots of food! Good luck.
  2. I think they're both a bit too young. You don't want to spoil it for them or waste your money. Maybe wait until they've both read (and understood) the books? We go to The Polka theatre in Wimbledon quite a bit. They'll have plays that are age appropriate (and much cheaper than the big shows).
  3. Not ED sadly but n recommend Six Physio (tube: Monument).
  4. I'm sorry you are in this situation. Not advising you to back down or give up on this job but would just like to add that writing and sending your CV can be incredibly liberating, alleviate the stress and make you stronger in your current position. Good luck.
  5. A lot of cats are unhappy indoors. But some are ok with it, some have become used to it. Much easier to tell when the cats are adults. As for costs, you need to account for food (we spend roughly ?15-20 a month) and litter (?15 a month). Then there are the visits to the vets, initial vaccinations and boosters (Around ?40 a visit) and pet insurance (?15 a month)... This link might help: http://www.petwebsite.co.uk/cats/buying-a-cat/the-cost-of-keeping-a-cat Call the Celia Hammond Trust, they'll be able to advise you further.
  6. I'd report to the police and social services.
  7. There are chance places available. A friend of mine got one. No idea if it's a regular occurrence. For pick ups and drop offs, working parents have nannies or childminders (including school staff in the early years if school allows it.) Some schools also do breakfast clubs and most do after school clubs. It's not easy. We were at Ducks for a year and hubby was always late for work... We're now at the state school opposite our house and it's so much easier.
  8. Do we know if distances are calculated in a straight line? Thank you.
  9. The latest Ofsted for Deptford Green assessed the school as requiring improvement and mentions low level disruption in class as a problem. It's reassuring to know that some people have a good experience there but not surprising people don't want to put it on their list.
  10. My daughter, 7, is starting to ask questions about how babies are made. I looked online for an age appropriate book but would love some advice from the Forum. Thank you in advance for your help and advice.
  11. I know it's very much a first world problem but I need a good reliable cleaner. Recently I've had people taking the money and leaving without cleaning (while hubby was at home), people rushing through the job and breaking things as a result, leaving the house half cleaned... I need someone who is meticulous and someone I can trust. Thank you!
  12. I noticed some rather severe subsidence - not so much on the main building but the one adjacent to it.
  13. Agree with everything, Woodstock. Good luck.
  14. We had the 360 nipper as it was the only thing I could push without hurting my back. Initially hated the look of three wheelers and refused to get one when pregnant but after a few months of having my daughter they were all I wanted. Start with a cheap pram (second hand Pliko prammette from Mammas and Pappas for example) and see what you feel like afterwards.

  16. Nannies really make your life easier - no need to get child up in the morning, push a pushchair in the rain or the cold before or after a day at work. And, as others have mentioned, they'll provide your child with lots of one to one attention. I couldn't afford it unfortunately. We went for a nursery instead and it's been great and made her very sociable. I was lucky my daughter was hardly ever ill but this could have been a problem as nurseries (like schools) don't take kids for two days after a vomiting episode for example. Something to bear in mind. On the negative side, I noticed her speech would develop very quickly when she spent a week with us when we were on holiday so I do think nursery wasn't a great place for her to learn to speak (too much going on, too much noise). Fast forward to year 3 and she's a very articulate little girl. My advice when it comes to childcare is always not to set your heart on a specific solution. Go with the best person(s) you meet at the time -- whether they work in a nursery, or as a nanny or childminder. When I walked into her rather shabby nursery and saw the smiles on the ladies'faces, I knew this was the place.
  17. When we email our school's office they don't acknowledge safe receipt but we know from experience the email will be read and acted upon. I have in the past sent emails to the office earmarked for the attention of the headmaster and got a response from him within 10mns -- very good. We don't get teachers' email addresses. Only class reps get it.
  18. Very sorry to hear this and thank you for the warning. What a horrible thing to happen. I hope the police are being useful.
  19. Sorry to hear that. You could volunteer at a shelter?
  20. My daughter lost her Wonder Woman Lego Watch yesterday in the East Dulwich Road, Solway Road, Fenwich road area. She's inconsolable. If you've spotted it, please let me know! Thank you.
  21. This is a complete shamble. And the annoying thing is that i used to be pretty easy. I'm going via Brixton now. Husband drops me off and picks me up -- not ideal but I can't bear using the East London line now Southern's got so bad. It's so crowded I had a panick attack recently.
  22. A mixed bag, as you'd expect. Goodrich did well, particularly regarding the percentage of kids reaching over the expected level, which is ahead of some of outstanding schools etc.... Also noted excellent performance from Bessemer and Dulwich Woods.
  23. Signal failure apparently. It didn't last long apparently.
