For your information, 'pretty little falcons' kill other small furry things, so they are not sweet & innocent themselves. As for the crows, they are bound to chase away a bird of prey. They are feeling threatened & protecting their territory.

  9. I love Eurovision, so will definitely be watching. I've heard all the songs & expect the UK to do well, as it's the best entry we've had in years. However, I think France will win, as it is the best song.
  10. Referring to the housing situation, I also heard about this, but understood it somewhat differently. Apparently, the council is going to be offering shorter tenancies, rather than life-long ones, to new tenants. They will then review the situation when it expires, to make sure that the occupants are still in need of a council home. I'm pretty sure that existing tenants are not going to be affected, or 'turfed out' of the home they have lived in for years.
  11. I was planning to vote YES anyway, but the cat video convinced me I was doing the right thing! So, it's a YES from me. (tu)
  12. I need to get from the Goose Green area to West Dulwich station & arrive by a certain time (mid-morning, not peak.) I've used the P13 twice this week & both times, it has only been a few minutes late. Reading this thread has somewhat put me off, as it looks as if I've been lucky so far, but am not going to be able to rely on it. The other option is a 37 to Herne Hill, followed by a 3 to West Dulwich. A longer way round, but probably more reliable? Your thoughts, please... Has anyone done this alternative route regularly? Really don't want to be getting stressed about being late, waiting for a bus that isn't going to arrive.
  13. Am I the only person who will be sitting in front of the tv, actually watching it?!

(12, 63, 78, 363, P12) I was at the stop today & the no. is 1493, so hope it will still be included. Thanks for the info.
  15. Bic Basher, Just tried the link, but don't know how to access the info, so could you tell me please, if there is going to be one at the Peckham Rye/ East Dulwich Rd crossroads. It's the stop that serves the 197, 63, 363 & 12 heading towards Croydon/Crystal Palace. Thanks.
  16. I moved from Kingswood around 3 years ago, after spending 7 years there. There was rarely any trouble that I knew of. A few groups of youths used to hang around, but they mainly kept to themselves. I often walked home through the estate at night & it was really quiet & I always felt safe. The estate itself had quite a community feel about it, due to the local shopping parade & Kingswood House/library in the centre. Transport links were also good as it's 2 mins walk to Sydenham Hill station & 5 mins walk to bus stops to Crystal Palace & Croydon. Like I said, it has been 3 years since I was there so don't know if anythings changed. There were plans to open a community shop on the parade, where residents would be able to go for help & advice etc, so maybe you could pop in there & find out other peoples opinions on what it's like to live there.
  17. What on earth has happened to the 484 timetable? I waited 20 mins for a bus at Lewisham station on Saturday, then 25 mins at Dog Kennel hill on Monday. My daughter has been late for college twice this week, missing the train at ED station, because of having to wait too long for a bus. Whereas before, there used to be two 343's to every one 484 running along the back of Peckham Rye park, this week there have been around four 343's to one 484! They might be nice new buses, but I think I prefer the old ones with the original, more reliable operator.
  18. Too many committments here & unfortunately do not own my own house so can't just up & move! Maybe one day I'll win the lottery, then I'll get myself a holiday home there.

What's wrong with Brighton? If I ever go on holiday, I choose Brighton, so if I lived there, I wouldn't have to spend out for a holiday, as I'd be there already! Sun, sea & sand, Only an hour from London, Not only high street shops, but the independent, diverse ones found in The Lanes/North Laines (where I could spend the whole day.), The pier & amusement arcade (where I could also spend all day playing the 2p machines!), Good pubs, And best of all, loads of places to eat, that cater for vegetarians. Living there would be like being on holiday 24/7 !

  23. HonaloochieB, I'm sure I can't be the only person who dislikes stand-up comedy. I just don't find it funny! Don't get too upset about it though, I'm quite a happy person most of the time!

Why?!!!
  25. 1) I have been to the Ivy House before, but not to the comedy because I'm not a fan 2) No events 3) Yes, 3 or 4 times in the past two years 4) Yes, I'm aware of it's history, but I suspect when it was a 'live music' venue back then, the residential blocks of flats/houses were not next door, so noise may not have been such a problem. 5) It is the nearest pub to my house 6) It doesn't look particularly inviting from the outside, very run down & neglected looking, especially the 'beer garden'! 7) The few times I ventured inside, I didn't find it inviting either. A few locals at the bar, large screen tv with the sound turned down, hardly any tables (and they were all empty), no atmosphere whatsoever. It kind of felt like we were interrupting a private gathering, just by walking in. Because it was so quiet & the tables were so close to the bar, we had to whisper to each other to stop our conversation being overheard by our fellow drinkers! It felt quite uncomfortable, hence, only a few visits. 8) The only pubs that seem to thrive nowadays are the ones that specialise in food. The trouble is, most gastropubs build up a good customer base from word of mouth, a good reputation for serving good food. Even little out of the way places get people travelling from miles around, if the food is great. It would also need to cater more for families. Maybe a complete overhaul would work, with a grand re-opening, lots of advertising, cheaper prices, a few freebies & a good chef!
