a huge, huge thank you to everyone for their best wishes and their advice!! mr ko was dispatched first thing yesterday morning to the chemist to get infacol which has helped a bit thankfully (famous last words...) community midwife also showed me to tilt up the bottle more to stop as much air getting sucked in. it was great to be reminded about all the obvious things and reassuring that so mnay people said similar things. sounds like we have been far from alone with this problem. once again, many thanks xxx

Baby Ko has arrived and he is an absolute darling!! :)):)):))!!! he is just over a week old and the main problem we have is wind and hiccups. he is bottle fed (hipp organic) and gets wind and hiccups which won't go for ages. he just keeps burping up more wind. the midwife said bables can't get rid of all the wind in one go until they are a couple of months old. she said to get him to suck on cool boiled water which does help but it is still quite a problem. today we have spent a couple of hours trying to get rid of wind and hiccups. does anyone have any tips? should i perhaps change formula? is gripe water any better than cool boiled water? sorry for so many questions! any advice most gratefully received. many thanks in advance! ko xxx

i've heard that doctors surgeries should have funding to provide a counsellor, so its worth looking into that. also southwark have a 'books on prescription scheme' for people with depression. the doctor gives the person a form which they take to the library and there is a recommended list of books. if the book the person wants is not in stock, the library will order it in or order it from another branch. i think that basically there is a core list of books which they are trying to make more accessible for people who need them. hope your friend gets on the mend soon xxx

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?

Pugwash Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > James, > > Have you cycled up Landells Road recently? The road surface is really bad on the half of Landells Rd between the junctions of Lordship Lane and Goodrich Rd. When I enquired about this, I was told this half of the road was surfaced by the council with an experimental surfacing material. However the council found it was no good because bits sank, making the surface uneven. Therefore the council decided not to use this surfacing material elsewhere. However this half of Landells Rd has been left with the sub-standard road surfacing. It is very uneven to drive down, plus residents say it increases noise because cars are driving on ths uneven and bumpy surface. James - please can you tell us what can be done about this? If the council got it wrong, which they admit they did, they should now put it right. Thanks -

lucozade (the original version) helps keep energy levels up. is he drinking enough to keep him from getting dehydrated? he will have been dehydrated after the vomiting anyway. if he's dehydrated, it will be making him feel more poorly. hope he gets well soon xx

Belle Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- I did > also point out he was the one on a bike on the > pavement. poor you. pity there wasn't a policeman there to arrest him. i would have answered back too. today at the pedestrian crossing by peckham rye train station, 2 bicycle riders went straight through the red light while i was crossing (one rider from one side, and the other rider from the other side). this was mid way through the green man flashing and the pips sounding. i have lost count of the number of times bicycle riders have blatantly gone through the red lights by ED Iceland and the Mrs Robinson lights. its a shame bicycles don't have to have number plates or otherwise we could report such offenders to the police. try not to worry about it. what an awful man. you did nothing wrong and its horrible when nasty people ruin your day like that.

broadstairs. leave by 9am at the weekend and it takes an hour and a half (get the A2 thru peckham/new cross/blackheath rather than south circular). lovely sandy beaches. by train you can go from peckham rye - change at bromley south for the broadstairs connection. lots of cafes, restaurants, shops, ice cream places etc.

hi there. has a contract been signed with sainsburys yet? and what is the proposed opening date? thanks again -
congratulations on the pregnancy and welcome to ed! my suggestions would be nct classes which i hear are good for meeting other couples (but they get booked up quickly so get onto it asap of you want to go), Bumps & Babes which belle mentions (although not been myself), and pre-natal exercise classes. there are a couple of recent discussions about pre-natal classes. once baby is born there are masses of mum and baby activites which i'm sure in the next couple of months you will see advertised all over the place. the Plough pub has a baby club (on friday afternoons i think - opposite dulwich library), dulwich library has sessions for little ones, power-pramming in dulwich park, lots of different sorts of classes and activities all over the place. there is a cafe at christ church on barry road (again opposite dulwich library) which i believe has a breastfeeding clinic.

heidi poor you. i hope you are starting to feel better and that is one gorgeous baby boy you have. got an nct catalogue in the post and saw these feme pads (with inserts you freeze!) which sound like they could be helpful. haven't used them myself but thought i'd give you the link. xxx http://www.nctshop.co.uk/searchprods.asp edited to say link doesn't work for some reason. put 'feme pad' in nct shop search box and it comes up. -

Or support your local smaller branches to help them survive - eg the Plough post office. It always has shorter waiting times. :)) -

Advice wanted: Sterliser and breast pump for a newborn??
Ko replied to canadianlisa's topic in The Family Room Discussion
i have just bought a baby monitor because noise doesn't travel that well in our house and i will have to keep the nursery door shut because older cat loves sleeping in baby cots (which was why puss was re-homed to us by her former family!!) however, there's nothing to stop you trying things out without a monitor first - there is always the internet to order things over once baby is born if you don't feel like going out. many places do free delivery, including john lewis if you spend over ?30. also marks and spencer often does free delivery if you spend a certain amount - sign up to their websites and you get extra offers emailed to you. if you do decide to buy a monitor, there are a couple of threads on here about good ones to get and the BT 150 seems to be one of the most popular. do a search under 'monitor'. expensive at ?80, but someone kindly on the forum kindly told me it was on for ?60 on amazon, so definitely shop around and try the bt shop online too. when are you due by the way? :) -
i know of a couple of children who loved butter when they were young. could you perhaps try cooking some of her foods with olive oil to encourage her to eat those other foods? for example veg (aubergine, carrots, tomatos) roasted in olive oil is pretty yummy.
