Here we go again. If you want to see some action, unfortunately you can't just always whine loudly (even if you're very good at it) to your local councillor/council and expect everything to be solved. It can sometimes necessitate YOU having to undertake many hours hard work, based around solid facts (remember those?), and with the engagement and support of your local community, to see some results. We had to work hard to get our CGS bid. Since the lib dem councillors came in, I have seen a lot of improvements in issues which matter to me. I couldn't really care less which party the councillors are from, as long as they do what I consider to be a good job. Re parking on zigzags and near misses, the police should attend and charge people with dangerous driving if that's possible. Its selfish and there's no excuse for it. Analogies again. In case its not clear, I really don't come on this forum for people (take note AllforNun) to have a go at any opportunity. Its boring boring boring. Places to go, people to meet, things to do.......:))

Yes lets see the pharmacies now extend their hours as they said they would! Do they have to go through PCT admin procedures to do this or can they just get on with it? -
Went in for drinks on Saturday night and i have to say I really like this place. Very relaxing, nice interior that they've spent a fair bit on, good that's not another 'posh new modern bar', bar staff were very friendly and its big so good for meeting friends. (tu) I haven't tried the food yet - I might go in for a roast one Sunday!

Me too. I bought some poppies at the Plough pub on Saturday. I love the idea of the wreath.

Richard Thomas has done a great job this year helping me improve the roads in my local area. He has provided advice on tackling graffiti issues, told me about the 'Street Leader' programme to report problems, given ideas and support on how to improve our local shopping parade to help the survival of local shops away from Lordship Lane, supported a Cleaner Greener Safer bid I put in for the local area, helped us tackle a 'problem' neglected sight and escalated the problem when we had difficulties getting the council to take action, escalated our issues about litter and contacted the people at the council in charge of this. He really works very hard for the community. Try e-mailing the councillors directly with your concerns and comments and see what response you get. BTW I am not a lib-dem, but I speak from experience. This month I have had e-mails from all 3 lib-dem local councillors - a number of e-mails from Richard Thomas about various of the above issues, a number of e-mails from Jonathan Mitchell and one e-mail from James Barber about the CGS bid I put in. If you contact the councillors with your concerns and some suggestions they do take action - I've seen it happen! The councillors may not be knocking on people's doors now that the elections have past, but they are available via their regular surgeries at the community centre and also will meet people outside these times if they have a pressing issue and they are always available via e-mail. If you have concerns, they need you to contact them and make yourself and your issues known to them. I think out of the many e-mails I have sent the councillors, I didn't get a response twice, so I followed it up and both times the relevant councillor apologised - some e-mails do get sent through to 'junk' automatically! Before I started contacting the councillors, I too wondered what they did apart from knocking on doors at election time. But once I started contacting them, I got some great responses and action from them so I am now pleased with having them as our councillors - because they have acted on the concerns I contacted them about and I have seen actual results - that speaks volumes to me. Could the school try to put some red cones out in the morning and hometime?

This was discussed at the Dulwich Community Council meeting last Monday. See: http://www.hernehillsociety.org.uk/ http://www.southwark.gov.uk/Uploads/FILE_30466.pdf

The blood taking services at Dulwich Hospital is very good. They are very nice and have time to do it properly (and gently!) rather than rushing you in and out which is what happens elsewhere.

Did the Sea Cow open first in ED or Clapham, or are there other earlier branches elsewhere?

OMIGOD! If there was a tunnel between ED and Camberwell we could be invaded - nobody tell Alan!! ::o This is a great thread, really interesting. I went into Dulwich Hosptial about 2 months ago and the interior of the ground floor had all been re-painted. I've always loved those viaduct things and went to see if people could still walk along them, but the access doors were all locked. I bet there's some health & safety reason behind it.

See Bob's comments on this thread: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,45015,45035#msg-45035 At the weekend, there was a whole loads of bags outside one of the houses next to the CPT - it looked like someone had cleared out their house. The house was about 4 doors down from the CPT - the corner house on Underhill Rd/Darrell Rd.

If you want to contact someone about the CGS grant rather than waiting for them to contact you, you can e-mail andrea.allen@southwark.gov.uk or call her via the council on 0207 525 5000. Andrea does a fantastic job on CGS - very committed and she's a lovely person to deal with.

It wasn't just BARA campaigning about the proposals. There were a number of other groups campaigning too. -
Snorky, if you get your OWN moggy and its a temperantal tom, some can still be quite territorial (even once neutered) and spend a lot of time marking their territory and deter other cats coming in. Or make very, very good friends (lots of fluffy cuddles from you to moggy) with a particular neighbourhood cat (perhaps a big and bold one) and they will also see your garden as their territory and may also mark territory and deter other cats coming in. If you see another cat, you have to shoo it off (loud and sharp claps) and then make sure the unwanted cat sees you cuddling the lovely moggy you have made friends with. Cats in citys do have larger overlaps between their territories due to the limited space, so choose a bold cat. You may have to watch the dynamics of the cats coming into your garden for a little while to choose which one to become friends with and show love to. It doesn't always work, but I and quite a few people I know have seen it work - either by getting a moggy or becoming very friendly with a particular one. So go on Snorks, share the love with a fluffy moggy - you know you want to! >:D<

Simple! What's a snib lock?

Lilolil - if you think one of the children may live near CP Road, it would be worth asking the Underhill Roads shops if they've seen them (shops at junctions between Barry Road and CP Road). The newsagents may know a few of the troublesome children around if they have ever come in and are rowdy etc. Also go into the fish and chip shop and the kebab shop and ask to speak to the owners - two brothers own those shops. I will also ask a couple of people I know at the community centre on Darrell Road in case they have had any trouble with these girls hanging around the grounds and picking on other children. About the reward, I would call the police whether or not there was a reward, but maybe a reward could be useful for encouraging other children to give any info they may have?

Well then the little boy will have to wait one whole week to read "The Monsters' Guide To Choosing A Pet". :)) Seriously, I thought it was easier to pick it up and return it, than leave it lying on the pavement where a friendly street cleaner may just add it to his rubbish.

I found a dropped school bag on Goodrich Road (Lordship Lane end) with book etc. Has a name on it - initials are 'O.L.' The child may not even realise he's lost it as its the weekend now. If the parents read this, you can send me a 'private message' via the forum and pick it up from me. Otherwise I will drop it into the school on Monday.

Well done! Great work. I had also put in a Cleaner Greener Safer application and was pleased to get it approved - there were so many applications this year!

I can look up the facts for myself, I know how to read a statute, assess whether its a good piece of legislation and assess how well things are being handled under the principles of adminsitrative law and under the heading of 'common sense'. Have you read all the info to make up your mind? Its easily accessible. If you haven't, then you should. If you have, then great.:)) -
Attack - Oglander Road (at the beginning of October)

Blue10, I hope you are okay - you poor thing. Thanks for sharing the information. About what time did it happen? That could help jog people's minds if they were around at the time (coming home from the station perhaps) and saw the girls hanging around. Also, if you can/don't mind saying, did they want to steal anything? I'm surprised no one came out - you're right, we must all look out for each other. -

Sorry I don't know if we are all talking about the same application as there was also another Sainsburys application which seemed to get turned down but it wasn't quite like that and then the dispensing pharmacy did not open. Sorry if I've confused things! -

Your summary on Sainsburys is not quite correct. If you had gone along to the Bara meeting, you could have found out the position on this. Its pretty complex. As everyone keeps saying, there's far more information available than can be posted on this forum. -

Macey's on Northcross Rd is open until 7.30pm during weekdays, so its still open after DMC closes. Its only 3 mins walk from DMC. But something open until later and/or Sundays could be good. The existing chemists did offer to extend their hours further. Also if the doctors extended their hours, the chemists said they would extend their hours in line - so that people could pick up their perscriptions after a late appointment. I would like to see some evening surgeries at DMC.
