  1. Mother and 5 baby squirrels moved two trees away. I discovered their new hole in the tree when I went out this evening to meet Chick. I can't see the hole from my flat as it faces the other way. As far as I am concerned it's five more potential plant trashers, so I shall regrease the drain pipe with motorcycle chain spray - as that seems to have worked so far!
  2. Mrs Squirrel has given birth to five live baby plant destroyers, I mean baby squirrels. And in the last hour she has been given a 5 bedroom council tree flat and carefully gently transplanted each baby squirrel by mouth head first down, from her cramped damp little tree hole 20 feet up, to her new abode in the next tree along. I could not photograph it however. My camera ran out of battery. I got camera two. Its battery had died a long while ago and I could have wasted time putting new battery in or just watching the scene unfold. Whilst she was carrying one down, tiny little paws and a head emerged from the tree hole and I worried one might fall out! I'm exhausted! I guess the tree hole should now have a For Let sign put by it. The parakeets have had their beady eyes on it for a while so when they return from their mini trip in Forest Hill they may make it their own again.
  3. I can also recommend a book called World's End. This is an area of Chelsea, slums and tenements, and the writer talks of his time as a kid there during the blitz and being evacuated. It is such a powerful book to read. If you can not find anyone, do read that book aloud to your kids. They will also realise that the things they do that may now earn them ASBOs were a matter of life and death and survival for kids in the war years! As a side note - I once auditioned to play a character who goes to speak at a school (I did not get the role, not just because I was about 30 years too young!) who talks of her time in London in the war, and then she casually but unexpectedly starts talking about why we were fighting the war and her talk all turns a bit nasty and racist though she has no idea she's doing it; it's so ingrained in her. My Mum who is 83, is like this, too. When I left home she told me she didn't care who I brought home as long as he was not Japanese or German or black (which had nothing to do with anything but there you are...) The play, by the way, was based on a true story if I remember. So - and to get back to topic - be careful who you hire!!
  4. Well done on calling the police. Terrible thing to have happened. Just been down there myself. Best wishes to you and I hope you have someone you can talk to if you need to. Peckham Rose xx
  5. Willfox that is a great piece of work you have done. Hugely impressed. AND I can see my flat too! The photos from my flat I posted on a similar thread a while ago, called something like Views from your house. I ride round London quite a bit and also frequent skyscrapers.com. Love London!
  6. Today MrsSquirrel has decided to get rid of red screen door because she could hear even the bluetits laughing at her. She's in SE15, not SE22, and the blatant show is clearly embarrassing. She's found a piece of bark that fits nicely and also flips up so acts as a porch floor. She was out earlier than normal this morning but the pesky humans on the flat opposite have put the squirrel proof bird feeders up and also lined the drain pipe with motorcycle chain spray so she can't climb up. Lots of new buds on the trees though; they will have to do. Oh this pregnancy is tiring!
  7. And one of London - the Heron Tower construction so far! OK, thanks for letting me share! Do add your own!
  8. Margate, where I grew up. Can not wait for that Turner Centre to open! Taken from end of the Stone Pier with the shell lady sculpture. Sea front from Stone Pier - Dreamland on the right by Invictor Tower, it may reopen as a theme funfare - theme NOT being urban degradation(!) but of old fashioned funfare rides.
  9. Broadstairs last month, quite a windy day! And this one, bird in top left hand corner as wave broke. Oooh it's all in the timing!
  10. Peckham Rye Park last month. (And I own the copyright to these photos! Just saying, in case anyone wants to 'borrow' them)
  11. Good physical discipline, and an appreciation for arts. Soon turns into over-awareness of self and one's body leading to a life time of unhealthy non-eating. And smoking of course. And that's just by the time they're seven!
  12. Kel I also saw her, and heard her refuse to answer the question about whether hospitals will close or not. She lost a LOT of kudos with that interview. The interesting point is that some hospitals maybe can be closed (Dulwich?) because if each hospital concentrates on one or two problems, ie. Kings is a national expert on stroke, Guys on hearts etc etc then you get taken (by helicopter) to whichever hospital in London deals with your problem. It makes sense to me that all the experts on something are all at the same one or two hospitals. But it can't be that simple, can it Tessa?
  13. Poor little so and so! I shall listen out and look out for adverts on trees and so on.
  14. Oh gawd what a humiliating sad and awful thing. You'll bound to be inundated.
  15. Fair enough and good points made. I also feel strongly about voting - a great Aunt was a Suffragette!
  16. "Bubbly" women. A description used in ads for secretaries and office help, denoting lots of fun character and little intellect required. Glam and bubbly, now there's a thing. We don't want our bubbly women dressing like tramps! Sorry, sure you'll find what you're looking for. So many people dying to be on telly these days to sort their lives out!
  17. Nice line, Swagger. Seriously though.....?
  18. Good call, mate. I hope Flickr will also do a lot to oppose this. They have a lot of clout. Call made to Harriet.
  19. The squirrel sits at the red screen door at the hole about 20 feet up the tree. She took a mighty long time hauling that red screen door up. She thinks it may put off the green parakeets. But no, they want their home back and they want it now. They don't often bother her these days though, but she has to sleep with an ear open, having watched and witnessed Jessie cat for years learning her tricks. Squirrel sits at the screen door. She's not to know the red discarded bit of cardboard once housed a brand new Fisher Price toy. She doesn't care the toy was itself discarded by an ungrateful child not one week later. All she knows is there is a lot of different coloured screen doors she could choose and experiment with long as she has the energy to keep bringing them up the tree. And the parakeets are hassling her. And she's pregnant with about three. And climbing up and down is not easy and she keeps falling off the smaller branches as she eats the new budding leaves bursting forth from the tips. She needs food. She tries not go down to ground level, as she is sometimes used as target practice by the kids or their dogs. She's tired, she's big, but for now, she's safe.
  20. Go to a VERY good broker with teenage sons or recently teenage sons. He's not paying me to advertise him so I shall PM you the name.
  21. Agree with going back to Doctors with a revcord of your temperature and question if use of antibiotics was right since the symptoms may be viral or fungal. And don't waste your time with the NHS Direct line. Sorry if I offend anyone with that last statement but I stand by it.
  22. I am finally over it. Had it last Wednesday night and although stopped doing the exploding thing by Saturday, it has taken this long to get better although MrPR then got it and reinfected me a bit Saturday. PLEASE please please if you get it DO NOT GO OUT FOR TWODAY DAYS AFTER YOUR LAST 'EXPLOSION' - IE TWO DAYS AFTER YOU START TO FEEL BETTER. Because THAT's when you're still infectious. Thank you. Just as well I am not religious because I missed Easter this year!
  23. So it looks like it's gonna be May 6th. I am as confuzzled as ever; still shocked but having to get over it that I chose a tory policy. It's a good website innit. I may do it again and choose four different policies.
  24. I recommend you see Taking Liberties the film, Also keep in touch with the laws on street photography in the news section of the British Journal of Photography
  25. And the assurance of pension rights. Well, if you're entitled to any!
