Some photos of Thanet and PeckhamRyePark March 2010
PeckhamRose replied to PeckhamRose's topic in The Lounge
Broadstairs last month, quite a windy day! And this one, bird in top left hand corner as wave broke. Oooh it's all in the timing! -
Peckham Rye Park last month. (And I own the copyright to these photos! Just saying, in case anyone wants to 'borrow' them)

Ballet - Why do people inflict this on their children?
PeckhamRose replied to Mick Mac's topic in The Lounge
Good physical discipline, and an appreciation for arts. Soon turns into over-awareness of self and one's body leading to a life time of unhealthy non-eating. And smoking of course. And that's just by the time they're seven! -
Kel I also saw her, and heard her refuse to answer the question about whether hospitals will close or not. She lost a LOT of kudos with that interview. The interesting point is that some hospitals maybe can be closed (Dulwich?) because if each hospital concentrates on one or two problems, ie. Kings is a national expert on stroke, Guys on hearts etc etc then you get taken (by helicopter) to whichever hospital in London deals with your problem. It makes sense to me that all the experts on something are all at the same one or two hospitals. But it can't be that simple, can it Tessa?

Anyone lost a dog? Around Ryedale / Underhill Road
PeckhamRose replied to rbarton's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Poor little so and so! I shall listen out and look out for adverts on trees and so on. -
Oh gawd what a humiliating sad and awful thing. You'll bound to be inundated.

Fair enough and good points made. I also feel strongly about voting - a great Aunt was a Suffragette!

CHANNEL4'S COOK YOURSELF THIN IS LOOKING FOR PARTICIPANTS
PeckhamRose replied to Tiger Aspect's topic in The Lounge
"Bubbly" women. A description used in ads for secretaries and office help, denoting lots of fun character and little intellect required. Glam and bubbly, now there's a thing. We don't want our bubbly women dressing like tramps! Sorry, sure you'll find what you're looking for. So many people dying to be on telly these days to sort their lives out! -
Nice line, Swagger. Seriously though.....?

Call Tessa now - Vote NO to the Digital Economy Bill
PeckhamRose replied to tog_in_sox's topic in The Lounge
Good call, mate. I hope Flickr will also do a lot to oppose this. They have a lot of clout. Call made to Harriet. -
The squirrel sits at the red screen door at the hole about 20 feet up the tree. She took a mighty long time hauling that red screen door up. She thinks it may put off the green parakeets. But no, they want their home back and they want it now. They don't often bother her these days though, but she has to sleep with an ear open, having watched and witnessed Jessie cat for years learning her tricks. Squirrel sits at the screen door. She's not to know the red discarded bit of cardboard once housed a brand new Fisher Price toy. She doesn't care the toy was itself discarded by an ungrateful child not one week later. All she knows is there is a lot of different coloured screen doors she could choose and experiment with long as she has the energy to keep bringing them up the tree. And the parakeets are hassling her. And she's pregnant with about three. And climbing up and down is not easy and she keeps falling off the smaller branches as she eats the new budding leaves bursting forth from the tips. She needs food. She tries not go down to ground level, as she is sometimes used as target practice by the kids or their dogs. She's tired, she's big, but for now, she's safe.

Lowering high body temperature with medication - good or bad?
PeckhamRose replied to brum's topic in The Lounge
Agree with going back to Doctors with a revcord of your temperature and question if use of antibiotics was right since the symptoms may be viral or fungal. And don't waste your time with the NHS Direct line. Sorry if I offend anyone with that last statement but I stand by it. -
There's a lot of it going round (Norovirus!)
PeckhamRose replied to PeckhamRose's topic in The Lounge
I am finally over it. Had it last Wednesday night and although stopped doing the exploding thing by Saturday, it has taken this long to get better although MrPR then got it and reinfected me a bit Saturday. PLEASE please please if you get it DO NOT GO OUT FOR TWODAY DAYS AFTER YOUR LAST 'EXPLOSION' - IE TWO DAYS AFTER YOU START TO FEEL BETTER. Because THAT's when you're still infectious. Thank you. Just as well I am not religious because I missed Easter this year! -
So it looks like it's gonna be May 6th. I am as confuzzled as ever; still shocked but having to get over it that I chose a tory policy. It's a good website innit. I may do it again and choose four different policies.

Why mariage is good (for the country / economy)

And the assurance of pension rights. Well, if you're entitled to any! -
Why mariage is good (for the country / economy)
PeckhamRose replied to Marmora Man's topic in The Lounge
Marriage is not a religious thing, but I understand was merely a formal arrangement to protect the women when the fishermen didn't come from from fishing trips. Religious folk have taken it over. Politicians who realise how powerful the religious thing is use it to bash us over the head with even though there seems to be no evidence that monogamy is a natural need. We only got married because of the pension rights having lived together 18 years. We'd have had a Humanist wedding too had it been legal in England. We had to go to Southwark Registry Office. We did not tell anyone so no money was spent. Marriage is not necessarily good for the economy but it is good for us all to be in identifiable units so we can be monitored more easily by governments. My thoughts for what they're worth! -

I just posted something in the Wanted section - if anyone can help we'd be so grateful. Thank you. -

PeckhamRose replied to PeckhamRose's topic in The Lounge
Thank you. Those two days are taking longer and longer to begin since MrPR got it and reinfected me! But I agree, we shall be strict about this. -
Well I shocked myself when I got my results. In each of the four subjects I voted a different party's policy. Now what the blinking flip do I do? None of them were Labour!!! (None were BNP tho, phew!)

And now MrPR has it and I'm not well enough to look after him oh CRAP CRAP CRAP -
A spray can of 1 cal frying spray. It's use by date was 2004. However, I know for a fact I only bought it last year! Heinz Macaroni cheese is delicious by the way. Specially when you're poorly.

The original Firkin was called the Goose. It was on the junction of Southwark Bridge Road and something else by the railway bridges. Dogbolter. Oh I Loved That Beer. David Bruce had a job and made beer in his bath in his spare time, so the story goes. He got made redundant and opened the Goose with the redundancy pay. The 80s were good for some folks! The beer was marvellous and all the names of the pubs were either F or Ph, except the first, the Goose. Happy to be corrected but that's the story as I understood it. Anyway, how is that pub being affected by the Strata? (I think it closed down tho, didn't it? The Firkin still is called the Firkin in Lewisham I think, but Friary Meux bought the chain and then sold it on to someone else.)
