  1. Maybe they need a rest/are trying to have lives. They don't get paid to do this.

In your opinion. I disagree.
  3. Worry about something important perhaps?

    Local taxi prices

I don't think you'd find a minimum fare with a local dab firm of less than ?6 or ?7. ?9 does seem too much but Uber are cheaper for local journeys (although the jury's out on whether they are at all honourable as a company.
  5. What a misery you are. You should spend some time in the homeless guy's shoes.

The fact is that there is far more choice here now than ever but our terrible supermarket culture and the fact that people are more willing to eat crap here than in some other countries means that the separation between good food and cheap food grows greater all the time.
  7. I second that re Sopers. Still not cheap but more reasonable and much, much better than Moxons. Laughing at the inverted snobbery about expensive loaves. When they are good, they go much further than a sliced loaf of mass produced bread and are infinitely nicer. I wouldn't buy them all the time but they are a treat worth having now and again.
  8. Is this about Waitrose?
  9. Definitely Silk Road. Try the pork with fungus. Sounds awful, tastes amazing.
  10. I was a vegetarian for 10 years. Thankfully I'm over it now.

  12. Who hurt you Louisa? Was it a pizza delivery man?

That's bad. Did she say why? > Very weird. Some Tory waffle about it being "PC". Most disappointing when someone you had previously respected reveals these sorts of true colours.
  14. I'm never happy to see the passing of anyone, let alone someone with talent but for me the fact that she, on several occasions voted against equal rights for gay people in the HoL meant that I lost all respect for her.
  15. Thanks healey, so not next to The Actress. Forgive my anal pedantry.
  16. I'd also say this is an overreaction. Unless it's been going on for some time, in which case worth a moan. Couldn't you cross the road?

    The Missing

That "dream sequence" was utter rubbish. Undermined what was turning out to be a good show.
  18. Thanks for clarifying re the police station James. We're still none the wiser about where this development is though!
  19. There has always been something of a clique here. A few smart arses who think they are blessed with special insight. Most of them are in reality sad goons but at the moment I don't know if it's as bad as it was 2 or 3 years ago. First time posters usually only get a hard time if they behave according to Penguins post above. If the trolls attack and it's unwarranted, there are usually one or two here who will come to your defence!
  20. Yes, please specify where exactly. Is it the old building across the road from The Actress (did it used to be a police gun store or something) or is it next to The Actress?

The food definitely became rubbish pretty soon after it opened and not even vaguely comparable to The Palmerston or Franklins for a roast. I've never been to the Great Exhibition but can report that we had another roast at The Crooked Well in Camberwell on Sunday and it's hands down the best in the area.
  22. I don't agree Louisa. For me it's everything in moderation. There are times when I want the finest ingredients, beautifully prepared and lovingly presented (that said, I'm not all that interested in food as "fashion"), then sometimes I just want to go to a greasy spoon. I think it's fantastic that we now have much more varied and better quality food available in London, which was a bit of food wasteland not so long ago. It's all about choice and the choice is better than ever.

I'd say 1973-5ish. I definitely remember going to see "Earthquake" at the flicks and then going to the Golden Egg. That was 1974. Quality.
  24. We used to think Angus Steak Houses were the height of sophistication when I was a kid and we cam to London. In reality we preferred The Golden Egg. Egg, sausage and chips on a chrome plate with vinegary tomato ketchup. Yum.
  25. The Tex Mex place was AWFUL!
