  1. I remember in the States giving our dog pig ears and cow hooves for a snack. It was fine until you found a half eaten pig's ear in your bed... I suspect this will be lounged soon.
  2. Dear Brian and Jackie, I'm very saddened by this news, but wish you all the best in the future. Both J and I have enjoyed your hospitality greatly. -C
  3. The Ashmolean Museum has a great collection and is always worth a visit. The museum will be closed for a year from 23 December. Have fun. Ashmolean
  4. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We're currently retrofitting a basement on one of the aforementioned streets and we're already digging down 12 feet for sub-structure footings. They will have to at least dig down further than that around us. I'll pass this on to our engineers for their opinions and post back.

    Ask Admin

Dear Admin, Why do I occasionally get an "access forbidden 404..." notice when I'm using this forum. Is it your server or am I being censored again from where I am? I'm not trying to hack into the system. Thanks, -C
  6. Good luck to the new greetings shop and ditto about it opening in this climate !? Also looking forward to the new juice bar on NCR so the poor people who are always making the fresh OJ outside don't have to freeze during the winter months (or the summer months, for that matter).

    Holiday lets

We've had great luck with www.tuscanynow.com.
  8. Some fertilizers are made from seaweed. Perhaps any garden centre would stock this.
  9. Hello Huntaar, Welcome to ED! This area is fantastic for green grocers, butchers, fish mongers, bakers, wine shops, etc, etc... surely cooking at home will help cut down on restaurant costs. I think most of the pubs are relatively similar in price. The Castle is a favourite of my husband's and a bit off the beaten path. There's a thread in the lounge by microbite introducing themselves so just jump on ...
  10. Dear Bryan, It is my understanding that tortoises also are natural predators of slugs so perhaps get a few in your garden. Also, a good freeze during the winter months might kill a batch off. Sorry not to offer any culinary advice, but do let us know how you get on with the basil and garlic remedy as it sounds mighty tasty indeed. Sorry Brendan, I would rather have slugs than THAT prawn cocktail thing.
  11. Based on the way the movie abruptly ended, it appears that Donnie Darko was dreaming the entire time coupled with the fact that he has some sort of mental issues.
  12. Ah, the rosemary beetle. They also like lavender, fyi, and the only way I have been able to get rid of them is to hand pick each one and squash it. This was also the advice of the garden centre, as well, as they do not have any predators here. Absolutely revolting!
  13. Given the way things are heading, I'd suspect that next year will be worse.

  15. Yes, and think of all that fantastic porcelain from China that ended up in Europe because of the VOC. In fact, the porcelain was a by-product of the rather lopsided trade as it was to act as ballast for the tea that was being shipped. Edited to add - Soooo off topic!
  16. The one to watch will be the vice presidential debate. I wonder if Palin will recount thinking that the dinosaurs lived 4000 years ago. She must be doing a crash course in world geography/world history at the moment to be going up against Joe Biden. Looking forward to the carnage. Let's hope us yanks vote accordingly.
  17. That is truly the most terrifying thing. Is that natural or has someone in a laboratory been tampering with the size of rabbits?
  18. Hi Siduhe, What I gathered was that the council most definitely know who actually painted over the mural. Rather than naming him/her and placing the blame entirely on them they are trying to move forward and rectify the problem quickly. I believe that a teacher involved in the original mural was unhappy with the increasing amount of graffiti tagging and wanted the council to take action. Through a break down in communication and a series of misunderstandings, the mural got painted over. Hopefully, lesson learned by the council and in future there will be more consultation on public artwork.
  19. In all fairness, Councillor Nardell has been really good about keeping us in the loop. I sent an email a few days ago and have since been copied on every email he has sent to various people trying to resolve this (Mark too has been CC'd on these emails). The fact that Councillor Nardell wants an on-site meeting this week with all parties concerned is a great start, IMO, to resolving this problem.
  20. I'm attaching various emails that I have been copied on by Councillor Gordon Nardell. Sorry if they are very cumbersome and lengthy. Basically, Councillor Nardell is calling for an on-site meeting ASAP with other councillors, FoGG and other interested parties (ie, any of us) to discuss this matter and to immediately have it rectified. I am pleased that Councillor Nardell is moving swiftly on this. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dear Ms Jowell, Ms Harman, Cllrs Thomas and Nardell In response to recent enquiries in respect of the above, Southwark Council wishes to issue the following statement. The mural 'Vision of Angels' was created by artist Stan Peskett in 1993, and was commissioned as part of the Dulwich festival, and painted with the help of local adults with learning disabilities and children from 10 local primary schools. Over recent years the mural has been subjected to tagging which caused irreparable damage and had covered much of the original artwork in the lower half of the mural. The Council was approached by individuals who were involved in the original work and it was suggested to us that blanking the lower half of the mural was better than the leaving the wall as it was. This was necessary as it was impossible to remove the tagging without affecting the paintwork underneath. Doing this without a wider consultation with both residents and the Council's own arts team was clearly wrong and the Council apologises for this. However , the Council would like to reassure you that the affected area has been painted over as a temporary measure while we look at what can be done with the mural so the community can continue to enjoy it. If possible we will look at working with the community and Stan Peskett to restore the mural back to its former glory, with an appropriate anti-graffiti covering. We will also be putting in place processes whereby similar vulnerable pieces of public art are properly assessed before cleaning or removal takes place. Regards Jon Sheaff Parks and Open Spaces Manager London Borough of Southwark _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dear all, Here is latest exchange with the senior officer responsible, Jon Sheaff. I will continue to press for urgent progress. "Dear Jon, Thank you for getting back to us on this. I am relieved that the current arrangement is "temporary". Having failed to consult before taking this temporary step, the Council absolutely must avoid making the same error when it "looks at what can be done with the mural" and decides what restoration is "possible". Residents will have strong views about "what can be done" and what is "possible" and it is critical that those are heard and heard now. So may we please now get that rolling with an urgent site meeting which those interested can attend. Best regards Gordon Gordon Nardell Labour Councillor for The Lane ward Tel 07903 964262 Members' Room Southwark Town Hall Peckham Road London SE5 8UB
  21. AcedOut- Sorry, I was confused... Translation: Raid on Petrol Station
  22. AcedOut- Truncated version: Petrol Station Raid.
  23. Dear Bryan, I was startled to see the photo of the giant rabbit in the link you provided. I'm not sure if the Horniman would be able to help, but as Moos suggests the Battersea Park Zoo should be able to help. Perhaps also give the Battersea Dogs Home a bell to see if anyone has reported losing a giant rabbit or if they would know what to do in this situation. Good luck. -C
  24. Just enough to make a coat.... I shall look forward to meeting the rabbit.
  25. You do have a copy of your email to your boss yesterday telling him that you are preggers, right? It's dated BEFORE this redundancy warning letter of today. As Snorky says, get all the details together. Your boss is trying to do everything by the book and may say he never received your email at which point you procure your email to the solicitor. He's a real tw*t if he thinks he can get away with it! Hang in there!
