  2. That's Mazel Tov. ;-)
  3. I think alcohol should be kept to a minimum, like 200mls per day for men and I believe red and white wine is better for the antioxidant properties. I'm not a doctor though, just someone who has read a book or two on GI diets, so please ask your GP about it. Best, -C Edited to say cross posted with PGC, but there are health benefits to drinking ONE glass of wine a day.
  4. Wardy, I suspect your stories transcend Rodwell and Heber Roads to all of East Dulwich and even South London. It's great for people who live here now to hear your wonderful tales. And we all think that things have changed in the last 4-5 years! Out of interest, what house number did you grow up in? Keep the stories coming! -C
  5. Adopting a low GI (glycaemic index) diet would help lose the weight and make you feel full and keep your blood sugar level stable. This was recommended to my husband by his GP and although my husband doesn't have diabetes, he did grow up on a starchy potato based diet in the old country which was rather unhealthy in the long run. There are loads of books on low GI eating. Very best of luck. ps- alcohol is metabolised as sugar in the body, so cutting down on drinking would also be beneficial.
  6. Out of curiosity, where are the "chav areas?"
  7. Lovely stories Wardy and thanks for sharing them with us. Do you still live on Rodwell Road?
  8. C is always speaking. I made J get his own user name.... he hardly posts, only when we have issues with house guests. Huguenot and Candj are enjoying the far east, we're never coming back. -C x
  9. Oh Citizen, don't you know the answer to that ? ;-) Citizen Ed? or Citizen East Dulwich?

  11. I'm sure there are many rats outside of Sainsburys. As this is an urban area, there's probably little we can do aside from not leaving large amounts of waste in open bins (or increase the cat population which would be equally frightening!).
  12. *Bob* wrote "Knobsauce - just outside of Doncaster" What? Are you absolutely sure you don't mean the company Knob Source outside of Doncaster who sell door knobs and knockers (:))) ? I'm not doubting you and my geography of South Yorkshire is a bit rusty these days .. so apologies in advance!
  13. Mianus in Fairfield County, Connecticut.
  14. There was another thread on the same subject matter. Rather than have two threads running parallel, the mighty ADMIN locked one. Sadly, yours wasn't first, so got locked...
  15. try this
  16. TLS, "giving" does not have an "e" in it. ;-)
  17. Dear Northlondoner, I do believe that Spartacus is just trying to be helpful and has taken the time to describe a situation for someone who will sadly return to find their car vandalised (their car, not his, if you read properly). I won't comment on whether or not "four black girls" is offensive or not as there are lengthy threads about this. However, the correction of typos IS silly and there are millions of typos on this forum! Relax! Best, -C Edited once for a typo.
  18. Ditto regarding Moxons!

    Hello

    Hello
  20. I breast fed in Kabul... but then they weren't my children. Oh my God this thread has gone INSANE!
  21. oooh Domitianus, I'd love to see a man's bits next time I'm eating. Please PM to arrange. At least I wouldn't get dysentery from it.
  22. Because that's what this forum is for. ;-)
  23. I would have said something to the mother doing this. It is absolutely disgusting in a restaurant, wine bar, where ever in public. Did this place not have a loo? I have changed many a nappy in the smallest, dirtiest loos, without baby facilities, on the window sill, on my lap, on a filthy wet floor (on my coat) at Heathrow, on the pushchair fully reclined, in some scariest of places in China, but NEVER in public to some poor unsuspecting stranger. ICK!
  24. Love the Tom Tom. We take it everywhere, even abroad, and it has never let us down. Very easy to use - even for a girl like me.
