  1. VM is great - Forget freeview it's rubbish
  2. Fantastic Tuna and Sweetcorn sandwiches !
  3. Nunhead square i think you will find, give it 4 years.
  4. hey 'Jah Rule' I have just heard that it is going to be a surf shop ....... mainly selling a brand called Hot Tuna!
  5. So if you don't use tinned what do you use ? Fresh Tuna from the Thames? Now run of and stage dive .
  6. Sweet jehova what happened ? inform me please ?
  7. Ah but Admin I think I am on topic. like a postmodern film where you have to join the dots, you may find the answer yourself and then Eureka. If the folks of ED are screaming for Organic, Free-trade and an end to harmoginous high streets, but in reality maybe do not understand the fundamentals then surely we have a problem? If we take taste as one example if you do not know why the UK is the home of crap Tuna, then surely you are just buying into a marketing exercise when it comes to organic, hand reared, grass fed food ? And when this marketing exercise reaches it full potential will our high streets be any different from the harmoginous versions that people on this blog rail against now? These big companies came into being because, not equipped with sufficient knowledge, we all bought into them in the 80's. So surely it's about informed decision making to avoid the mistakes of the past? (although 3 pints of Kroneberg and then this badly punctuated attempt at theory is probably a mistake !) Hoping for something different to arrive in ED in it current phase is like hoping that Lordship Lane can single handedly roll back the mechanics of Capitalism
  8. Downturn will have no effect ? What an odd thing to say? and I am sure Nunhead primary school children do not think that their schools are terrible, so you should think a little about the kids maybe. Of course Dulwich village school is great but basically it's a fee paying school that the tax payers pay for. The major problem with Brockley is that it is a long long high street, which is almost impossible to radically change in a small space of time and ....it feels very very suburban....which as we all know is ....well just boring ! Nunhead rules ...are their to be broken !
  9. Jah Lush i know it was ages ago but.... Tell me something about UK tuna fish - you know the ones in the little round tins around 50p - I will tell you if I was right to presume...................no extra research though, first answers only please
  10. Nunhead is going to just get better and better - prices will shift around depending on roads, just like ED in the early days. 6 months ago a lovely 3 bed terrace which had been wonderfully restored went for ?410.000. Still a bargain would have easily been 580.000 or More in ED. I think that if it reaches its potential it will probably become what most of the residents of ED wish would happen to Lordship Lane. But it's a question of economics, Nunhead lane would sustain a whole range of ecletic independant shops, but is too small for the bland multinationals. It does need/deserve a really good primary school though. Lets hope the liberals pull their fingers out of there roundaabouts..er sorry I meant arses and kickstart the regeneration Zone with a little bit more than the few crumbs that are already in the pipeline. Actually just like the shops its a question of economics to small for the multi nationals and to few votes for......
  11. You mock the Tuna Fish, Sweetcorn and Mayonaise sandwich but maybe that's because your only aware of poor ingredients. Mark One would fit in nicely then surely ? Is there ED Bougie at work here ?
  12. I agree with you louisa + Rosie - It will be great. Iceland's for great food, Mark One for your evening outfit and then a night out in the new TGI fridays that may be replacing the Mexican. Finally ED's on the map for good night out.
  13. Apparently it may be a new flagship store for them. I have heard that some of their recent openings were accompanied by celebrity guests and some press. I think Kerry Katonna and lee ryan have be involved in the past. Possibly something to put ED really on the map.
  14. Well apparently I have it from a v good source that the leasholders are in very advanced discussions with a firm called Mark One. I think they are a clothing retailers ? Its basically a done deal. I think East Dulwich will be looking pretty smart in a few years. But....... It looks like Nunhead is going to get all the eclectic arty shops. It will probably bleedin feel like columbia market in a few years.
  15. They knew they would find asbestos, the architects knew it was in there years ago, they said as much in some meetings years back. More "war via the back door" politics....
  16. Brillliant pool, brilliant building..... It is closed because it is undergoing major renovations on the heating systems and pipe works. However the Major of London proposed to have it knocked down several years ago, moved closer to the station (1000metres) and reduced to a standard sports centre (small pool, play zone etc) but his proposal was rejected by people who use the centre in its current incarnation. So...this could just be another attempt to get his own way via the backdoor. Do not be surprised if you read something like this in the future. ?While replacing pipe work in the sports centre it was discovered that it would be economically unwise to continue as the infrastructure was in a far worse condition than expected" Cue - pool remaining closed for 2 years while everyone argues, eventually it gets knocked down and moved to the station site. The pool water is now red hot, the pool itself has shrunk by 50%, but fat kids are having great fun in the ball Pool! Ps.. Ear ache was probably caused by the fact that the pool is a racing pool and the water is never warm. As you work out in the pool your body heat rises but the pool being cool means you can continue to train hard. Try wearing earplugs this should help.
  17. Mmmm DM you seem fixated on the idea of feeding children. I am sure you may have ventured into Tuscany especially as you regulary mention Italian cuisine and the great cultural pirate J blakcbeard Oliver! This may come as a shock to you but with little prompting from books, magazines or TV programmes, small children, from Italy, France, Spain and even NZ will regularly bite into a ripe tomato, a slice of melon or even mix olives with their chocolate fingers at a childrens party. So forget Idealistic just be realistic. ......lets just end it here .......these people at this cafe are adding water to double expresso's ! "oh the horror, the horror" Note to Lawyers - This is not Dulwich Park Cafe's machine - just a visual comedic ending ....I thank you.
  18. Yes it's just about the food; I have never read anywhere that says, "Cook for 3hrs slowly at gas mark 2 but not inside the perimeters of an open space, rolling meadow, snow capped peak or even a london park! How lovely would 2 poached kippers be for breakfast accompanied by the sound of geese from the pond, a poached egg over a bed of rocket as you look out over a frost covered field or a stack of little dollar pancakes with bacon and mapple syrup with a backdrop of children riding an array of crazy bikes...... Don't forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he always wanted. What happened? He lived happily ever after.
  19. Well considering that you are mainly talking about the Architecture of the building what can the response be? How come Dulwich park got so much money starting from 99', influencial locals, councillors greasing the cogs of grants bodies ..who knows? But the menu is very limited........eating healthily is really a tall order........eating blandly is easy....... Let's see what happens at Peckham Rye Cafe ?
  20. I just checked their website and I think I vanished through a wormhole into another dimension. Before it spat me back into the real world I managed to grab this. "We serve food that is innovative but with a traditional feel. Fresh, sometimes organic, but mostly interesting. We also cater for a large section of the community offering food alternatives such as vegetarian, vegan, wheat free food, (there is a large proportion of people today with wheat and other food allergies). We are also open to suggestions, if a customer has certain dietary requirements we are happy to offer an alternative." mmm............... yes my diet requires some freekin decent food...................please x
  21. Stop with this bums on seats nonsense - are you advocating a Burger King for the park? Actually if we wood panel their buiding, give them a clock tower and a weather vane it may make the notion of Burger King Vanish and hey presto a little park cafe with bums on seats and a website we can write to if we do not like it. Oh the joy of it all.
  22. Dear DM Funnily enough G + F stopped doing food because to many Dulwich Mum's parked up with their Kids just to be seen in what was the first nice place in East Dulwich and nursed glasses of water and orange juices for upwards of 2hours ! - Children are not unadventurous and it's not about being idealistic - it's just a world does exist outisde of the one you may imagine for youself. "Invention, my dear friend, is 93% perspiration, 6% Electricity, 4% Evaporation, and 2% butterscotch ripple."
  23. Demographic! Oh my god we are in trouble. It's about having great facilities a very modern building and a menu that is way off the mark. Its 2007 not 83". It's got nothing to do with Fifteen it's just about basic simple food made with care. They would only need to educate themselves on the food front and hey presto. Maybe they should start with some interesting salad selections and decent bread ( just 3 huge bowls on the counter) Trial it at the weekend and just watch it fly. Obviously they could then see if works finacially. Visit somewhere first that does it, learn then apply if they are not sure. At least it would provide a balance/alternative to fried eggs & bacon sandwiches.
  24. This Deli is brilliant news for food lovers and Nunhead in general. Realistic prices and a genuine understanding of food means you can not go wrong. Maybe this will finally kickstart some other action in Nunhead. I give it 18 months before some of the vacant shops on the lane begin to fill up with considered business proposals such as this one. If you understand food then visit and you will know why this place is just bloody brilliant..........see you all on sunday picking fresh bread, veg and wine!
