Well funny that - Nobody in Nunhead that I know of seemed to have a clue ? maybe you just thought you would target ED and that Bellenden Road represented Peckham? Did you flyer the Peckham side of the Park? Or any of the estates bordering the park? or any of the locall pubs? As for local community meetings considering that they are so poorly attended and it is always the same faces that is a bit of a joke. You seem to be unable to acknowledge the fact that outside of your circle of people 95% of the other residents did not have a clue? Could you please tell everyone on this forum how you engaged the Nunhead Community ?.......answers please.......? The only Cranks are Divs like yourself who seem to be think that phoning your mates to let them know about meetings constitutes consultation. Can you recall in roughly how many people attended these well advertised meetings.....let me guess 20odd ?

It pretty sad really. Now the press has got hold the councillors will apply pressure and the whole thing will be shifted just becasue nobody wants to upset the good folk of ED. You would not give 2 $%its if this thing was moved next to a nursery, community centre in Peckham / Nunhead or near some other area other than your own. But do you even care? sadly enough the answer would be no. Funny how Heroin users have a similar mentallity to most of yours, removed from the real world with no sense or care of the effect their decisions have on others. -
"Park users were very well consulted with in the planning and design of the cafe" This is so ridiculous it is almost offensive - there was almost no serious attempt to engage the local community, most of the residents that I know who live near the park had absolutely no idea. The first thig most people knew were posters for applications to run a cafe began to appear. Having said all that the Cafe looks fantastic ! As for the pool I was told that a laminated flyer was hung from one of the fences. The truth is that the council does not really want well sttended meetings just in case someone stands up and challenges them.

Peckham Rye Childrens Play Area
AllforNun replied to AllforNun's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Dear all The friends of Peckham Rye Park consist of about 10 6-10year olds so I am told. The 1 o'clock club is infact housed in huts that were used to intern Italian Prisoners During the 2nd world war (yes and then we stole all their recipes!). The club has been flooding regulary for 9 years due to poor drainage hence why it is closed for months on end. The council are well aware but do give give a flying ....goose....they are to busy speding money elsewhere...Goose Green for starters. The playground is not adequate in anyway it is Rubbish, and it should be revamped long before Goose Green gets any more funding. Apparently the greens big green over-ornate fence with 10 dog foul bins spaced every 20ft cost in excess of ?150000, so bad luck there goes your new playground. There are also no decent playgrouds this side of the Rye and the people of ED are already served by Dulwich Villages own Alton Towers in Dulwich Park ! Having met the lady who runs the 1'oclock (very nice she is too) I doubt she would be able to chop down that tree on her own. More likely it fall a crush the 1'oclock club long before she tools herself up. Ps... someone should have asked the prisoners to provide a proper recipe for Cappaccino to the cafe's of ED cause none of them have a bleedin clue....but then neither do the people who are drinking them so hey ho ! -
Can Camberwell Grove join East Dulwich?

Er...back in the mists of time.....LostInMusic if you were to ask most Londoners over the age of 60 about Camberwell Grove you may well get the quote that you obviously need. Now go stand in a lift and fart! -
Peckham Rye Childrens Play Area
AllforNun replied to AllforNun's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Did you know that there were peacocks roaming free in the Park Circa something or other, apparently the park dates back to Roman Times. Well I know the play area must go back further..........wait for it......... I think to the Greeks. -
MMM you may yawn but ...."a lot of catering industry experience." to anyone in a council could mean anything "Hey I ran a gastro pub when I finished my uni degree in French Politics" wow great jobs yours ! As for kickin the council they freeking well deserve it, all of them, they do sweet FA until the area becomes a focal point for the right kind of voter demographic. No wonder democrary is banckrupt. These people are playing managerial politics with our enviroment, they are like children let loose in a corporate office, it's just an orgy of self preservation and control......were is the dialogue? Anyway my fingers are firmly crossed that I am wrong.

Peckham Rye Childrens Play Area

Sorry....I mean the place with that JDR is talking about. Isolated is not the word, strictly for the brave ....At least Goose Green was built in the 90's ! -
I stumbled upon this travesty the other day and really could not believe my eyes. I do not have children yet but if I did I think I would be offended if this was all I was offered. Who on Earth is responsible ? How on earth can they/council be thinking of spending any more money on Goose Green ? Are the toddlers of Peckham really that undeserving ?
-
Hey let's hpoe the council have given the contract to some one whos knows something about food. Infact of course they would not have. Apparently they have ?150000 to spend on the old pool area, I was told they had half a meeting about a year ago then....nothing! How on earth people think that this cafe was designed in consultation with park users must be off their heads, maybe they should hope that the neede exchange does land in Crysal Palace road so they can start to withdraw in safety.

Mmmm maybe the point is there should be no discussion and why should there be one? and what is with the risk assesment? The entire area around Center Point in london is basically an unofficial area to deal Heroin. Stand outside the Astoria and actually open your eyes and see what you see. That is the problem really people do not want to see. Having a debate forces people to confront an issue that few are capable of dealing with rationally. Heroin addiction itself is anti social, but most addicts are pretty helpless and generally want to avoid contact with people. Rather like the old saying about spiders "they are more scared of you than you are of them". There are some very sophisticated arguments going on here but I think they only serve to mask people's real fear; being confronted by a broken human spirit. -
Can Camberwell Grove join East Dulwich?
AllforNun replied to Maurice's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Oh you have to laugh...actually there is a big orange sign that denotes the borders of Camberwell and last time I looked it was right near goose green school opposite kwik fit.....so bad luck, now most of you near the station actually live in Camberwell ! Ps in the 60's Camberwell Grove was mentioned in the same sentence as Kings Avenue. -

Oh Enid, would you please stop trying to re-inforce your own identity with comments like "to young" and "hey I have been abroad". I am presuming when you say abroad you mean not the Far East; lots of heroin and prostitution apparently. So I think you went somewhere really clean and safe...mmmm....let me think.......it wasn't Dulwich Village was it? you do know that it is not actually abroad? Anyway I am glad that you can finally see that the main point is obvious; that it's a facility for people, with a heroin addiction, who may actually live in ED. As for your comments about increased crime, and following on your line of thinking or unthinking, are you actually suggestion that we find areas where anti-social behaviour and crime are rife and situate these places there? ....did the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterparteinot party try that in Berlin during the II World War. Yes I think they did, they put all the people that they did not agree with in one area, renamed it the "Ghetto" and, well the rest is history. Anyway apologies for jog on......just blog on....it's all good debate -

EdBird - not sure if you are trying to impress the girls with your wide boy chatter but this is 2007 not the 80's - loads of money has been and gone. Why an earth you are wanging on about a "credible argument about enhancing lives of the majority of ED residents" ? nothing to do with it whatsoever, it's a facility for people, with a heroin addiction, who may actually live in ED. Now jog on back to Clapham. -

Yes BARA you are totally right - Lordship lane is completely different to somewhere like Camberwell who have many needle exchanges. Ok Camberwell is busy and has old people, children and families but they are certainly not in the same categories as the ED residents. Lots of these people need to take lifts up too their flats and the kids are used/trained from an early age to recognise the dangers of a dirty needle. Anyway the ED coucillors are bound to listen to us and get this thing moved, after all we are the voters they are all chasing. It should be stuck in Peckham, they may raise a fuss but it is doubtfull the council will pay any attention. And as there are almost no connecting buses between the two areas we would probably never get a fright and bump into any of these addicaty people anyway. -
Yes this place is just ridiculous. It is almost as if he does not realise what has happened to East Dulwich and who now lives here. He should be swept away with all the other rubbish, it's almost as bad as having a chain of shops in Lordship lane. I know he is an inependent but this is not the kind of independent we want. We should leaflet the area and and put some pressure on the liberal coucillors and get his lease revoked. That General was right when he said the troops do not feel suported at home and as for THIS war monger lets get rid. Anyone would think that this country was built on conflict and the old British Empire, Twaddle. It's people like us with the dinner parties, double buggies and organic wellies who founded this great nation...does anyone else think we should float the idea of some kind of wall around the area, of course we would make it out of briars or a nice bamboo, probably should not use brick to many implications Belrlin, Israel etc.

Fine I accept your unconditional surrender, I had you surrounded and had yet to use my calvary. Meet me in my tent (in the middle of goose green roundabout) and we shall smoke a pipe of peace.

Ok I concede - But how do you turn a primary school like Ivdale around? The building itself looks like it has been neglected by Local/Central government for years, as does Nunhead really.

Well if someones mother has said that it is a bad idea then where do I sign? I am sure it's not a party to deal with an addiction, although putting a needle exchange so near to a nusery is a bit odd. Have you spoken to any of the doctors at the surgery and asked them their opinion ? -
Im with you Nuheadlass - Only some dwelf from ED could tell you that a school that they have absolutely nothing to do with is terrible. th erregance, er arragonce , er smugness ....(sorry went to a rubbish school myself) of these people is stunning. But hey now they have a bright orange neon sign glowing in the middle of lordshiplane - rock on foxtons ! ED for woolworths!

IT CAME THIRD - well don't me just what there own website says. Still a bloody fanatastic achievement, all the food in ED is SHITE excluding the cafe's and minus the Keebab shop, Thai Corner, some of the indians. -
How outragious that any child from ED should have to venture into Peckham. Lets bring back cows to the common and deer and a think layer of mist in the early morning. A peacock or two would not go a miss. why not tarmac the chilrens play area in peckham common, its bleedin useless in it's current state.
