  1. Hey Maurice Camberwell has got no voice because it's got no bleedin money just like Nunhead....East Dulwich has got it all. But hey I am building a Tora Bora in a copse in Nunhead Cemetry come join us....
  2. Great idea, i will PM you an address. But point oh Thorny Rose of Peckham......I have not been angry at anyone ? just saying that the play area is in need of some regenration and that someone should make use of the notice boards on Nunhead Green. I think it is great volunteering time. I have been voluneering plenty in my own way. It is far to simplistic to say "someone who moans about things and does nothing about it" it seems to be a badge people think they can wear if you attend meetings. anyway...standby for a influx of new members ! Down with 'corrosion of character'
  3. We needs some flags then ... your right.....I am of to cause some creative criminal vandalism to the signpost...
  4. Absolutely right. The problem is what voice do the community members actually have? the Nunhead Community Forum is still just a tool for the council to manage things, why do you think the Nunhead Regeneration Area been criminally stagnating for years. The council need to find the money and some of labours big guns need to support some form of lottery / heritage proposal like they did over in the Village. Just a word in the right ears and whatch how quickly things begin to move. But first the pressure need to get ramped up, it's the only thing that the council seems to react to. It is not that would like to see anything imparticular it's just that it is about time more options were on the table for the RYE and more money made availible to be spent. The Rye has suffered form a chronic lack of funding for years. You can not make the kind of changes to the DVP and do barely nothing for the RYE it is simply outragous and sends completely the wrong message to the Children who are growing up in this area
  5. Nunheads for everyone BoB , we welcome all with opens arms, friendly smiles and a crappy 'council blue' Nunhead sign! sorry PeckhamRose just could not resist !
  6. Dear Almurray, Apologies for my comments about the balsamic, I did not intend to imply that you bought stuff in. I know the food is v good lots of people a very positive about. The EDT was the at the head of the wave of changes that have swept through ED over the years so again apologies. keep up the good work Forever yours.... ballsoffun!
  7. Thank you Peckham Rose - I agree some times I go in a bit heavy, but sometimes I think it is needed. I went to those meetings years back and watched on, depressed, as a sudden discovery of Asbestos in the old proposed site for the cafe was discovered. No doubt to the joy of the council. This was around the same time DV park were discussing plans for a small helicopter landing pad ! The meetings are posted up on the notice boards, but never much further. The council kindly..gave Nunhead a crumb of regeneration in the form of 2 nice notice boards around Nunhead Green. I have always wondered why there has never ever been any information posted there regarding , the friends of Peckham Rye Park, The Cafe in Pecham Rye Park, the Park Village fete, the ?150000 towards the new pool area ? and I could go on The fact that under the councils own border deliniation thingy Nunhead is actually, Nunhead & Peckham Rye, makes it all the stranger, I did once have a cousin at school, he had think milkbottle glasses, his trousers were always too short and he smelt of biscuits so we barely spoke...what do you think ?
  8. O'brians !! Christ there goes the neighbourhood
  9. Rewind selector ! not angry at all, how come when I say play area people go "oh you must mean the entire park !" The park as i have stated numerous times is looking great, finally, and well done to all involved. However the play area, is not all that great and is actually far too small in relation to the size of the park, and the local children who could actually use it. You can barely get 25 children in Peckham Rye Park play area and I know plenty of people who feel the same, maybe someone should do a real survey and actually go beyond the parks borders. I think it barely registers on most people's radar. Also ...and this is totally unscientific....but I have recognised so many kids and parents from Peckham/Nunhead and the fringes of ED using the park in the Village.....obviously all taking cars.....maybe it would be better if such a facility was provided in the RYE? I know that the children that I look after are not all that interested in the swings at the Rye. And several years back I was aware of a few nannies who did not like to take the children in their care to that area, due to the fact that there were never many people around and that it felt quite isolated. And Ganapti the point is Money should have gone into the 1'oclock clubs years and years ago - it should not be a case of dividing scraps. Look at the implosion of facilities in Dulwich Park since 99. Peckham Rye more than deserves to be taken seriously by the local council. Years ago I spoke to some (trained) contractors at DV park who were installing new fences,. several several years later in PRP I spoke to a group of guys who were doing some work to the metal fences around the park, turned out that they were all doing community service....mmmm I thought...funny that!
  10. Fantastic, although lets hope the DMC is not visited by the same number in the future, or Maurice will be proved right X
  11. Actually the Nazis were a large, almost country size group of people, who became so entrenched in their beliefs that their way was the right way, and everyone else was of a lesser class it led to .... Of course when the bubble burst, they were left, by dint of history, looking pretty evil. Lets hope one day, standing in Lordship Lane, organic plastic wellies on your feet, British latecinno' in one hand petition in the other you do not hear the sounds of the distance wall that you have built up around yourself come crashing down. Only history and time will tell.
  12. Entrenched you mean new trenches for the drains - surely ?
  13. What area are you talking about? They only cut back the trees around the play area 16 months ago, bloody scary place before that. The equipment must be at least 13 years old 4 swings and metal 2 small climbing frames, christ ! I have jogged round this park for 10 years and until about 2004/5 it was virtualy deserted At least Goose Green did not have a Fire ravaged plastic duck with a sign that said "provided by southwark council" ! this thing sat by the old pool area for 5years ! As for the boarded up slide in ED- the local Liberal Mums probably smashed it themselves to get some more money for the ever fat Goose of the Green (joke)
  14. The o'clock club is shut because it always floods when it rains and has done since the late 90's. The drains are really old and the childrens just unlucky to be born so close. But hey at least Dulwich Park has got electric gates and Goose Green has a ?150000 fence and 7 shit bins in the space of 80 metres !
  15. Well at least that is only two - looks the whole of the Liberal party has moved into ED. Apparently Ming has bought a large flat in a care home of Lordship Lane.......! If you look at the blog of www.Fiona-colley.net - Nunhead Labour Councillor - you will see some very matter of fact/factual posts about the Nunhead Regeneration Zone stretching back several years. Can you actually believe that it has taken the council nearly 4years, yes 4years, to fill some vacant posts so things can just start to get moving. It is so ridiculous it should be looked into at a legal level. Either it is Gross negligence or there is a reason why they are in no rush to get this thing going. I have no real affiliation either way, but when I have watched the primary schools in Nunhead basically almost flat line since 2000, while some ED schools are getting their brickwork jet washed it hurts, when Nunhead streets are used as rat runs and a young boy gets killed in a hit and run, it?s upsetting. When nothing is done regarding either the state of the roads or how to make things a bit safer, you begin to wonder what the council is actually doing. And when a Councillor from ED is put in charge of the Regeneration Zone but has barely spent any substantial time in the area its seems a bit of a smack in the face. I have watched the Libs in action when they walk down the Length of Lordship Lane speaking to Shopkeepers and residents, full of good intention and energy. Why do they not seem willing to apply the same energy in Nunhead Lane? The lane and the Green are so full of potential it's just daft. Maybe they should take a leaf out of the old Labour Leader of Southwark Council's books and buy some houses there. Who cares as long as something starts to inspire them!
  16. Yer like GooseGreen really comes under bellenden road. I was told that local councillors, eager to please bent the rules with regard to the green. Now does anyone see why getting more money to regenerate the play area seems a bit unfair. Especially when areas in real need of some public subsidy get none. The Fabled Nunhead Regeneration Zone has been stalled since 2001 - Totally ridiculous. Now they have a group of Liberal Councillors from ED in charge of the regeneration it will get stalled for even longer. Why? because if it gets under way money may start to flow away from ED and across the Rye into other areas where Maybe the Liberals do not hold mush sway? I have heard that they want to dumb down the regeneration so it's just some roads, a few lights, a signpost. They are putting more effort in trying to get Northcross road turned into the Portabello Road of South London to worry about actually kick starting some real change over Nunhead way
  17. I have had the LFN membership for 3years and have spent many a summers day at Brokwell lido, try the other lido in ..streatham park ....home to the south london swimmers it's much bigger, and with a wetsuit you can swim through winter. http://www.slsc.org.uk/
  18. Boosboss I agree with you 2000%; a meeting of ramblings minds I think! How does someone go about it?
  19. Just incase you have all got emotional and missed the point. The Cafe is great great news and any delay would be no reflection on the leaseholders. No there should not be any form of public consultation about a menu. Menus are organic things and can grow and mature with time so let's not put any more pressure on someone who is starting a new buisness. Sensitivies are not high as far as I am aware, but excitement most definately is. And if any one can get a message to Fiona tell her to do her own advertising and think 360 degress!
  20. It's just that most people in the Medical Fraternity have a duty of care to Human Beings. When you suggest moving it to a busier area is that so they have more opportunities to rob people's handbags? Last time I went out my front door it seemed that London was connected by a series of residential areas, not sure where you live? Is your local pharmacy connected by rolling hills and wheat fields? As for desperate I think that you will find that most addicts in that much pain would put using first before thinking of their health and getting free clean needles. After all we are talking about a facility where injecting drug users can obtain free sterile injecting equipment without too many awkward questions being asked.
  21. Enclave : n : a part of a country entirely surrounded by foreign territory. Shame on you.
  22. Thanks Ganapati, sorry admin. I pressumed all bets were off when Maurice told Chavlawdegree, to "get a law degree, Get a family and get a mortgage" as well as a whole host of other abusive comments about Peckham residents and people with addictions. Some comments like "white middle class enclave" in reference to Bellendon road also potentially lead down an unpleasant avenue. But Ganapati obviously chooses to ingnore these and would rather focus on my, as Maurice put it, " Julie Birchill" comedic Prose, in order to prove her point and keep her prefect badge nice and shiny.
  23. Anyone seen the episode of Seinfeld where they go mad due to the fried chicken sign outside of their apartment !
  24. "Oh, my God! That is so unfair! This is like, well sexual harassment! If you like, fancy me why don't you just say so? God, this is exactly like the time Hidehi, who everyone knows is a total lesbian, made Jane7 stay behind after PE, started telling her off for gobbing on Ganapatii's hair. But everyone knows she only made her stay late because she wanted to get off with her, cuz when she was telling her off her legs were wide open and Jane7 reckons she could see her spider. " V.Pollard Anyway were you for or against the needle doodle dandy ?
  25. let ..me .......try .........to .........speak ........more....... slowly ........for .............you. people live in dwellings, dwellings are set at pretty equal distances, a majority of these people living in these dwellings pay taxes, so the tax intake is spread roughly evenly. The fact that central government has focused plans for areas means that when those long term strategies fail those areas will of course need more money, and like your "investment breeds investment", failure breeds failure. If I remember righly in 1996/7 there was a police vehicle regulary parked out side what is now the EDT, so ED is still pretty green in terms of thriving. Hence the arrival of Foxtons. No doubt the residents of Dulwich Village used to look upon you like you now seem to look on Peckham. I am as left wing as you are intelligent and less intelligent than you are left wing.
