Ahh DulwichMum, Have you considered a good old home grown British Nanny? we can be quite good you know! We don't get homesick, and we can cook good old British grubs and there is no need for broken down English. Plus the kids don't take the mick out of our accents. We do require more than ?70 a week sadly! Only because this country is so bloody expensive and we quite like shopping in white stuff and going to EDT for lunch and a glass of wine! The kids rather enjoy it too! The lunch...not the wine (gulp) -

Which hospital to choose?
Dulwich Born And Bred replied to lorraineliyanage's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My sister had her first baby in Kings College, she got her own room, she was released from hospital the next day and the staff were pretty good regarding the birth, gave her lots of attention. However she was left for ages without food or drink, they didn't even tell her that there was a college machine outside that she could use for free so she was sat in her bed for hours wondering when she was going to get a drink and the bathroom was not clean, my mother actually turned up with cleaning products and cleaned the bathroom so my sister could wash. St Thomas, my sister was neglected there, the staff were rude and not helpful she was supposed to be released within ex amount of time but was kept waiting for no particulary reason for hours and hours until my mother demanded to see the head person and my sister was released. Both had good and bad points, it all depends on the staff, what mood they are in, how busy they are and so forth. My sister would like to go private next time! So no help here!:) -
Dulwich Hi-Fi Station / Car Forecourt
Dulwich Born And Bred replied to captain_paxo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I pass his little forecourt every week on my way to sing and sign and I find it awfully amusing, a little enclosed space! I have never seen anyone enter that shop either, I find it bizarre like that Ravlon Shop and the arcade.... -
St Christopher's Hospice charity shop
Dulwich Born And Bred replied to inez's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My mum gives to both, Mind doesn't seems to take anything to do with kids, like toys. Where St Christopher takes everything but we have yet to see any of our stuff on their shelves! Now my mum just go to Sainsbury's and use their clothes recycling bins. -

For the record I got headlices when I was at school also and we are very clean, ( I am not dumb, I do know nits are not about how clean or dirty you are!) I never had worms but then my mother has always taught me to wash my hands after the going to the ladies, before handling food, to wipe down the toilet flush and so on. BUT a few of my nanny friends have been popping quite a few worming tablets simply because their charges and their employers are not cleaning the loo seats, washing their hands after the loo, or before touching food and work surfaces so naturally it just keeps doing the rounds all the time. There is actually a book about the rise and fall of a Yummy Mummy who actually echoes my sentiments about the rich not feeling they have to be terribly clean and living as if they are poor ( wearing ripped grubby clothes etc) but again, we all based things on our experiences, what we are exposed to and what we see. You and I obviously move in completely different circles despite living in the same area. C'est la vie! -

Ohh for goodness sake! This thread about is about someone on the West Dulwich Site Mocking us on the East Dulwich Site, So I returned the favour by mocking the West Dulwich lot! Hence being Crass! After all us East Dulwich lot are working class people wandering about with buggies and pretending to be so far up our backsides. Also you are not reading my post properly as I never said I didn't check their feet! nor did I say EVERY SINGLE kid there has it! I said the AMOUNT of kids in the village with said ailments is shocking! and it is TRUE! And if THAT makes me a SNOB then I am not going to apologise for that. Regarding kids and teenagers getting these types of ailments is correct, hence why I stated tongue in cheek that they were too 'posh' to do anything about it! Like making their kids wear protective socks, or ensuring they wash their hands after toilets and before handling food. I have been a nanny in quite a few households in the village, and have nanny friends in the village and it is a battle to instil simple things like hand washing when their parents do not enforce it or do it themselves (well they can't if the kids are looking at us blankly and asking 'why'? when we tell them to wash their hands) Nor it is good when a nanny is stating that the kids cannot partake in their swimming lessons because of said kid having a verruca and the parents of said kid/kids states whilst waving their hand in the air " Oh it doesnt matter" yes it does! I remember in my school days we could not ENTER the swimming pool if we had any signs of infections on our feet. Do you live in the Village?? -
My mum gave us a TV in our rooms from a young age, not a good idea really as I remember I used to always turn the TV on and watch rubbish programmes late at night. My niece is only 2 and she has a TV in her room, I don't like it. I think kids should spend more time playing and using their own imagination. I most certainly would not let my kids have a tv in their room until they were of an age like 16. TV is fine in small doses ( I let my little charge watch Cbeebies in the evening after he is washed and it is nearly bed time) but I most certainly would not want him watching TV non stop all the time. TV makes people sluggish I think, you just sit there slumped in front of the TV, it is not good. Also it is hard to monitor what they watch if they have a TV in their room. I remember my friends at school whispering about rude programmes that used to come on Channel Four many years ago at school! I wonder if kids do that now?? is Eurotrash still on??

Nope It is not only in the Village but there is a hell of a lot of it going on in the village! If I was a snob I would be saying that the East Dulwich Lot were germy and riddled with everything since after all the West Dulwich lot is meant to be the 'Posh' side! And regarding the sock wearing...yep I have actually! How? because quite a few of my nanny friends have kids going to those schools and they do not get checked for verrucas. My brother and his friend joined the College gym also, and my brother does the weights, his friend does swimming, and guess what? his friend picked up a verrucas! No lie! So please, unless you work in my capacity or you know my circle of friends, and where we work and what we do, I suggest you dont make suggestions about what I know and what I see. -

The West Dulwich lot are so posh they don't need to clean up after themselves. Worms, Verrucas, Headlice and the rest are the norm in the Village. I avoid Jags and Dulwich college Swimming pool at all costs, the amount of kids that go swimming with verrucas and not wearing a protective sock is shocking, they have no regards for other people. Also washing your hands after using the loo is not a done thing in the Village hence the constant worm problem. How do I know? Ahhh us nannies know a lot of things you know;-) And don't even get me started on how two faced most of them there are...that goes for the mums AND the nannies! -
Britney Spears in East Dulwich? (Lounged)

Things about me: I came on a TV show as a kid. My great uncle was a rather well known actor. I won a competition for my art and poetry and met Nery Hughes or whatever her name is from the Liver Bird. I was asked to be a catalogue model when I was a wee bonny lass but my mother said no. I am so mixed, I am the perfect advert for united nations! (Dutch, Greek, English and Caribbean!) One of my ancestor played a huge part in the dutch resistance and even has a book penned about him. Ahhh lots more but that shall do!

No, I didnt think you were getting at me, I just cannot believe all the bad luck I am having this week, correction...year!! I honestly cannot wait to see the end of 2007! The meat was delivered to us personally ( we werent around so we didnt take the order so didnt check it). I am sure in the new year my mum will be having words with them because she does get on really well with them, that is why we are so upset and shocked that they completely and utterly stuffed up our order! I shall be at the vodka, wine and gin tomorrow!:)-D then I will do it all over again for my depressing impending milestone age! I am 30 on saturday! sob! Well, Merry Christmas to us all! Lets hope we all have a good one eh?? Heidi x

Sean, Usually I would pursue it and I SHOULD, because we paid ?110 for things we didnt ask for and we didnt get! But it is Christmas, we are all highly stressed because everything has been going wrong ( Sofas were meant to come, but now arent coming until Jan, so we had to borrow a sofa for xmas day! Ordered a playstation, that went wrong a week after we got it, lots of hassle getting a new one ( we had to pay more money too!) the lamp from BHS was broken on arrival, lots of hassle returning that and getting a new one, I ordered my mum a ring from Ernest Jones, went three time to Croydon because they all kept getting it wrong and blaming each other for the communication problems between them all, Tesco also gave us SPAGHETTI sauce as a subsitution for BREAD sauce?? WTF???!! plus they arrived late and didnt have half the stuff we wanted. So right now, we just do not care anymore, we have been messed around and ripped off, and quite frankly we just want to enjoy christmas, get merry and go away next christmas! never again!
-
Sean, I wrote the list, and my mum gave them a list, and they copied it onto their own list, so they do not have what we originally wrote. We asked for gammon, we got bacon. We asked for a beef joint, we got shoulders, We asked for a chicken, we didnt get a chicken at all. We asked for other things, but basically the whole order was completely wrong, and their handwriting is so squashed up and unreadable we have no idea what they put! I went to waitrose and got the chicken, mum is just going to make do with the meats we do have, but we have declared never ever to do that again, we were one of their first customers, we get meat delivered every single week, so we had high hopes, but naturally, they let us down when we needed them to get it right the one important time of the year!
-
William Rose was terrible! They completely and utterly got our orders all wrong!!! We tried phoning them to tell them they obviously took on more than they could handle hence the wrong order but for ?110 we wanted what we paid for but we could not get through on the phone and no way were we going to queue, so I ended up nipping to Waitrose at the crack of dawn this morning to get my organic meat! Never again!
-
Merry Christmas to yourself also, hope you have a good one! xx

Funny, I was there last night too and thought the service was slow. The food was excellent, but given that the prices are on a par with Chez Bruce (steak, chips and greens for ?25 + service is pretty expensive in my book), I will probably be going back there again in the future instead. Nice local bistro type atmos, way overpriced.

Dulwich Born And Bred replied to monica's topic in The Lounge
37 hours which is under 8 hours per day is not long. When I worked in retail, I worked longer than that, when I worked with the Government I worked longer. I have no problems with people tipping, but dont say they are hard done by when they are not, they are the same as most of the people in the country, doing a job on a working class wages. My mum said years ago yes they did used to tip, because the bin men were paid very low wages then, plus they actually did their job properly, and they had to carry big metal bins on their shoulders and tip it into the cart also. These days we wheel it out, and a machine empties it into the cart for them. The job is just smelly that is all , but then travelling with people on the bus is just as smelly! -

My sister as a nurse got ?18k a year (before tax), she left and went to Oz where she got more money. Retail get around ?11-12k also, BEFORE tax. You will find a lot of jobs pay around 11-17k Before tax. My brother got much more than that when he was doing refuse and that was years ago. -
