As most roads already have cars parked within 10m of the corner, some have just being painted up to the nearest car. Don't know whether they'll come back to finish them off, but some just stop and are missing the vertical line where they end (which I think makes them unenforceable).
  2. Why is parking close to a train station, a school or a hospital unacceptable exactly? Where is it OK to drive to?

  6. Unfortunately the roads are pretty lawless - police having been replaced with speed bumps.
  7. We don't need permalight everywhere. The sun rises and falls, get used to it. The existing lights are perfectly adequate. Does anyone really think that a brighter bulb is the answer to crime?

  9. I assumed 'late night gardening' was some sort of euphemism / code. Turns out it's just late night gardening. Very disappointing.

Yeah, my anecdotal evidence is that I have already nearly been taken out by someone coasting round the corner at a narrow angle, without stopping. Like I say, I think it's going to make things more dangerous personally.

I don't know, I think it forces cars to approach junctions very carefully and to come to a stop before pulling out with care. With clear sight lines, often they won't stop and will be looking down the road for oncoming traffic, rather than at pedestrians who might be crossing. I suspect this may prove to be an example of the unintended consequences of well intentioned interventions.

I really think it would make a big difference, especially in South London where our services play second fiddle to commuter belt, season ticket holders interests.
  14. If you want to reduce the number of car journeys within London, put suburban rail services under the control of TFL. The Conservatives were all in favour of just this until a Labour Mayor was elected https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/dec/07/chris-grayling-accused-of-putting-politics-over-people-in-rail-letter-leak . It will do more to ensure that service improvements happen and that the network is run in the interests of Londoners and encourage more people out of their cars than just upping the cost of driving, without any good alternatives.
  15. Same all over ED, ridiculously long lines appearing. Speeds will Invariably go up. I?ve already got close to being taken out by a car careering round the corner at speed. What a dumb and dangerous use of our taxes .
  16. I would never buy anything on the doorstep, nor make decisions about which charities I want to donate to. It's a weird way to make a decision, based on someone coming to your doorstep.
  17. I would 'guestimate' that prices have dropped around 10% on this time last year. Houses of the type that were going for around a milllion a year ago, appear to be selling at more like 900K now. Not based on any in depth research of course, but that's what it looks like to me.

I completely agree. If we want people out of their cars, they have to be given alternatives. Otherwise behaviour doesn't change, people's costs just go up. Double the number of trains running through East Dulwich and make reduce the number of delays and you'd see a huge drop in car ownership.

I've been able to offset some of the health benefits against increased alcohol consumption (I now drink twice as much).

I haven't had the food and tbh, I'm unlikely to go to the dog to eat - but for a quick drink on the way from / to the park I think it's great. Decent selection of beers - I have found the bar staff friendly and efficient.

The problem was a flawed design and bad management. It would have been incredibly easy to have built a bigger exit / entrance and to have had an additional exit / entrance point on Windsor Walk. Both these things were called for at the time. The project saw major over runs and a 2m + overspend. Now we're told there's no more money to fix it. With proper management, and thoughtful design, we wouldn't be seeing these issues.
