  1. So don't drive if pollution concerns you. The hypocrisy of many who give pollution as an issue to justify their argument, but are still happy to contribute through how, what, where, when and if they drive is something else. I'm on a train if anyone id interested.
  2. Hmm, you seem to have an agenda. I like ait of measured that they have done to promote active travel, improving pedestrian and cyclist safety, whilst improving the streetscape. I avoid making sweeping statements about wildlife management as I don't know enough about their policies, and expect some in Southwark are passionate about what they do. Go along to a relevant local meeting and ask, I doubt if you will change a thing by posting here.
  3. They were consultations not referendums. Our political system does not work by going out to the vote on everything. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Representative_democracy Here's a link to referendums, fairly rare on a local level across the whole of the UK. The Edinburgh one on a congestion charge shows that most will vote on self interest rather than the wider picture. Turkeys would similarly not vote for Xmas as they are not thinking about the wider joy that it would bring. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Referendums_in_the_United_Kingdom
  4. I assume you are posting in jest. It's legal and there is no case through the courts to get rid of it. It's also been five years so perhaps time to move onto other battles. Should that is how you spend your time.
  5. Yes, you've hit the nail on the head, point six is very appropriate, time to move on (half a decade).
  6. Silly post. Like voting for more tax, most are likely to oppose. Fortunately we don't do business through referendums, shame we didn't think about this in 2015/16 No party went to the last GE with increasing tax in their manifesto. Up until the last few years tax burden has progressively reduced. Lib Dems from time to time to improve public services but they haven't been in power for over a century (the former Liberal Party). One party doing the well in the polls are campaigning for significant tax reductions
  7. Let's have a referendum on whether we pay tax. Tick yes or no. The result would be a no. It's daft thinking that a consultation is a referendum, and that in a consultation people will consider the big picture. Most won't. They just look at self interest. As my example on paying tax above. I really hope that in 5 years people are not still complaining about the Dulwich LTN. Why should people need to be persuaded on the benefits of active travel? It's a no brainer. Back to self interest Vs bigger picture. But even then, surely, it is in your own self interest to have a healthier lifestyle. But then our 'dependency' on the motor vehicle trumps rationale thought.
  8. @Rockets surely every reasonable person supports more exercise for the masses. Getting out and walking and/or cycling has to have benefits, even if you have already joined a gym, play regular sport etc. I don't know why you continue this us Vs them narrative.
  9. Didn't really get the point of the article. I thought he'd be keen on less cars parked on our streets as many, particularly in urban areas, will see see the benefit of summoning a driverless vehicle, ultimately an autonomous pod, to take them to their destination, including transport hubs.
  10. My first action would be of course to go onto social media. Or maybe not 😉
  11. Have been using it this week, had just clocked what you said. Bizarre!
  12. AI is already improving diagnostics. Dunno about robots 😊
  13. Great tyre place. But no your tyre is fxd
  14. Would be XX rated if it was Rumours, but no doubt one hell of a party
  15. They have been on the horizon, not 'next year', and have to go through both the development ana approval process. The one person who has used them on this this thread, rates them. So I respect their views not what I heard from Bill down the pub So when your life is saved by a surgeon with the help of AI are you going to think the same? Seem to be a lot of luddites on this forum
  16. Totally unnecessary post. As per my earlier post what is this directly got to do with local authorities?
  17. Hopefully the Canada Geese were being culled - I'm being serious. It's permitted
  18. Rather daft comment. As said we have been getting rid of jobs ever since the horse was domesticated. What on earth has this all got to do with the local authority? I's called rightly or wrongly progress.
  19. Grin and bear it. Don't wish your life away....
  20. Pizza place/bar near the station in Peckham. No doubt other places too. I've not been in McDonalds since the 90s and probably less than five times in my life, KFC even longer ago. As a kid we went to old school Wimpys where you were served at the table, there are a few left eg Bermondsey (the takeaway part was sold to BK in the 90s leaving a small rump of old school Wimpy cafes.
  21. Neighbourhood police, they often get called in for neighbourhood 'disputes', although if you have been Southwark ASBU perhaps you have already explored this
  22. Yes I would use one Technology has taken jobs ever since we domesticated the horse. We are about to go through one hell of a step change due to AI. Do you still expect there to be a petrol pump attendant, lift attendant, and cashier? Although I detest restaurants where someone doesn't take your order 😭 Of course the benefit will be that low skilled and low paid jobs will go, with hope that there will be more high skilled and high paid jobs. There is always a shortage of truckers so some alternative careers in driving.
  23. Oh dear, selective reporting..... From Lambeth's website: The Streatham Wells LTN was suspended on Thursday 7 March at 1pm. The suspension was announced as a result of concerns about public transport delays and the anticipated impact on the A23 due to construction work. Transport for London (TfL) will begin a £9 million project on the A23 to substantially upgrade the experience for walking and cycling, starting at the end of spring and continuing into 2025. These improvement works will necessarily require some reduced road capacity while this major investment takes place. Alongside this investment, we are working with TfL to implement a comprehensive package of bus priority measures along the length of the A23 to separate buses from general traffic and help prevent bus delays in future. Sorry to disappoint you, there was no order for it to be scrapped.
  24. Slatters aka the Cake store in Sydenham, an institution https://sydenhamsociety.com/2013/09/a-history-of-the-cake-shop/ https://thecakestore.co.uk/ ken can be found at 31 minutes on the Generation Game which he appeared on numerous times Hmm link did not attach, I'll try again later
