  1. Nibble it, spud and artichoke are pretty obvious tastes, if it is sweet it could be a mangleworzle. Not sure of spelling. Added a link. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worzel_Gummidge
  2. I've featured in it three times, nothing to do with issues on this site. But..... I don't think I've ever bought it nor do I know anyone who bought it. We had a weekly local rag at home when I was growing up that many bought. Put under years ago by the advertising freebie, not sure if that is still going
  3. They've been living with noise from humans ever since we've been doing things in an industrial basis. And lost habitat ever since slash and burn. Any links? I used mesh around my feeders to get rid of my starlings who were unwelcome visitors to the garden devouring food for the small garden birds. Interestingly their numbers have plummeted across the country, nothing to do with festivals. Not sure how important starlings are in local ecosystems. Only see them in numbers in large car parks. Labour will be ditching habitat protections on their build for growth programme so Gala will pale into insignificance.
  4. They can commute. Just have to pay for their parking. Although at that time of the morning there may be some free parking. Most of central London has controlled parking, and the world hasn't stopped turning. Let's have hands up. Who starts work at 6am? Not me and I am sure not many of us. Occasionally I am on a bus at 6 and stunned how busy it is. Cleaners busing into central London to do the offices. None obviously driving in. Anyway this I'm not campaigning for a CPZ on Melbourne Grove but it amazes me how many are jumping in to defend the right to street park free of charge all of the working day.
  5. Going round in circles here. Revenue has already been discussed and infinitum https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/355914-just-what-does-southwark-spend-cpz-and-pcn-money-on/
  6. Don't live miles away. Used Melbourne as an occasional rat run back in the day. Thought 'fair enough' when they blocked it. Ah yes, someone provided the link and I'm sure people were complaining that there was a problem. So thought I'd check it out. As my response included that I didn't reside on this or adjacent streets it would be rightly ignored. Bit cheeky I know. Those driving to the station to park as part of their commute should pay. What is the objection to that?
  7. Thought you were going to say a second world war bomb, old air rade shelter (we had remnants) or an indigenous American burial ground Looks like a spud.
  8. I'm unhappy with major building works going on during nesting season but I expect that this is immaterial to allowance of most human activities going on that cause a lot of noise. I did some research but didn't find out a great deal so expect birds have evolved to live around human disruption. Messing with the nest will cause birds to abandon it. Not sure how much the Gala causes. Should welcome signage even if you consider that is a token effort.
  9. Sad that I am interested in this apparent excessive signage, sad that it may exist (I'd like the evidence) or sad that it may be a distraction to motorists? Or all three?
  10. So Marcus is in support and lives there. Most of the rest of us don't live in the vicinity. But apparently some of us know better. We all pay taxes. The rich more. Drinkers and smokers a little more. Motorists a little more. We could change the system, move to an insurance based health system, private/toll roads, cut other public services. But I expect most are loosely happy with the ways of raising revenue. Me? I'm disappointed that Starmer wimped out of removing the temporary reduction to fuel duty, and supported Blair's government's inflation plus policy. With money going into public transport. But, hey, I am for the broader good rather than self interest. Although surely it is all our interests to have less congestion, less pollution, less carbon emissions even if we have to pay a little more and may be a little inconvenienced. For those new to the forum we've been having repetitive conversations for years. Big picture stuff. I'm not getting involved directly with Melbourne Grove beyond using it to cycle to TJ surgery.
  11. Love to see some photos of the 27 signs. Which roads I will have to check them out
  12. There's a lot of nonsense bout the law and motoring restrictions. Local authorities have statutory powers introduce restrictions through Traffic Regulation Orders. This link provided a good explanation. https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/tros/what-is-a-traffic-regulation-order-tro/ There is a statutory consultation. This is not a referendum. I don't park in Melbourne Grove, certainly not in the last ten years so this doesn't affect me. I expect that this similarly doesn't affects some who post on this thread. Obviously excludes Marcus based on the address
  13. I once had some very grumpy buyers, I'd moved heaven and earth and compromised a little on price, was tempted just to tell them where to go and put it back on the market - I wanted to get rid but could hang on longer. I bit my lip, and they sent me a very stroppy email which I deleted without reading. Ideally we'd get on with our buyers and sellers, always try to meet them, and you can often sort out issues directly. Estate agents tend to not like you have the other parties details. I've generally had more problems with the ones I've not met. It can be stressful for both sides. You often get an inkling whey you know that they may be awkward, and that includes going the other way with a last second increase in price when markets are moving upwards. Again, bad karma!
  14. I disagree. Drivers are so distracted looking for signage eg LTNs, school streets, that they will probably collide with the widened pavement, the car will flip and burst into flames like a Hollywood blockbuster. Or maybe not.
  15. Footfall is the term used for the number of people entering a shop or shopping area in a given time. I think that it is a common term in the retail trade. Accessibility is the ability for a person to access a facility, in this case shop/s Station is part of the train network, where trains stop and passengers get on and off. Many people use trains for leisure, shopping and commuting, so if a shop is near the station they are in a good position for this passing trade.
  16. Glasto and Glasters Gets my goat. Maybe gets my goat too.
  17. Glasto? Who calls it Glasto? You certainly aren't an old hippy. It's been coined by radio DJs and toffs - Glyndo anyone? Henlo?? Hollando??? Yes this is an irrelevant post.
  18. Yep Monday is family festival but I think it would be churlish to avoid this on principle and if you are free at least check it out. I was simply responding to a comment that there were not free festivals. I've no strong feelings about Gala, and whilst I could hear it, it stopped around 11 and I've experienced worse. Volunteering at Glastonbury and at Shambala and that bloody drum and base going on till 4 in the morning. I'm aware Gala affects others far more but conflating this with LTNs and with Lambeth council was strange.
  19. We can all be cynical but I hope you or others will pop over to the free festival and share your views. I'd go but I am away. It looks great. (Note I don't know why some had to post their disgust on the events page - I expect many locals will go to the free event and some to the Gala itself).
  20. I think you have posted on the wrong thread. Otherwise I haven't a scooby why you have posted the above. Can you not consider a helpful response rather than politicising a simple request?
  21. It's free, go along, you may enjoy yourself
  22. Ditto, perhaps restrict your distaste to other threads.
  23. And the 185 is electric too, so much nicer than the diesel buses in particular that poorly designed Boris bus (176)
