Ah but they do - Janet Kay as well on Monday, but sadly I am away. Surely nobody can complain about some Lovers Rock. Surely.....
-
They were endangered and there has been an enormous recovery. First time you see one, out comes the camera. Then you see dozens. They are over Reading but not seen them in the capital https://www.rspb.org.uk/whats-happening/news/membership-thank-you-week-red-kites

Catford Bridge is your main pinch point from my experience. They created a gyratory many years ago, which whilst people complain about it, actually improved things a little. There are massive plans to redevelop around the Town Hall, which would helpfully make this smoother. If you go back in a time machine there were plans decades ago to tunnel under Forest Hill to bring the South Circ further out East to miss that bit of congestion. It depends on exactly what time you travel, before about 7.40 traffic flows OK but then the school run kicks in. That will of course also be St Dunstans parents. But good on you for not planning to add to this. However,,,, if traffic backs up from the Bridge, it will probably be worth getting off early walking a bus stop or two, When your child is older and confident cycling is an option. There is a route through Peckham Rye which is flatter and much quieter than the South Circ, coming out near Catford Bridge If you are close to East Dulwich Station there is a half hourly service changing at Peckham Rye that takes only around 20 mins to the school from ED Station. You can get congestion at any time due to taking lanes out, accidents, major road closures elsewhere. This happens a few times a year, rarely bad enough that the South Circ gridlocks.

I started this thread with the intention of informing others about what was happening in Peckham having witnessed gridlock one morning. However I immediately get someone trolling me, then followed by some of the usual suspects whinging on about being trapped in the area by roadworks. I don't wake up in the morning complaining. I could be far less polite. We live in London for heavens sake. There have been changes to road access for decades. Reduced speed limits. More pedestrian crossings. There has been congestion during peak time ever since I visited London as a child. There have always been road works, whether or not they are getting worse due to crumbling infrastructure and the privatisation of the utilities and their networks I don't know. Meanwhile we have excellent and affordable public transport and some quieter routes to encourage walking and transport. Plenty to be positive about. The roadworks nearer this end of the Rye are all but complete, but moved to outside Harris Boys. Assume they are replacing cables or pipework.

It's a case of who blinks first. But purchasers who do this will lose all good will form the owner and will probably suffer life changing accident as the Gods won't be smiling on them.
-
Oh dear. I'd go a little earlier when the roads are quieter. Take a good book and make the most of your extra me time. Perhaps some relaxing music too. My journey was fine past the roadworks today.
-
Perhaps post on the events page. That would jozz things up. 😃
-
Why don't you start a new thread about Brockwell Park? I promise that I won't post on it 👍
-
That's usually associated with primary schools or private schools. The hard kids at Harris East Dulwich don't need their mummies and daddies driving them to school
-
On what basis are you saying this? I have no knowledge. It would be useful to hear views positive and negative of this academic's views
-
So I good I said it twice Pretty quiet at school leaving time today so good for kids. Surely most secondary students are walking distance anyway. Many who use the bus only go a few stops. Basing that on what I see outside Harris Boys ED when I cycle past in the morning.

Reminds me of Pulp Fiction. Not sure where you go for that sort of action. I'll dust off my outfit for you EDF meet up Sue

This thread now has little relevance. It had moved from West to East Dulwich, over a decision made years ago. I posted in the past about when I became very worked up by planning decisions. Two things I learned (a) pick your battles. The likelihood of the East Dulwich LTN being scrapped is highly unlikely. Certainly without a Tory/Reform type national and/or local government. And (b) don't fight other people's battles. A copper told me that after things got quite toxic on social media. That was over 15 years ago and I am better for it. It had been all consuming. I still campaign and do more practical things but that is a separate matter. I'll try not to post again in the subject; yes I've said that before. 😮 -
Pleased to report that congestion wasn't too bad today so last Friday was a blip, no doubt as there had been another issue that led to grid lock. It may take you ten mins or more longer. I don't drive very much so only speaking from the observations of a cyclist who had used this route for many years. As a child I hated having exams during hay fever season and the long days when you'd wake at 6. But like ageing infrastructure you can't pin these in the local authority. Nope that concern predates the Jerk festival. But I am talking about when I first moved to SE London and some locals complained that the nice music was too loud. Separately some people are still moaning about the Jerk festival, Felt some comments were (casual) racist, but that is a different subject matter. That day was great, A victim of its own success. Akin to Fatboy Slim playing a free festival on Brighton beach, quarter if a million went but it took a long long time to clean up. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Beach_Boutique_II

Because I use buses...... Shall I clarify. Bus journeys.
-
The Beeb gave Farage and the like too much air time during the run up to the vote but we all know that. Johnson swung it I expect.
-
They had Farage commenting at the weekend on a radio news bulletin. Nice balance Beeb... However the left think the BBC is too right wing, whilst the right thinks it is some, so the corporation cannot win.
-
Sorry but are fondues allowed under the Brexit treaty? Perhaps this was discussed in the latest talks, didn't see any mention on the Beeb though. Thinking aloud are we all not being unpatriotic? I expect ex PM Truss would be nonplussed.
-
Probably best to share with the police.

Yes do merge. There were three separate works today as some new unrelated digging closer to East Dulwich. It will be worse than the pedestrian crossing at the Harvester. Which got some people's goat. Best to avoid if you have to drive. I'll have another go by bike in the morning, Google took me on an odd route through a council estate today. My biggest issue is buses but if push comes to shove I'll walk to Rye Lane and plenty of alternatives to the 63 for getting further into town.

As far as I am aware you have shown no interest in the Gala thread but anything you find to knock a local authority, and no doubt hope that it applies to Southwark LTNs, then off you go. I'd love to hear what you enjoy. I've been to multiple festivals big and small, in life. The line up at the Lambeth Show looks good. Steamdown anyone? It's a balance between many factors, amenity Vs loss of amenity, disruption including noise during the event, damage to the park, income to the local authority during difficult times. What is your view on these matters, or is it just a case that you smell meat? I cycled in the Massif Central when there was a big creative festival and that smelled of BBQ meat. Similarly a Portuguese festival at Kensington Park. There are some people round my way who used to complain about the music at the Horniman on a summer Sunday afternoon. This is not comparable to the disruption due to the Gala, I hasten to add. But I was stunned at the time thinking how could they have issues with some soul/jazz/afro beat/samba/Latino etc Shane they don't have the same number of free events any more. I digress....
-
Thread is on the Gala. Some of you can't help but join in on everywhere else because it suits you. Sad that some of you get such joy. And one of you is using large font, it's akin to shouting.

It's lovely. Got a lot of time for the area, lived there and there abouts in the past. The car reduction policies in the 80s were wonderful. keep it up. The stuff on buses is the usual tosh. There are plenty of buses to Cowley. I used them all the time as a youngster when going into town for beers. Sadly those outside of central Oxford have an aversion to them because they are seen as poor people's transport. Back to the apologists for motorists, oh we would use public transport but...... And some absolutely wonderful cycle routes. The park and ride is another wonder to behold.
